Hotel Providence, part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham, garners compliments for its friendly staff and the charming, elegant atmosphere that permeates its premises. The cleanliness of the hotel is frequently applauded, with guests enjoying well-kept rooms that blend historic character with modern conveniences. However, there are calls for updates to both the room decor and amenities.
Situated in a prime location, the hotel is appreciated for its proximity to local attractions, despite some concerns about the surrounding area. While thoughtful touches like complimentary snacks are well-received, guests have called out the high parking fees and unexpected charges, suggesting these diminish the hotel's overall value.

Detailed Reviews
We spent a night at the Hotel Providence after seeing a show at PPAC - it's a great location just a block away from the theater and surrounded by dozens of great restaurants. The room was great for the two of us - a large comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom; the shower had pretty poor water pressure, but upon reporting it to the front desk they replaced the shower head in less than an hour. The room was on the pricier side for Providence-area hotels but it was a fun chance to splurge in a great location.

Hello ewoulfe - Thank you for your review! It is true that we pair perfectly with a visit to PPAC. Many PPAC guests with season tickets actually book the entire season with us. During your next visit, be sure to have dinner at our restaurant - Backstage Kitchen + Bar. Our three course theater menu is designed to be sure you're on time before that curtain rises. I'm also pleased to report that our rooms have all new shower heads in our room that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Regards, Greg Nawrocki Director of Sales

We went for a family affair to Providence and the hotel of choice was this one. Unfortunately they were nearly fully booked and so we had to take a suite which was a bit pricey. But it was nice, although we didn't need all that space for just one night. We enjoyed the bathroom with a nice deep bathtub and a great shower. There were nice pictures and all the amenities one expects (fridge, coffee maker, etc.) This hotel is perfectly located, near many restaurants and the theater.
The hotel offers valet parking for 30 bucks and while there is limited street parking it obviously is the easiest choice.

A very convenient location in downtown providence. You are greeted at your car by the valet and shown inside. The rooms have high ceilings which makes a good size room seem even larger. The crown moldings give off an air of elegance. The bathroom is nice and large as well. The lobby always has some kind of treat for you, whether a cookie or pastry. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for some mechanical noise that went all night. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We never stayed because there was a strong antiseptic cleaner odor in the room. The front desk moved us but the smell was strong there also. The front desk gave us a refund and helped us relocate to a near by hotel

The Hotel Providence is in a wonderful location right in the heart of downtown Providence and within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. There are some parking areas within a short walk to the hotel or you can use the excellent valet service that they offer for $30 a day.
The reception area was well appointed and efficient.
We stayed in a standard king room (202)
Which was a corner room with an o.k view of downtown. The room was near the elevator and stairwell (which seemed to always smell of weed:) so it was rather noisy at night and early in the morning. The walls are very thin so you hear more than you would want. The room was a good size with a comfy bed, mini fridge, room safe and several device charging ports. The bathroom was rather small and the bathroom floor was a little dirty. The shower is very small and a challenge to use. Overall a decent boutique style hotel in a great downtown location.

We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the location of Hotel Providence. Being in the heart of the city you can park the car with the valet and walk to all of Providence's attractions like PPAC, Trinity, and Providence Place Mall. We are sorry to hear your room was a bit noisy, we have just purchased new sound machines for our rooms to help mitigate the noise. Our staff's impeccable service and the hotels' location make Hotel Providence an excellent choice when visiting the Capital. Sincerely, Thomas Anderson

+1
I’m originally from RI but haven’t been back for many many years. I couldn’t believe how difficult it was to find a hotel that seems to cater to pets more than people. I love animals, but it would be nice if hotels put aside people only rooms for those allergic! You can vacuum and clean, but the dander remains !!!
I finally found just that in Hotel Providence! They were so accommodating and pleasant.
I made the reservation about 3 weeks prior to our arrival and a few days before coming I received a lovely welcome letter from the management!
I wrote to confirm a few requests and in less than an hour, I received a lovely email going over my requests and telling me he was forwarding a copy to housekeeping as well as the front desk!
Sure enough when I was checking in, Molly who couldn’t have been sweeter, without asking assured me my room was ready according to my specifications.
Upon arrival I was immediately awe struck at the charm and beauty of the lobby. I felt like I had been transported back in time.
Check in was effortless and we went up to our room. And once again I was wowed! We were in a jr suite with a lovely sitting room with a couch, chair and tv and doors that closed off to a huge bedroom. We had 2 queen size beds, dresser, small fridge and large tv. The bathroom was also very large with a shower stall and great water pressure!! And a scale !! Lol I’ve never seen a scale in a hotel room but why not!!
Because we were in the downtown area, I wasn’t surprised to hear garbage trucks early in the morning, but really it was maybe 10 minutes of noise.
They do have a restaurant on the first floor off of the lobby but unfortunately only open on Friday and Saturdays and we were there on a Sunday.
The front desk gave us a list of nearby places to get breakfast but they also put out complimentary hot coffee, teas and pastries each morning.
The only challenge was parking - late on a Sunday afternoon the narrow street was filled with cars and the valet seemed to be backed up. However, a very short walking distance from the hotel we found a free standing parking lot that you could go in/out as much as you liked so we opted to park there! To be honest, it was less than the valet parking and you didn’t have to call down or wait for your car!
I’m just sorry we had just a one night stay and didn’t get the chance to walk around and investigate this funky artsy area!

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Providence the weekend before Christmas. We had tickets to see a show at the PPAC, and the hotel is so conveniently located to it, we could walk there within 2 minutes. The shops around the hotel are fun and interesting, and they have a few very good places to eat within walking distance as well.
The hotel itself was very clean, up to date, decorated nicely for the holiday. The staff was very polite and engaging. They even offer quite a bit of yummy food at around 4p (I think) in the lobby; homemade cookies, soup, cheese and crackers, other snacks, etc. Coffee is available really early which is great for us.
We would definitely stay again.
The one negative is that our room had very little drawer space. I had to live out of my suitcase which wasn't a problem because it was only two nights, but for a longer stay, it would have been inconvenient. We had a double queen, so many other rooms have better storage options.

I enjoyed my stay at the Providence Hotel. First of all, what I want to mention is the amazing value I got on HotelTonight when I booked it. I paid just $65 per night (with no taxes), and it is a truly great deal for the nice quality I received. The hotel is pet friendly, but they charge a small fee. The hotel’s location is great, it is located in the heart of Providence Downtown. Everything around is walkable. The hotel’s front desk staff was super sweet and friendly. Every single time I came in or left the hotel they told me “hi” or wished me Good night. How lovely it was! The hotel’s lobby is designed really nice! I liked its old furniture and its old vibe. Everything was clean. The elevator was big and fast but I did not like the fact that it was just a single elevator. If the hotel was not empty because of the COVID pandemic, I am sure it would take much time to wait for it. I got my room on a high floor, and I had a pretty view of an old church from there. I liked my room, but I feel like it needs to be remodeled. It just did not feel fresh there, it felt dusty even though the room seemed very clean. Some furniture had scratches. Also I did not like the plug situation in my room, there were not enough plugs. And the plugs next to the bed didn’t have much power of charging. However, the room was huge, the windows were big which made the room very bright. I really enjoyed my King Size Bed, it was super comfortable. Unfortunately the bathroom was tiny, and I totally did not like its design. It felt like I was in a cheap hospital’s bathroom. I would remodel the bathroom for sure! There was a bathtub there, which was a plus, but it was small and barely fit me unfortunately. Bathroom amenities did not include the shower gel, and they were of cheap quality. Wi-Fi was working very fast during my entire stay. In general, I liked the hotel and I 100% recommend it for a stay in Providence.

Dear Albert, Thank you for your kind comments about the hotel. Being located right in the heart of Providence gives our guests easy access to some of Providences finest shops and restaurants. We are happy to hear our staff was accommodating and welcoming in our beautifully designed lobby filled with one of kind art pieces. We have passed along the comments about our charging ports to engineering to see if we can improve this. Each year we set aside capital to improve our hotel and we will take your comments about the bathroom into consideration when planning for next year. We look forward to seeing you soon! This once great hotel has gone downhill from my last review in 2014. I'm not sure if it's the result of the new management (Wyndham) or the post-COVID 19 era, but this hotel has taken a turn for the worse. We recently returned from an overnight stay in a King room. Gone are the days of the Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, fine linens, and superior customer service.
The room was OK, but the bed desperately needs to be replaced. Where they used to feature high-end feather pillows, the pillows are now hard foam pillows. I used to love the sheets that they featured, but they seem to have been replaced with lower quality linens. Small details such as refilling the soap dispensers and repairing broken fixtures seem to go ignored. It seems that they’re cutting corners wherever possible.
We were checked in by a young man who was very helpful, courteous, and welcoming. I regret that I did not get his name. However upon checking out, we were met with Sam who identified himself as the “sort of” a supervisor. Sam was cold and indifferent to issues surrounding our stay. I understand that it’s a difficult job when you’re constantly hearing problems, but friendliness and warmth goes far. Unfortunately Sam was the last person we dealt with at the hotel, so that was my lasting impression.
The hotel itself used to feature quite a vibrant bar and high-end restaurant. The bar seems to be permanently closed, and I believe the restaurant is only open for private events. There’s multiple dining within walking distance of the hotel, but keep in mind that there’s a significant homeless population immediately outside of the hotel (which is, of course, no fault of the hotel). The lobby is still pretty, and they feature cookies/muffins with coffee (I’m guessing that the amenities fee covers this), but overall this 4.5* hotel feels more like a 3* hotel.

I had a gift in my room when I arrived, a disgusting and large hairball in the shower. The A/C was on in the winter with the thermostat set at 54 degrees. Coffee maker, but no coffee cups.
Parking the car and filling out the online form/payment is a process, as is the “COVID” form upon check in (ironic since Rhode Island has had the highest per capita COViD cases this winter...who are they kidding?).
With all the COVID hysteria and social justice over-reaction Providence is an empty and depressing city, unfortunately Hotel Providence isn’t making the experience any better.
If this is the best hotel Providence has to offer, I’d hate to think what the other hotels are like.

We are sincerely sorry for the issues you encountered in the room as this was a major oversight in our housekeeping department. The forms that were presented to you to fill out were state forms that our government has instructed us to use for contact tracing reasons. We are sorry you did not enjoy the city and hope you consider visiting again when the city is back to its vibrant self Sincerely, Thomas Anderson

Hi 1 room we were in did and the other did not. So no.
We did not order room service. Sorry, can't help. They have a restaurant - why not call?
There is one on the second floor of the hotel next to our vending machines
I cannot remember, they may have knocked this charge off the bill due to my complaints when checking out.
TV's were fine; good size for the room. We didn't watch a lot of tv; just the news so I can't say anything about the variety of channels.
