I was so surprised at how cute this place was. They've done a great job of creating a fun and inviting vibe at this roadside motel. It's an adorable mid century revival with colorful accents that highlight the desert chic design. The staff was very friendly and greeted us with two casino chips which could each be redeemed for wine or beer. We chose wine and were delighted to enjoy a gorgeous Arizona red blend. It was delicious and hit the spot after a long day of driving.

Pets - Very dog friendly. There's a refundable pet deposit upon check in, and then the dogs can have the run of the place. There's a nice dog area out front with pebble and a small turn second for them to relieve themselves. They also provide poop bags which is nice touch in case you've forgotten yours.

Room service - room service is avail! They are very covid safe, so no worries there.

The Room - Super cute hipster vibe. Great big TV on the wall, and a cute red retro refrigerator in the corner. There was also a desk with a chair a nice sized sink/changing area connected to a small bathroom. The shower had shampoo, conditioner, and body soap on the wall which was a great touch. There's a harsh exposed light bulb in there which wouldn't have been my choice. I'd recommend them getting the ones that are dipped in silver or gold to defuse the harsh light.

The only thing that could use work is the bed. Our's (room 314) was very squeaky and loud, which resulted in my husband and I waking each other up every time we turned over. Needless to say, we didn't have a great night's sleep, which is of course always the goal. For as adorable and friendly as this place is, sleep should always be prioritized. That's the only reason I'm giving this a 4 star review and not a 5 star review. I hope that's an easy fix. If so, I'd absolutely come back any time I'm passing through town!

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review! We're glad to see you enjoyed your stay for the most part and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. The feedback on the beds is super helpful as we definitely want all of our guests to get a great night's sleep. We're sorry to hear you didn't got anything less than that. We'll be sure to have our facilities manager take a peek and see if there's a way we can fix that squeak for future guests. Cheers and be well!

Looking for a one night stay in Tucson only a few days in advance, came across this interesting alternative to the chain hotels. Has a great vibe, tons of cool murals, a pool and fire pit area (no time to use), so clean, and a variety of room types. Dog friendly. Excellent rates. Fun website with lots of pics and area info. Friendly staff.

It’s single story so no worries about noisy upper neighbors. You can park right in front of your room. They deliver breakfast in the morning and you get a token for a beer or house wine on arrival (21+). Seem very COVID prepared with lots of safety measures in place and apparently rooms are left empty for 24 hrs between guests.

Surprisingly quiet considering it’s right beside the elevated 10 interstate. Unfortunately we could easily hear our very loud late arrival next door neighbors - both while they were outside unloading and from inside their room.

Room was nicely redone, super clean, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/hand soap all provided in large pump bottles to save on plastic waste. King bed was really comfortable. We had a little kitchenette which was nice.

Check it out if you’re up for something different.

Should you ever find your way back to Tucson, we hope you think of us. Fingers crossed you'll have more time to enjoy the heated salt water pool and cozy up by the fire pit. Please know you can always feel free to reach out to us at the desk if there's a neighboring guest who may not realize how loud they're being and/or if you'd like to borrow one of white noise machines. We are always happy to help ensure everyone has an opportunity at getting a great night's sleep. Cheers and we hope to host you again in the future!

Check-in was easy and efficient. I called earlier to ask for a "quiet" room. They gave us a room furthest from highway traffic noise....thanks!

And, yes, it's a small room (2 queen), without a closet. The bed was very comfortable. There is a shortage of counter space, but I thought we were very creative and used the desk, a small table in the sink area, and the top of the refrigerator to hold our luggage. The room, though, is VERY short on lights/lighting......one light over the desk at the far end of the room and one light at the opposite corner of the room. A wall/hanging lamp between the two beds would solve this problem. The sink is outside the bathroom. The shower was good: good temperature, good pressure.

You get a token for each person for a free drink, beer or wine. We both had their "Prickly Pear Wheat," which was very good. We were able to take the drinks out into the pool area, and we sat in the sun/shade and read. The pool is very attractive, but a tad small, but probably adequate.

Some written material in the room said that they have the "world's longest oatmeal bar." Maybe yes, maybe no. But, other than some fresh fruit, their breakfast centers around oatmeal and pop tarts (4 kinds). There's a huge vat of oatmeal and tons of toppings (pecans, walnuts, almonds, raisins, and many more). That, I guess, is the world's longest oatmeal bar.

This place is very different from your chain hotel, and for that reason, is not for everyone. But, we liked it enough to say that we would come back if we found ourselves back in Tucson.

New Mexico is mandating everyone be more vigilant about Covid right now, I understand, but they won't even hand you a cup of coffee in the morning. I was sent back to my room to email my request and the automated reply said it would be fulfilled within a half an hour. Fortunately, it did not take that long but there is no form to fill in for your breakfast so you have to type in all of your preferences in an email, every oatmeal topping, milk, fruit, etc for all of the people in your room. Typing with one finger on a phone, sheesh! Room was a bit sterile, pool cute, nice seating areas and pleasant staff. Freeway close so convenient but also a bit noisy.

Hello there and thank you for sharing your experience and feedback with us. While I'm glad you received your order in a more timely manner than originally advised of, I can totally understand the frustration of the room service process, especially for just a quick cup o' coffee to jump start your morning. Pre-covid, the lobby was open for guests to come up to the oatmeal bar and get their hot tasty beverages. After covid hit, we did the pandemic pivot and decided to offer room service instead so that we can bring you breakfast and you never have to leave the comfort of your room, keeping both our guests and staff safe. We agree that the method is a wee bit clunky as we had never intended to offer room service so weren't set up for it. However, because we want a better guest experience for you all, we're currently working on a much more user friendly, streamlined process. Should you ever find yourself in Tucson in the future, we hope you'll come back and try us out again! Fingers crossed our new and improved room service process is up and running. Cheers and stay well.

You need to stay at the Hotel McCoy. It is a fantastic place.
A motel which has been totally renovated in a retro and super cool way.
The staff is outstanding, friendly, knowledgeable and SO kind. Christopher gave us the best breakfast and lunch suggestions.
The room are clean, well decorated, the beds are comfortable. Little touches such as complimentary water in your room every day, token for a free drink at the bar and a "mood lifting" spray in your room make the difference.
The pool area is beautiful, with comfortable lounge chairs, heated pool and even a fire place in the evening if you want to enjoy a drink.
The breakfast is so much fun, an oatmeal buffet with so many toppings, fresh fruits and again complimentary coffee and tea.
I would also recommend having a drink at the bar, it is so welcoming and again the staff is the best.
Finally you can only feel happy when you stay at the Hotel McCoy because you are surrounded by uplifting and beautiful art everywhere.
The only thing I thing is missing is perhaps a dresser in the rooms so you can put your clothes away if you stay more than one night.

If you like art, retro, and oatmeal and don't mind small rooms you might love this place. The artwork is really beautiful. There are games in the common room, free coffee 24/7, really good tamales for sale, a few beers on tap and some expensive wine for sale, a nice swimming pool and outdoor area with a fireplace. However, we will not revisit this motel for various reasons. Our room was quite uncomfortable, because the wall unit that was supposed to keep the room cool/hot was extremely noisy and didn't work well. Our room was always stuffy. Also it's so small there is no closet or place anywhere to open suitcases except the bed. It's advertised as offering "free breakfast." The breakfast is homemade oatmeal in a crock with awesome toppings offered, all included. However if you don't like oatmeal, you are out of luck. There is nothing else except Pop-Tarts that you can put into a toaster. No yogurt, no hard boiled eggs, no muffins. One day, they forgot to clean our room. (We stayed 3 nights.) We stayed there because the ratings looked good and we thought we would like the artsy feel. After comparing the price to other places, it wasn't a good value for us.

Responded Feb 27, 2020
Hello there, Thanks for taking the time to share with us your experience. With the hotel being mid century architecture, we were also sad to see we weren't able to finagle in closets and had to opt for the accordion racks. We then realized we had an opportunity to make our guests' experience even better so stocked up on portable garment racks, but if you're staying in a standard Single Queen room for multiple nights, it may get a bit crowded. While we offer a free breakfast that addresses common allergens and heart-healthy options with oranges, apples, and the oatmeal bar (plus its plethora of toppings to choose from), we definitely understand not everyone is a porridge fan. We did hear the requests for yogurt (yum!) and even though we can't offer them complementary at this time, we do sell them for $2 next to the oatmeal bar. Perhaps we could make that option more visible at the oatmeal bar! I'm sorry to hear the AC/Heater was super noisy. I know I'm super picky about my air flow and can sometimes be a light sleeper. They take a bit of finagling but yes there is a chance you'll hear it kick on and off periodically. I also love coming back to a freshened up room when staying at a hotel, and I'm sorry to read we missed an opportunity to show you that love one of the days you were with us. We strive to not miss those chances, and apologize it happened to you. Thanks so much for giving us a try! We hope you got to cozy up by the fire pit and enjoy your glass of house beer or wine received with the poker chip. Warm regards.

Hotel McCoy is a must to stay at when we are in Tucson. The rate is very reasonable, the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and equipped with all the major necessities. The hotel is within a short car ride to both downtown Tucson and the desert parks. On top of all these positives is Hotel McCoy's unique look and feel: retro style rooms, local brews and wines, colorful art everywhere you look, and a fun recreation area for all ages. A complimentary oatmeal bar with many toppings and hot coffee is open for breakfast. Everyone working at the hotel is energetic and exudes a cheerful demeanor. Whenever we are in Tucson this is now our place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel McCoy from Friday Nov 5 - Sun Nov 7th with another couple we knew. This hotel was highly recommended by our friend who lives in Tucson. We arrived about 30 minutes before check in and they allowed us to check in early, and we were given 2 chips for complimentary drinks (wine & beer) at the lobby bar. We stayed in room 216 and it was a cute room, we loved the mural on the wall as well as all the murals and sayings that are painted throughout the hotel. I was disappointed that there was no water in our room even though the site says bottled water in the room, but there is filtered (?) water in the laundry/gym room with the ice machine. But there were no cups so I had to ask for some in the lobby - and the cups were never refilled during my stay. The rooms have no closet and no dresser either, but there was a hook with 3 hangers on the wall to use. There was also no place to put our suitcase except the floor, which was inconvenient since we had to use our suitcase as our dresser. These are all minor things though and NOT the reason for the 3 stars. After we had settled in, and were laying down we heard someone fumbling at the door but we weren't concerned because if they tried to open it their key wouldn't work, right? Wrong! Their key DID work and they opened the door on us! Thankfully, we had undergarments on but we were not pleased! When we notified the front desk they apologized and offered us drink tokens. If the other guest had walked in on us "doing the deed" or when we were undressed then drink tokens would not have sufficed. After we rested up (thankfully no more intrusions) we were getting cleaned up to go to dinner. I noticed my feet were dirty which I found strange as I hadn't been wearing sandals that day. I wiped my feet to put my shoes on and the cloth came back super dirty! I was a little perplexed as to how I got so dirty. While I was waiting for my husband to finish getting ready I went to sit on the bed and noticed the sheets & blanket on my side were touching the floor, so I went to straighten the bed and the part of the sheet that was touching the ground had all these dirty marks on it just from touching the floor! I then realized why my feet had been so dirty!! I mentioned my dirty floor to our friends as I was wondering if it was just our room and nope they had the same issue. The following morning on stepping into the shower we left black footprints all over the tub. I was disgusted. We bought 409 at the drugstore and I mopped my floor so I could walk on it without getting black feet. I have laminate flooring and vinyl plank flooring in my house and this is NEVER a problem for me (3 person household with 3 dogs) because I mop my floors. When we were packing to leave I put our suitcase on the bed to make it easier to pack and when I was done and moved it the bedding below had black marks all over it from the suitcase being on the floor (I didn't mop under my suitcase). Overall it wasn't a bad place to stay, I love to support small local businesses, there was a lot of art work and it was very cute. I would give them another try because mistakes happen, but this was a dissapointing first visit to say the least.

Aw Kaissa, we're so sorry to hear your stay with us left you feeling some sort of way. Understandable between floors and someone being assigned to the incorrect room with an active key would leave anyone frustrated and disappointed. While yes human error does occur (as far as key card faux pas), it's pretty icky to have your feet and luggage come up black. While we knew we wanted to scrap carpets when we renovated this mid century beauty , we soon realized after opening that even the upgraded version of vinyl flooring was still vinyl, porous, and the bane of our existence. Even with a good vacuum and a few mop outs with clean product and tools, those vinyl floors just love to cling to that desert durst. We're slowly working to replacing floors over time with tile as we can. Thanks for giving us a try and taking the time to share your experience, both the good and less than ideal.

Cannot praise this hotel enough! They were our last night's stay in a cross country move with our pup with lots of less than stellar stays at chain hotels. I chose Hotel McCoy based on allowing pets, and great online reviews but honestly did not have big expectations. The rooms are cute, clean, comfortable and have everything a weary traveler could need including a fridge, top notch toiletries, and wi-fi. The unexpected bonuses of extremely accommodating and friendly staff, a glass of delicious craft beer & an amazing oatmeal breakfast were the icing on the cake. If we are ever in Tucson again Hotel McCoy would absolutely be our first choice and we'll be more than happy to recommend this hotel to any family and friends headed to Tucson. Thanks for a great stay!

Since March,I have gone to Tucson from Phoenix for work once a week. Since it is a late shift,I have stayed overnight. I have had some time to do some local sights as well. Through research and trying different places, I have yet to have a negative experience. However, Hotel McCoy is getting my repeated business and my go to place. Being unique, consistently clean, friendly, and professional, all at a competitive price at a convenient location makes them a smart and safe choice. Give them a try, they are the Real McCoy.
