The first time we stopped here we were looking for an overnight stay enroute to/from the Sonoran Desert Museum and the Saguaro National Park (both literally minutes down the road). We quickly realized that this place is a destination in itself, so this trip we stayed 3 days and dedicated one whole day and an afternoon to just enjoying the Lodge. It is set in a large estate and includes a winding nature trail through un-managed desert, as well as multiple landscaped gardens, sitting areas, and courtyards. Spencer's Observatory is on-site, and offers several levels of "star tours" of the clear dark sky with 2 professional level telescopes. You won't find any room numbers, because each room is unique and identified by name. We stayed in the Ranch Room and Fiesta Room (Wheelchair adapted) at the lodge, which is a series of rooms set in a square around a beautifully landscaped, shady courtyard. Over the road is the Roadside Inn part of the facility, which also features unique rooms on a corridor, with a very pleasant, landscaped common plaza in the back. Spectacular views everywhere, and amazingly imaginative, clever landscape ideas including a rock maze.
The associated Coyote Pause Cafe is worth a stop all by itself. Vouchers for one breakfast or lunch per person per night is included in the room fee. Food is great, plenty of it, and the staff is beyond terrific. Cafe is only open until 2:00 pm, which seems to be a pattern in this area and brings us to the only issue we had...If you want dinner you're going to have to get in the car and drive at least 10-20 minutes because there is no food service available in the evening for 5 - 8 miles or so. Two of our party of 4 were confined to wheelchairs, and getting in and out of the car was a project, so we elected to use online food delivery services for dinner, and they worked out fine. The ever-helpful staff made sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner in the comfortable common room, available 24 hours and stocked with coffee machine, microwave, and snacks.
In sum, this place is perfectly located for an overnight while visiting the Desert Museum/National Park, but if you use it that way you're going to miss out on a unique experience.

I couldn't find many reviews about the guest house online, but it ended up being just as stunning as the main lodge! It's only a short skip across the road from the lodge to the guest house--you could walk if needed. The guest house is equipped with a full kitchen, perfect decor, and a bathroom with both tub and shower. There's a private patio out back looking out over the hills and saguaro desert, including a fire pit for cold nights, or a full table and umbrella for warmer days.

Loved our stay, would definitely return!

We were looking for a place to stay close to Saguaro National Park and the Desert Museum for an anniversary getaway with our dog. We found the Cat Mountain Lodge and Roadside Inn online and we were not disappointed! From the moment we pulled in and saw the darling little travel trailer with the "Vacancy" sign, to the decor and beautiful colors inside, to the peaceful garden to enjoy and evening drink or morning coffee. We stayed in the Tejas room at the Roadside Inn. The common kitchen is available 24/7 stocked with coffee and dishes, glasses and ice, plus there is space in refrigerator for your items- (our celebratory champagne!) There is a security screen door in the room leading to the outside so you can enjoy a cool breeze and listen to the birds and spy on the visiting deer. The bed was comfy and we had everything we needed. We also received coupons for $10 off per person each day for breakfast or lunch at the restaurant across the street and a $5 coupon for the Buffalo Trading Post. There are stores/galleries near the restaurant and a fun Rock Shop on the Roadside Inn side of the street. All of these are a very short walk. *Bonus: there were also a pair of nesting hawks with 4 chicks in a tree next to the restaurant. Everyone we encountered from the Inn Keepers to the gardeners were welcoming and pleasant. We will definitely be back for another visit.

We liked everything about it. The comfortable room. The artwork and artifacts everywhere. The outdoor gardens, with artistic benches and bird feeders and beautiful landscaping with cacti and other desert plants . The labrynth and nature trail. The comfortable outdoor patio sitting areas. The voucher for breakfast at the coyote pause cafe. The location near Tucson mountain park and the Arizona Sonora desert museum. The breathtaking views. Just wish we could have stayed longer. It will be worth a return trip to Tucson to stay here again. The Davy Crockett room in the roadside inn was priced comparably to moderately priced hotels in the city. Would be happy to stay on either the roadside inn or maybe try the lodge, which is a little more set back from the road.

My husband and I stayed at Cat Mountain with our dog this past week. The Lodge and Inn is at the base of the Tucson Mountains, a cool retreat from downtown. The decor and grounds were decorated in early southwest themes, desert landscaping and colorful art. Our room is wheelchair accessible, and also suitable for bed transfer with hoyer lift, which is very unusual for hotel beds. Many of the rooms are dog friendly with a small fee. We were very comfortable, enjoyed exploring the grounds. The complex includes Coyote Pause Cafe, and 1 meal/per person/day is included. The menu is southwest/American, open for breakfast and lunch. Dogs are allowed on the patio. Also, there is a trading post with unique clothes, housewares and souveniers. Had a wonderful time and will be back.

I recently visited Tucson for a week-long vacation. I found several very appealing B&Bs on Trip Advisor. Rather than choose one for my stay, I decided to spend two nights at each of three different places. The Cat Mountain Lodge was my final stop. This B&B is located on the western side of Tucson, just outside Tucson Mountain Park (and near the Western section of the Saguaro Cactus National Park). I really enjoyed my stay here. My room (Diego’s Room) was very spacious and well-appointed. In fact, the room and the entire premises were decorated in incredibly attractive and engaging furnishings, artwork and other décor (see photos). Each room comes with its own outside patio, with views of beautiful desert landscapes. The Cat Mountain does not serve breakfast, but instead provides a $10 voucher for the Coyote Pause Café across the street. The café’s menu is diverse and inspired by southwestern cuisine. It was easy to find interesting and tasty breakfasts there. (They also serve lunch.) I really enjoyed my time at the Cat Mountain Lodge, and I would definitely stay there again.

The Cat Mountain roadside inn B&B was fanatic. I don’t normally stay at B&B’s, but this place was recommended by friends and it was so clean, so quaint, the kitchen was so nicely stocked with refrigerator bins for each room to store food in. They had a beautiful landscaping outside around the entire perimeter and terrific ambience. The six of us ate dinner we
Brought in from a Market and outside on the table with a great view for two nights. The rooms all have their own Quaint theme. Netflix is included in the TV. Bathroom has all the manatees you need including Q-tips and cotton balls. They even have filtered water in the kitchen and magnifying make up mirrors in the bedrooms The only thing it lacked was cream rinse/hair conditioner. Sunscreen spray was also on hand if you needed to use it.

The breakfast was included at the “ Coyote Pause Café” across the street from the Inn, and the breakfast was excellent, and the staff was so kind.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend anyone to stay here. We stayed in the old tombstone room at the Inn, but they also have the Cat Mountain lodge which is very nice as well across the street.

Loads of color and the western artifacts were so delightful. Getting ready to go out was a treat. Although our bathroom was small, it was so well planned. A makeup mirror on the wall at just the right height. If you moved the door just so, you could see the back of your head to make sure your hair was just right. The towels were very accessible. The kitchen-lounge was just perfect, right down to the Sharpie marker to label any food you put in the refrigerator. There were games and a eating table. With so many places to relax inside and outside, we were charmed by them all. Our time at Cat Mountain was just plain fun

Cat Mountain Lodge and Roadside Inn has a very unique setup, in my experience anyway. The lodge is on one side of the road, behind the cafe where breakfast is served, and the roadside inn is on the other side of the road. My husband and I absolutely loved this place. We stayed in the Fiesta room in the lodge, which certainly had an old-time classic feel to it but was up to date - good water pressure in the shower, a nice firm mattress and comfortable pillows, and a TV with lots of options for streaming. The rooms all face a beautiful courtyard area, and behind the lodge is a labyrinth and a nature trail. The Spencer Observatory is there as well, but we didn't check that out.

If you stay in the lodge, know that check-in is across the road at the Roadside Inn.

The Arizona Room is a hospitality center that was right next door to our room, and even when other guests were in the Arizona room we could barely hear them. Coffee, tea, cookies, books, and a computer were available 24 hours a day, which was really nice.

The Cat Mountain breakfast experience is different from other B&Bs we've visited. Rather than guests all gathering at once to share a meal, we were given vouchers worth $15 each to use within hours of operation at Coyote Pause Cafe which is there on site. The voucher does not cover any tip you'd care to leave, and most mornings our food choices put us over the $15 voucher amount so we did pay a small amount out of pocket. For people who like the comaraderie of a typical B&B, Cat Mountain is different.

Saguaro National Park is about a 15 minute drive from Cat Mountain Lodge and Roadside Inn, and a Tucson State Park trail is less than a quarter mile away. We had about a five minute drive to a small selection of restaurants, and downtown Tucson was a 20 minute drive on a Saturday afternoon. Not sure what it's like when traffic is heavier.

No pool, no fitness center, but then B&Bs don't usually offer those options. And with all the trails in the area we walked our way to fitness every day. Not every lodging option is going to appeal to all travelers, but if you unique, southwestern, and out of the way sounds good to you, you will probably like Cat Mountain Lodge and Roadside Inn.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about this place, I stayed on the lodge side and it was wonderful. I typically don’t spend much time in my hotel but this place is so inviting I didn’t want to leave. Staff couldn’t be nicer. There’s a lovely little courtyard that all the lodge rooms open to. It was shaded enough that even in the heat of day it was pleasant to sit out there. The surrounding grounds are also wonderful with a stone labyrinth and some nature trails. They also have some little spots to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and very nicely decorated. It was also quite, just the faint sound of the courtyard fountain. It’s very close to Saguaro National Park and The Living Desert Museum. There’s also a cute cafe within walking distance and you get a voucher for $10 for breakfast or lunch there. Next to the cafe is a wonderful artist co-op. If you’re looking for a relaxing retreat, this is the place for you!

Is the hot tub closer to the roadside inn or the lodge?
Answer from ScarletAndGrey
Ohio318 contributions194 helpful votes
The Roadside Inn is across the street. We only went there to check in, so didn't see a whole lot of it. The Inn is a single floor building with an interior central hallway between the rooms. The Lodge is kind of an indoor/outdoor building with a semi-open courtyard in the front (has a large gate that locks) with the rooms situated around the courtyard. The rooms, décor, etc are the same style at either location. We really enjoyed the Lodge an the backyard garden & sitting areas, but you'd be fine at either for just a night.
