The home itself is a living museum; offering guests an authentic taste of Old New England and Salem town. So let me start my review with WE DID NOT STAY. So I can not speak on the home itself. A friend and I came from NY to MA (no current travel restrictions) to do some traveling. We booked in advance and spent a few days before in Boston so I wasn’t paying much attention to my email. Well that came back to bite me! To stay at the Daniel’s bed and breakfast we need Covid vaccines or proof of a negative Covid test. I had been in early communication in regards to our info (I figured for tracing purposes for the state of MA). But it was over a week before we were contacted in regards to the Covid documentation. No phone call also. When we showed up, we were unfortunately not allowed to stay. I am in customer service so I didn’t get upset, rules are rules but due to it being a small facility, they lost out on our room and therefor we were not given a refund. That info is on their website, your deposit is the equivalent of one night and they will not refund the deposit once the reservation is made. It wasn’t until I got home and really reflected that I got annoyed. Again, a Covid outbreak would shut them down, but their guests are there to site see obviously. No one in the rest of the state has the same requirements. No restaurants we went to, no museums we went to, no where within walking distance. So even with proof of a negative Covid test, I could very well catch it and being those germs back to the bed and breakfast while out on the town site seeing since the rest of Salem doesn’t follow the same requirements. We stayed at Hampton Inn which lacked some history but was very nice. No Covid test needed. I want to emphasize that a lot of this could have been avoided by me being more diligent with my emails but I was on vacation. And even if I had caught it the week before, I would have been out the $200 regardless due to their policy. So if you plan to stay here, I would call ahead of time and find out what requirements need to be met prior to booking because you will not be given a refund, a voucher, a coupon, nothing but an apology and friendly wave as you drive away $200 in the hole with nowhere to stay.

The house was amazing. Authentic throughout with a long history. Patrick, the co-owner did an amazing job of restoring it to it’s original period representation. The hospitality that Patrick showed us was amazing as well. We stayed in The Great Room and have nothing but good things to say about the room and the host. Quick and easy check-in, Patrick was very accommodating to our requests, and while this was during the pandemic, where some items were not normally available, Patrick made sure to make sure everything was taken care of, from arranging alternative breakfast options at the local Red’s Sandwich Shop, to even offering to give us a quick private tour of the historically restored dining room and kitchen, along with some great background on the house itself. If you’re looking for a true, authentic experience in one of the oldest B&B’s in the country then I strongly recommend staying here. Also- I would disregard any reviews posted before Jan 2020 as those are based on the previous owner and absolutely do not reflect on Patrick and Adele and current experiences. We will most definitely be returning upon our next visit to Salem.

We visited the Daniels House Bed and Breakfast in October, on our trip to visit historic Salem. Patrick was a wonderful host, making sure that we had everything we need to have a great stay. The decor in our room felt historic, and we were fortunate enough to get a tour of the kitchen (with 17th century features!!) Highly recommend to anyone looking for a lovely stay walking distance to everything Salem has to offer.

We stayed one night in the Marion room at The Daniels House during a short weekend visit to Boston and Salem. This house is beautiful! Patrick and Adele do a great job of preparing the rooms, having LOTS of amenities for such a historic house, and being great hosts. We were able to walk everywhere: from house of seven gables, to the wharf and downtown Salem from the Bed and Breakfast. Everything was within a 10 minute walk or less. Obviously due to covid we were unable to enjoy the breakfast part of the stay in the home, but they have a wonderful accommodation at a place called Red’s sandwich shop that has excellent food and portions! I would highly recommend staying here if you want authentic 1667 charm with updated amenities.
