Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort is widely celebrated for its serene atmosphere, historic charm, and luxurious amenities, including multiple pools and exquisite gardens. Guests have called out the resort for its exceptional dining choices and consistently spotless environment. While the unique and spacious rooms with impressive views are a highlight, some guests feel improvements could be made in room value and service consistency, especially at the pool bar and restaurant. Despite the convenient location for sightseeing, the overall value is questioned by travelers facing high costs.

This was one of 4 places we stayed on our Arizona- New Mexico trip and by far the nicest. From the time we checked in until we left it was a calming and peaceful visit. We had dinner in the bar on the first night where our steak and salad were excellent along with the service. Breakfast the next day was fabulous in the restaurant with views to die for. Our room was large with great decor and a bathroom with two sinks, a large walk in shower and separate toilet area. The pools and workout area were clean and inviting. The nicest thing for me were the many quiet seating areas where I could relax and enjoy the environment. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Hotel's Favorite
Really enjoyed my experience staying at this resort. The rooms are large and extremely comfortable - including massive bathrooms and closet space. My room felt very private and like my own personal sanctuary while I was there, with a beautiful view of the sunrise. I did not take advantage of the many pools and gym while I was there, but they looked beautiful and there were plenty of options. I had a great experience at the spa - kind service and a comfortable space. I also thoroughly enjoyed the quality of the restaurant food although the menu felt limited. The front desk was extremely responsive - I loved the texting feature. Special shoutout to Josh who was particularly attentive and responsive. Housekeeping was thorough. I appreciated the included waters, coffee, etc. with the resort fee. Suggestions for improvement: Shower: weak shower pressure, overall pretty terrible shower head, water temperature inconsistent. Would have expected much better at a spa resort of this caliber Check in process - I arrived late at night due to a flight delay. The front desk was staffed, but the person at the front desk was very scattered and quite negative. She explained she'd been dealing with a drunk guest, so I certainly understood that throwing her off, but her overall attitude was off-putting - especially prior to a retreat encouraging relaxation and positivity. She quickly described where my room was, and made it clear she would not be walking me to my room. When I asked if there were signs she said "I think so?". It was dark and late at night, and a little unnerving walking to my room alone, especially as a female and being aware there was a belligerent drunk guest that could be around. I also had to navigate stairs with my heavy luggage, which was fine given my age/fitness, but I can't imagine if my parents had been the ones staying there in that situation. It made for a less than stellar first impression, but my tranquil and beautiful room quickly put me at ease. Other than that one service blip, the service was excellent and comprehensive throughout.

Wonderful stay. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean, relaxing, well laid out, and designed for comfort. They have thought of everything you could need. Loved the vanity seat in the bathroom for easy makeup application. Great views and gorgeous grounds. The indoor and outdoor showers were both wonderful. Multiple pools means you never have to go far to swim but the super deep main pool and hot tub were my favorite. Also loved the late hours, so many hotels close their pools so early you can’t soak in the hot tub before bed, not here! So relaxing to swim at night. The restaurant was good but not great, but the service was amazing. Our server Michelle was wonderful—friendly, funny, great recommendations and service. We felt very taken care of of. Highly recommend and will return.

A very average spot. The central area is nice with a two decent restaurants. The pool area looks good and has a nice view. However our rooms were set back into the property near the road, which was audible and visible from both rooms. One room was very bright and the other very dark. Part of the issue was the paint in one room was monotone and the other one had bright, colorful elements. Not sure how to get the former and not the latter. The bathrooms were plenty big enough although the shower has no door, and water can easily spread out around the entrance, creating a slip hazard. Decent sized closet. But dust was also pretty prevalent in the rooms, cleaning not so good, and the air system didn’t seem to help matters. Bad for those with allergies. Tucson doesn’t seem like a great hotel town, so this may really be one of the better ones. Wouldn’t rank in Scottsdale.

Thank you for your review and feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay overall and I will be sure to pass along your comments on the dust to housekeeping to ensure they are checking every spot as it happens fast in Arizona! Tucson is definitely not as metropolitan as Phoenix or Scottsdale, but is a wonderful city for history and tourism. We would be happy to recommend some wonderful places to check out in Tucson the next time you visit. We hope to see you back soon!

Overrated resort. Wonderful staff, not so great dining except for the Grill. Very slow service in the patio/outdoor restaurant. Breakfast was a hassle most days unless you make a reservation. What resort makes you reserve breakfast? Pools could have been warmer. Stated five nights in Sedona king. Room could have used more places to put clothes. Only three narrow drawers, not nearly enough for two adults with five days of clothing. Special kudos to front desk staff and valet.

Our family stayed while visiting U of AZ. What a pleasant surprise! The grounds and restoration of the old facilities are amazing. The restaurants and entertainment is first class - so much so - that the surrounding communities know and reservations are advised. Convenient to Tucson and the surrounding trails.

Hacienda Del Sol is a really beautiful property with deeply flawed customer service. On the plus side, the property is really stunning with sculptures, art, and lovely gardens. In addition, the food and service in the bar area was great (the liquor options and knowledge of the staff are truly top notch). Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. We booked through Amex Travel. (This hotel is theoretically part of the "Hotel Collection" with certain guaranteed benefits.) At check-in, told bluntly no upgrades (which is fine but most hotels in the program at least try to offer something). Late check out (past 11 am) flatly refused even though that is another benefit. The room we were assigned had a deep mildew/musty smell that was far worse than some 1 and 2 star hotels I have stayed in. $35 resort fee is a complete joke (for WiFi, 2 bottles of water and "gratuities"). WiFi was unusable. Left separate gratuity for housekeeping and did not use valet (since open parking spot was about 30 feet from room). Coffee and water (yes, water) in the lobby (another thing stated as covered by the "resort fee') was never available. At check out, was given a bill for incidentals and "resort fee." Told account was settled. Earlier today, I see that I was charged again for the room -- even though it was prepaid through Amex Travel 2 months ago. At every other hotel (especially at the 4 to 5 star level), a billing mistake like this would either not happen or be resolved with a quick phone call. Not Hacienda Del Sol. Was flatly told that I needed to take the double billing up with Amex Travel -- they did not even want to see the reservation or attempt resolution. I feel sad writing this review because this is such a beautiful place and the restaurant/bar staff are awesome. But at the prices they charge, you can't provide front desk service that is far worse than you would get at your average Red Roof Inn.

Thank you for sharing your experience and bringing some things to our attention. I left you a voicemail with the billing resolution (and our front desk agent did look at the reservation, the issue just happened to be more complicated, so she only worked with what she had) and I'm glad we could get it resolved. The Hotel Collection perks are based on availability, and unfortunately during our busiest month of the year some of those perks are unavailable, but we did put you in what we thought was the best room of your room type that we had available with the beautiful corner mountain view window and private patio. I'm so sorry that the room didn't meet your expectations and I will address it with housekeeping. We do pride ourselves on our stellar guest service, as mentioned in the other reviews, and I wish I was able to reach you to speak to you personally. However I understand your perspective and I cannot apologize enough for your experience. I do hope you decide to stay with us again to see what we are proud of. Thank you very much for your feedback.

We've stayed at the Hacienda del Sol several times in recent years while visiting family in Tucson, and we returned again most recently in February after a disappointing stay at the Westin in January. This is a boutique hotel that remains one of our favorite options in Tucson. We've always stayed in the Sonoran rooms, which are quite spacious, so we don't know what the older Hacienda rooms are like. In our experience, rooms are generally very quiet and peaceful, though those adjacent to the pools get a bit more noise, and when the hotel hosts outdoor events, more noise can be audible and parking can be challenging (though valet is always an option). Views of the Catalinas from the mountain view rooms are stunning, and sitting on the large, tranquil patios and watching the mountains in the changing light of the day is one of our favorite activities. We appreciate the southwestern decor and large bathrooms as well. We do wish the hotel would reserve one spot in the upper lot near the mountain view rooms for hotel guest use only for active loading/unloading; this small lot is often full, and the lower lot is really too far to be convenient for loading the car on arrival/departure. Be aware there is a bit of a walk from the parking lots to some of the rooms, and rooms on the second floor (which we prefer for their better views and privacy) have no elevator access, so luggage has to be hand-carried up and down a flight of stairs for those rooms. Rooms do have exterior entrances, but we've always felt safe and secluded during our stays. Since we often have very early morning flights out of Tucson, we'd love an online checkout option, but that's a fairly minor detail. In general, we've been very satisfied with our experiences at this hotel, and we'll continue to return here on future trips.

We were so glad to have you back! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the ambience, views, and rooms once again. If you happen to arrive next time when we have a history tour, you may be able to see one of those older Historic rooms look like and hear the stories behind them. Thank you for the suggestion on the parking lot - it can get a bit crowded and being in the foothills makes some of the walking a bit of a cardio stretch, but we're always happy to pick up from your vehicle in a golf cart and get you to your room. Thank you very much for your feedback and review, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in a King Sonoran Suite for an anniversary trip with our son. The resort and location is beautiful and our room was spacious and felt very private. We really enjoyed the pools and the resort was very quiet and relaxing. We did wish the location was closer to more activities and amenities. We didn’t use the restaurants since there was no kid menu. The WiFi was terrible and basically unusable. The grounds were gorgeous and we enjoyed relaxing on our patio and listening to the birds and the views.

Thank you very much for you your review and happy anniversary to you! What a wonderful room you chose to celebrate such a special occasion, it's one of my favorites. My favorite part about the resort is that we're far enough from the city to be nice and quiet but not too far from other things like shopping and restaurants, though having a rental car or using a rideshare service is necessary. We do have a kids menu in our Terraza as well as crayons on request! Thank you again and we look forward to your next visit with us!
