I was very underwhelmed with my visit here. Maybe my expectations were higher. This has nothing to do with the staff at all. Everyone I encountered was very nice. The room was a king sized room and didn't feel like it. It was a King Sized bed stuffed into a small room. Again a personal preference but the bed was too soft as were the pillows. Everything was very clean. I think it's an old hotel that maybe 40 years ago was luxurious. On a side note (this had nothing to do with my rating) the whole town of Salem are mask freaks. They want you to wear a mask walking around outside. Keep that in mind before deciding to go there. I am not of the belief of masks outside so I had some strange looks coming my way.
Loved the bar at Hawthorne hotel. Very original and solid drinks. It hasn’t been renovated like so many big cities. The lobby and bar ooooozes charm. Saw a few ladies having a few drinks and tea. Families eating lunch. Just a warm cozy feel without any pretension that is do common nowadays.
Spent a week here recently due to a death in the family. A very comfortable stay. The hotel holds all the charms of a historic building. Had a spacious room overlooking the Salem Common. Outstanding staff. Always eager to please. Made to feel at home. From Captain Clair to the front desk clerks to housekeeping everyone seemed focused on pleasing their guests. I took several meals in the restaurant and tavern, some alone and one with a large group. The food was excellent and the service even better. Allison was especially attentive and responsive.
What an absolutely AMAZING place to stay! Right in the center of everything “witchy”! I refuse to stay anywhere else going forward! The food in the Tavern was amazing, the staff unbelievably friendly and helpful. There aren’t enough words in the dictionary to say how UNBELIEVABLE my stay was. I can’t wait to go back! Yes Covid precautions were taken very seriously and even with masks you could still see the staff smiling! Beyond my expectations, way beyond! Thank you to the staff for going above and beyond! Patricia at the front desk HUGE shout out to you!
Five of us traveled from Georgia for my mother's funeral. I had called days earlier to reserve three rooms. Upon check-in the first thing Tyler said was "Sorry about your mother." How kind that he remembered. The rooms are small but comfortable and very quiet. Beds are awesome, we all slept great. The hotel lobby is beautiful with many widely seperated areas to sit with family/friends or enjoy a drink. The entire staff was A+. They provided great advice for restaurants. Bottled water was always available, free sodas at the bar and free coffee every morning. My son asked where could he buy aspirin. Tyler opened up a cabinet and gave him a little packet of two. It is these extras that really make a difference in the stay at a hotel. Our only complaint: We ate at The Tavern one night. We arrived close to closing (8:15), which is never a good idea, but we had a long day and didn't want to venture out. We were told most everything had already been put away. The meal was not very good. Tomato soup tasted like spaghetti sauce and Gourmet Grilled Cheese was dry and didn't have much flavor.…
