We booked 3 nights , two in the Camp. We left early the next morning. The place was absolutely filthy. Under the beds were huge lumps of dog fur mixed with huge clumps of dust, dirt and food. The lamps in the bedroom were covered in dust. The floors were dirty as well. Clearly no one had cleaned behind the end tables, baseboards, or under beds. Baseboards and corners were covered in dog fur, dirt and dust. This in the middle of a pandemic, did not give us confidence that any amount of cleaning was done in between guests. It’s too bad, because the place was cute, quiet and in a wonderful location. Also we were bitten by fleas as well. No excuse for filth at any price, but especially at 160$ a night. We couldn’t leave fast enough. Awful night.
We had a wonderful 3-night stay at West Quoddy Station and highly recommend the Crews Quarters. There is plenty of room for two couples and perhaps even three, and the view from the LARGE deck is incomparable. It is a tremendous value and totally worth it. Bill gave us plenty of tips on things to do and places to eat before we got there, and he makes for a good tour guide. An absolute gem!
As a lighthouse fan, the West Quoddy Lighthouse has always been on my "must see" list. Imagine my joy, when I learned that I could actually stay on the property. Easy check in and out. Rustic, but as expected for the lighthouse station...Treat yourself to a unique stay and be sure to check out the unique town of Lubec, Maine
On Aug 19, I booked the only room available at the time for Aug 31st overnight in the Lubec area for $299.75. This was for the "Crew's Quarters" which actually sleeps 8, certainly excessive for just a solo traveller. I had told the facility that i was very open to downsizing. On the morning of Aug 31st, they called me and asked if I was still up to changing to a much smaller room which they described as a "studio apt", with cooking facilities. It was also 1/3rd of the price; of course, I said yes. I arrive at the West Quoddy Station and there was NO ONE there: the office was closed. I walked around to the various buildings and noticed that people's names were on various but I could not find my name. When I called the contact number, the gal told me that I was staying in the main building. I was LITERALLY staying in room that their manager would occasionally use! His clothes, yoga mat, shoes/slippers and books were in the room. I was pretty creeped up but I was exhausted from driving from St Louis so eventually I fell asleep after a text assurance that "the manager has his own place" somewhere else. The sheets were supposedly "clean" but the navy blue comforter was not and the pillow definitely smelled like someone else's head slept there regularly. I have no idea what the other rooms are like; I never saw them. The towels were clean but I had to use the manager's shampoo and soap. The kitchen was clean as was their office. Please see photos. Fact: Before arrival,I was told ahead of time that the manager stayed there "occasionally". I just had NO idea that he would have his clothes still in the room! I felt like an intruder; sleeping in someone's bed without his knowledge. As a female solo traveler, I was also very nervous that he could show up while I was sleeping! Maybe, Mainers don't think this way; However, this city girl from St Louis does. Was it worth $109 for the night? NO! Worse sleep ever. If there would've been availability, I would've stayed another night at the wonderful motel on Campobello Island, New Brunswick which was coincidentally was also $109.…
Wonderful location across the bay from Lubec and about a 15-20 minute walk to West Quoddy Lighthouse. The suite is spacious, there is a well equipped kitchen, and the beds are comfortable with lots of lighting options. There are grassy areas surrounding the buildings and some chairs and picnic benches. The only problem was that the shower curtain was short, so water leaked onto the bathroom floor. Also, check out time is at 10 am, which is a little bit early.
