The photos depicted on their website are in no way an accurate representation of what you are getting. The neighborhood is unsafe, there are bullet holes on the exterior (they claim from old electrical wiring - You can decide from the attached photo) and the place was filthy. I've stayed in Hostels and never experienced one as disappointing as this. We immediately left and stayed elsewhere. When trying to discuss the issues we had we received a condescending response from Alina. We were both fully aware that this was a hostel, but that doesn't allow for there to be such extreme discrepancies between their website and reality.
I thoroughly enjoyed my two-day stay here! It's located just a 5 to 10-minute walk west of the State Capitol Building in a quiet area. First of all, and most importantly, THEY HAVE A HOUSE KITTY CAT!! That right there is five-stars for me! LOL! But seriously, the hostel is very cute and clean; the beds and rooms were very well kept. The staff was the best part about it! I wish I could remember her name, but I believe she's Australian or a New Zealander, but she was just marvelous with recommendations and help and made me feel right at home! The kitchen was very well stocked, and they had a huge wall of recommendations of what to do in and around Providence and beyond! They had a laptop for guests, they had books to read, and they had complimentary food. Not mad about that at all! I had a great time! Thank you, Providence Hostel!!…
I really had a great time here at the hostel: the bathrooms and my dorm room as well were super clean, and the atmosphere in general was cozy as I was looking for. The staff has been nice and friendly, they gave me a map and showed me what to see/eat/do in Providence, as well as in other cities. 20 min walk to downtown, close to bus and train station. The managers were always welcoming, and there's also a wonderful cat. 100% recommended for a nice and quiet stay in Providence!
We were greeted very cordially and accompanied to the Guesthouse, which is in a quiet residential part of town 3 blocks from the main hostel. With the parking pass provided we had street parking right outside. This is an older house, with the original painted wood floors, and freshly painted walls and remodeled bathrooms and kitchen. In mid September we were in one of the three rooms upstairs with a centrally located and nearby bathroom with tub and shower. I appreciated having a quiet fan and a window we could open. Very comfortable. There were guests in all the rooms, and everyone was so quiet, a welcome change from the usual hostel situation. The owner and her representative were very gracious; this building had only been open for a short time so they were adding and improving. We had everything we needed.…
The bathrooms & dorm rooms were very clean, as was the kitchen — which offers a high quality water filter (thank you). Good wifi signal on both floors. Feels rather like visiting a friend’s house in the relatively quiet part of town. I was only there one night passing thru, but found the staff to be very warm & welcoming, and quite helpful. A nice fella from Alaska showed us how to use the simple yet unfamiliar Turkish coffee stovetop thang (and there’s instant coffee too — bring yer own cream). Lots of free maps & helpful suggestions all over the place on where to eat, drink & be merry. The cat is super cuddly (its fur owns one of livingroom chairs) nice big windows, massive TV (usually turned off). They have a guitar & banjo 4U to play. Safe & secure, well air conditioned. Not the pretty part of town, but not ugly, either. Only room for 2 cars off-street parking. Irish bar & modest yet well liked cafes in close walking distance, perhaps a 1/2 hour walk to downtown or Little Italy. Some dorm beds felt more comfortable than others. Mine was just fine. Thanks guys!…
This hostel was very nice and clean. I liked the communal livingroom and kitchen, where I met other guests and felt instantly at home. The price was the cheapest I found anywhere in Providence, just $35 for a dorm bed. Very VERY friendly staff. They know how to make you feel welcome.
This is a review for my recent visit where I stayed three nights in Providence. Located less than a mile from the Rhode Island state house, this youth hostel is a very good value if you plan to visit Rhode Island. While a little small, it offers all the amenities you need for a place to stay. Beds are comfortable and restrooms were clean. Best of all, the staff makes it a point to make you feel safe and welcoming in a warm atmosphere. They are very informative and will tell about local events as well as other spots such as restaurants, supermarkets, and even nearby towns. The hostel even has an adorable, friendly cat who loves nothing more than being petted gently. This is also an ideal place to meet and chat with other fellow travellers from the U.S. and around the world. I would come back to this hostel if I were to be in Providence once again in the future.…
I decided to reach out to Jo and Alina who have managed a hostel before in New York and are now the co-managers of Providence hostel. They have a lot of experience in their back pocket that really made me interested in this place. I stayed at Providence hostel as a volunteer as I knew it was close to other major metropolitan cities like ( Boston, New York City, and New Haven). I have always wanted to explore the North East in a much more local perspective, so I thought this was the best way to do it. This is one of the coziest and warmest places I have ever stayed while I am traveling. I ended up meeting some incredible people from all over the world, and heard their stories and made some friends along the way. Providence is a really walkable and calm city while simultaneously being energetic and lively. From the FREE live music, I had a chance to attend to all the uniquely Providence events like the anticipation of the WaterFire festival. The old city with the modern influences really put it up as one of the best places I have been to in a really long time.…
I stayed at the Providence Hostel for about 6 weeks. I was there as a volunteer. Alina & Joe are the lovely ones who run this cozy place. They've created this hostel with all the experiences they've acquired by travelling the world. Personally, I would say that this hostel is the right place to stay if you're travelling around and you want to see the East Coast or if you are attending a conference nearby or even to explore the state of Rhode Island. Moreover, the city of Providence has a lot to offer from its history (with Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence State House) to its culture (many museums and authentic cafés). Providence is 100% worth a visit by staying 2 nights at Providence Hostel which makes it way easier (price, location, easy check-in, advices and nice crew).…
It's a good distance from downtown, totally walkable. The people I encountered volunteering there were friendly and knowledgable. Great advertising of things to do and references about places through their bulletin board where you can offer your insights into favorite places in Providence. I love the cat and love that company. It's great to have a place to prepare meals and sit and eat. It's also very nice that the guest house offers a house computer to use with their WiFi password and a screen that can be hooked into the computer and NetFlix. Overall I had a very nice experience there and it was a good introduction to the town of Providence.
