Detailed Reviews
Our stay here this past weekend was wonderful. Located in a historic home from the 1800's, this bed and breakfast is exactly what you would imagine. Cozy, warm and with lots of little touches that make it exceptional. I appreciated their sanitization and clearly communicated procedures that were emailed to me before the trip. Once we got there, a friendly woman at the front desk showed us where our room was and pointed out the common areas. The fireplace in the room was definitely a nice touch to make the room feel warm and inviting. The welcome cookies and mints on the table were adorable. Breakfast was great and being able to enjoy it in our room with a view of the capitol building was even better. The chef cooking up breakfast was also very friendly. Overall, a great stay and I'd highly recommend it!

My wife and I try to stay in historic homes. There is something special about them. That includes the Christopher Dodge House in Providence, Rhode Island.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a huge smile and great customer service. We were given a tour of our room and lots of information was provided to us about our lodging for two nights.
It is a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Upstairs is a parlor, where all sorts of drinks are available 24/7. It was great to get coffee before breakfast was served. The room has a gas fireplace to add warmth and ambiance.
The breakfast room is at the end of the hallway on the second floor. It is a beautiful setting with its wood floors. A gas fireplace is tucked away in the corner of the room.
Breakfast was good, but it is not as fancy as what we had at the B&Bs along the coast of Maine. You get a hot meal and there are choices of breads and other breakfast items. The tables were spread far enough apart for health reasons (Covid).
Though it is located on the west side of I-95, we found the traffic noise to be minimal. Christopher Dodge House is in a very convenient location as we were able to walk to downtown Providence from here.
Even though it is in a historic neighborhood, there are some parking spaces available. Parking on the small street is prohibited. If the small parking lot is full, you can park a block away. We had to do that a couple of times and despite the cold winter night, we did not mind the short walk.
Our room was on the bottom floor and faced the highway and the statehouse. At night, it was lovely to see the lit dome of the statehouse. The room was spacious. It was so big that we had enough room to go around our four suitcases and carry-on luggage. We had a king size bed and it was very comfortable. Wi-Fi is free and the reception seemed to be good.
Providence is a lovely city to visit. If we are able to make it back, Christopher Dodge House will definitely be where we stay.

My husband and I have recently returned from a 3 night stay at Christopher Dodge House. It was our second stay there and, once again, we were very happy with our choice. The property is beautiful and we particularly loved our large room and its high ceilings - so elegantly and comfortably furnished. We appreciated all the Covid precautions being taken so we could really relax and enjoy our stay while feeling safe. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and the attention to comfort and detail is outstanding - from the cookies in our room to the delicious breakfasts which we chose to eat in our room. We also appreciated the on-site parking and the proximity both to downtown Providence and College Hill. We will definitely return as we think Christopher Dodge is the place to stay in Providence.

Hey, but who is?
The bed was comfortable, rooms clean, bedding more than adequate, and staff was very friendly and helpful.
I spent three nights, but could only partake of the hot breakfast once (breakfast starts at 7:30 am), but it was delicious, and the cook very helpful. The other two days I had the to-go breakfast which was more than enough food, and a nice enough assortment.
Temperature adjustment is by room, and I was able to make it more than comfortable enough. WiFi was fast enough to handle streaming, and the television has more channel options than I find in most hotels (not that I had much time to enjoy either).
Yes, it is near a highway, but the noise isn’t so much that you can’t have a quiet conversation, or get a good night’s sleep (and I’m a light sleeper). Parking was adequate, and I felt safe walking to and from the transit in early morning and after sunset.
I found enough restaurants within walking distance (~1 mile) that I had no problem at dinner time finding someplace good.
I did think it a bit pricey at first, but considering the very high cost of living in the area, and the cost of other hotels nearby, I wasn’t displeased. It was more like staying at home than in a boxy hotel. My only issue is with the cancellation policy, during normal times I understand it, but I do think some extra consideration should have been extended during COVID times when you don’t always have control over cancelling trips. This was a reschedule from an earlier time because the places I was going were shut down.

Your feedback on TripAdvisor is very valuable to us and other travelers. We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us. As we are now 2 years into the pandemic, we believe that our cancellation policy is fairly lenient compared to other hotels. Guests are given 7 days prior to the arrival date to cancel and receive a full refund on their deposit. Outside of that window, we provide a credit for a future stay in the deposited amount if we are unable to resell the canceled room nights. Successfully resold room nights are refunded. You had emailed 3 days prior to your arrival to cancel for a non-covid-related matter. There had been a snowstorm and the trails you planned on hiking were closed. We were only able to resell 1 of your 3 nights and issued a refund and a credit for the remainder. We hope you will join us again soon!

We recently spent a long weekend in a nice big room (G3) on the ground floor and were quite pleased. Everything was clean and well organized both before and during our stay, and all staff we dealt with were friendly and professional. Breakfast was quite good, and the welcome cookies were excellent.
The bizarrely bad April weather on our first couple of days (wind, rain, and even snow) made the gas fireplace and extra heater in the bathroom ceiling more appreciated than we had anticipated. The bathroom is not large but does have a tub and classy modern fixtures.
The location was pretty good for walking. You will have to cross over or under one of the highways to see most things in town, but there are relatively clean and well-maintained sidewalks everywhere, so it’s not too bad. Easy ten minutes from the train station, just a bit more for the bus transit hub in Kennedy Plaza, and there are nearby stops on Smith St. for a couple of bus lines (56 and 57) if you don’t want to walk it.
The nice view of the state house dome across the highway (probably obscured when there is more foliage) meant that, as expected, we could hear a low steady din of traffic noise, but with the windows closed it was barely noticeable and never enough to interrupt our sleep. G3 is right across from the office, so there’s an occasional bit of noise from that side, but nothing terrible.
All in all, the inn was exactly what we were looking for, and we’ll be happy to return the next time we need a little getaway from NYC.

I've stayed in many fine B&B properties over the years and this one is right up there at the top of my list. Their attention to detail, especially during this COVID period, is outstanding. The ambiance is beautiful, gracious and welcoming. Everything from bathroom amenities and towels to bed linens is top quality. The staff is both friendly and accommodating. Parking is on-site or around the corner. The location near the capitol building is in a safe part of town and you can go many places on foot. Breakfast is cooked-to-order and beautifully presented. The price is also very reasonable compared to most Providence lodgings. I wouldn't consider staying anyplace else in the future!

We stayed here last week while visiting Providence. The inn is about 5 minutes from the downtown core and Brown. Very convenient to everything. Staff were very friendly, check in was easy, special care had clearly been taken with cleaning and sanitizing. You take a card to set up your breakfast dining time so that only 2 groups are dining at most at the same time, so there is never spacing concerns. Will definitely stay again once our child begins university.

The large historic house was beautiful! The restoration that had been done had lots of details.
The reception we got was very welcoming.
The room was very, very clean along with the bathroom.
The common room had all sorts of beverages for people to enjoy along with an honor system of snacks. It is refreshing to be somewhere where the honor system is present and people respect it.
The breakfast room was warm and welcoming with very comfortable New England style furnishings
I really love the whole place!
Recommendations for guest is to have earplugs in case you are on the side where the highway is.
Recommendation for the bed and breakfast is to use white linens and cotton blankets on the bed.
There were three different colored linens on the bed and the fabric was difficult to move or shift on.
We left the location that was convenient to the capital.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience, Leah! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the beauty of our historic home, the warm reception, and the thoughtful touches we strive to provide, like the honor system snacks and our inviting breakfast room. We appreciate your feedback regarding the linens. Our sheets were replaced a year ago by the same company we have been using for almost ten years. Our microfiber sheet sets from the Comphy Company are used in B&Bs around the world. We use a color system for our different bed sizes. Your queen room features Silver Blue. The two pillows shown in the photo are the extra pillows we provide in your closet for extra comfort. All the windows of our highway-facing rooms are fitted with acoustic-grade plexiglass soundproofing inserts from Indow. This reduces the need for earplugs. We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Providence. Safe travels and thank you again for staying with us!

This is a lovely three-story brick mansion that's been converted into a charming B&B with about a dozen rooms. The common rooms are luxurious and relaxing and the individual rooms are large and personalized. Some of the rooms look out over Route 95, which can be noisy, though. We also had trouble regulating our heat. Finally, a warning, the stairs are steep for anyone with mobility issues. This would be a perfect place for anyone in town for business at the State House or Brown University. I would definitely return here if I needed a place to stay in the Providence area.

Thank you for staying with us and providing feedback to our future guests. We have 14-rooms that are spread out over 4 floors. Our main staircase at the front of the house is the best option due to the back staircase being steep (we believe it was once the servant staircase as the house was built in 1858). We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return!
