August 3, 2020 - a day to celebrate! After a 5 month closure, Canyon Ranch reopened today and it's better than ever! Staff and management have done an incredible job of making guests feel both welcome and safe. The vibe is so positive - It is clear that the staff is thrilled to be back. Although I can't see their smiles through their masks, the enthusiasm in their voices and sparkle in their eyes come through loud and clear. Even though the gym has not yet opened, and class offerings are less than normal, there is still plenty to do. The newly added outdoor activities are a great addition. The food is better than ever and the newly renovated rooms are a nice upgrade. The Canyon Ranch team has always been exceptional, The re-opening has taken it to a new level. A great big thank you to the team for all of the resilience, resourcefulness and commitment that went into making this happen. Looking forward to spending many, many more days at Canyon Ranch, the greatest place on earth!

The best decision I could have ever made was to treat myself doing something totally different for my 50th birthday! I have been wanting to go to Canyon Ranch Spa resort in Tucson, Arizona for a long time! At 50 “just do it!” Every single day healthy eating and drinking, no choice. All day access to the spa, gym, hikes, classes, lectures, meditation, etc. I tried so many things for the first time! Ashiatsu ( barefoot compressive massage)! This was the best freaking massage!!! Barefoot table Tai, Muscle melt for road warriors massage (paultice herbal, little bit of tai and deep tissue massage). Acuphoria (acupuncture), Neuromuscular Therapy. The icing on the cake was MY bday activity——Natural Rock climbing, That first climb (x 3 climbs), I was calling all the angels!! I froze in one spot not knowing which way to go to move forward. At this point it was all a challenge of mental strength vs mental weakness for me. I remained in that one spot for what felt like hours, literally. I looked up (long way to go), then looked down (long way to go). No movement at this point, literally against the wall, mind chatter and a sensation of wanting to cry and tell the guider “I’m done I can’t do this.” I looked up again, looked to both sides and just moved. I could hear the guiders saying “YES!!!!!!” “Just trust your big toe!!” 😳 I moved to a point where I could actually turn and sit for about min or two, then continued on finally reaching the top!! The rappel (descend) was easy!!! I climbed a few more times after the first! The guider “you killed that last climb!!!” 🙌 That wall was 600 feet. 6000 feet in elevation to get there. I asked myself, “were you nervous?” “No, just uncomfortable, no room for nervousness.” Had I been nervous I would have 💩 on myself and lost my ride back to the ranch!! ✌🏾 I can not remember the tour guy and the young girl.for the rock climbing Omg they were so very very nice!! I love them. I should have written the review as soon as soon as I got home. I so miss this place and the all the people that I encountered were so so very welcoming. Customer service was the best I had ever experienced. I am so wanting to go back. I’m afraid now that this corona virus is dampening everything. I’m trying to create my own spa experience until I can get back there.

Returned to Canyon Ranch after a +10 year hiatus to find the experience still solid with a few noticeable changes. Would recommend if you are looking for a safe bet for a wellness trip. - All of the employees are very helpful and friendly. Most of them seem to genuinely enjoy working there and are long term employees. - Spa services overall were great and spa itself, although a little dated, continues to be lovely place to spend an afternoon. Rumor is they are soon renovating the spa area. - Lots of great evening programming. Our favorite was Saturday night line dancing with Art and Elaine from Tuscon Line Dancing. They made it so fun and it was a great workout! - Appreciate the choice in two restaurants, it helps keep things interesting. Food is good for being "healthy" and I applaud their effort to use less meat, garlic, onions, gluten, etc. Food just becomes a little boring after a few days. Next time we'll probably leave the Ranch for a meal. - Rooms were advertised as "remodeled" but to us they seemed more "redecorated". None of the appliances or fixtures changed. Seems like they removed the southwest decor like pillows and curtains and replaced them with purchases from HomeGoods.

After many years of going to the Canyon Ranch, my visit in 2018 and again in 2019 several subtle changes were noticed. The first issue that I noticed was the deterioration in the food services. Menus rarely changed throughout my week there. Second, for medical services, understandably the CR does not accept assignment for medical insurance. But as of 2018, there are no Superbills issued that you could submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Thirdly and maybe most importantly for me was the reduction in the fitness staff. As of my visit in 2019 , there is a solo instructor in the fitness classes, whose responsibility is to any number of students (sometimes up to 30+) with a second instructor who will poke his or her head in periodically. In the past, these second instructors were always on hand to make sure that the guests were doing things right and not hurt themselves. Also, they provided backup instructions to persons that were slow to catch on or had some mild limitations. The primary instructor could not possibly teach and keep an eye on each guest. Now the second instructor "floats" through several different classes during the hour. I believe that this is an accident waiting to happen. When brought to the attention of the management of the CR, I was told that this practice was the "industry standard. " With the fees charged by the CR, I would assume that an effort would be made to exceed the "industry standard". Oh my, what has happened to the Canyon Ranch?

I've been coming to Canyon Ranch for several years now and while I've always enjoyed the scenery, the health and wellness program, and the delicious healthy food, I've never been impressed by the facilities. In fact, they have been frankly disappointing. However, no longer! CR has just completed renovating most of the residential cabins and plan to have the remainder done soon. The newly renovated rooms are fabulous! More open, brighter and much better appointed overall, especially the totally redone bathrooms! Now I don't need to shower at the spa. Speaking of the spa, the rumor is that that area is next on the list for renovation. Despite all the welcome changes, what makes Canyon Ranch such a special place, such as the incredible staff, the diversity of activities with something for everyone and the serene setting in the gorgeous Tucson mountains hasn't changed one bit! I can't wait to come back!
