I booked room 217, the Steven King/The Shining room with ease. The agent was so helpful in making this specific arrangement I want for my son's birthday. She assured me that the specific room would be reserved for him

This property is great! It's old and it is a little tired in some places but it adds to the charm. It is very clean, and perfectly decorated striking a balance of modern amenities with period elegance. The staff was superb and they totally pulled of the haunted hotel thing without being tacky. It's a must if you're in the area and it might even be worth a special trip. We took the night tour (for hotel guests only) and heard about history -- and the ghost stories from a highly-engaged and entertaining guide. (And yes-- I think I did had my first ghost experience later that night.) Or at least it could have been? :) We also went to Aiden Sinclair's Illusions of the Passed show. It was inside but carefully socially distanced and we all wore face coverings. The show was fabulous! One of the best "magic" show I have ever been to. Magic show sounds kind of cheesy. It wasn't at all-- it was more like a historically appropriate mock seance. It's a must. The only draw back I can think of at the hotel was it didn't have a pool. It was unusually hot when we were there, so we would have enjoyed that. But we got over it quickly since there were a lot of other things to do.

Room Tip: The 4th floor is where the paranormal activity is- but low/slanted ceilings in the bedrooms.

There were several issues over the five nights (Rm. 417) that made the stay less than satisfactory, though the biggest is that there was an issue with the shower (too hot or too cold. No in between). I went to the front desk twice on two different days (Day 2 & 3) to have them look/fix the problem. They did not show up either time to address the issue. I did not bother asking a third time! Other issues included lights burned out in the only elevator, making it impossible to see the buttons for the floor. We had to use our cell phone for light. On the third day they “fixed” the light issue and that is when we saw they only had temporary lights – such as you would have under your kitchen cabinets – stuck to ceiling of the elevator. The original light was still there but they must have felt this was cheaper/easier to fix. There were also missing ceiling tiles on the 4th floor and missing attic access door near the elevator on the 4th floor. There were no signs indicating they were currently doing work. This looked like this the entire time we were there. And finally, the service at the hotel restaurant was poor. They did not bring everything we ordered (we let it go), forgot other items, which we had to ask for again and overall provided poor service. At over $300 a night the value is not there! The experience was disappointing.

Since I was 16 I dreamed of staying at the Stanley Hotel. This was to be that week. I can say as an experienced Traveler, this was a RAGING disappointment on MANY fronts. Price was NOT worth $400./ night . Rooms were dark and not adequately clean, Service was non existent and that is with the understanding of Covid implications. Front desk WHEN STAFFED which was minimally, had people who had just taken the job and didn't know either the hotel or services. Was sent to three different locations to check in. The walls and ceilings paper thin.. could hear everything all night. Called 4 times to request help to investigate screaming child next door who had been screaming for HOURS. 6Pm until 2 AM and NO one to answer the phone after 9. I tried calling 4 different locations within the resort. VERY VERY under impressed with everything. Found fecal stain on comforter as I removed duvet. Sofa had stains, carpet had stains, NO windows in bedroom, noisy construction work on road outside our window the entire time. Deck area was dirty, 1 chair on deck and when I requested additional chair it was not provided. The type of service I would not expect from a Low cost motel .

Probably one of the most beautiful hotels there is. Sadly it is being mismanaged like no other I have seen. Almost too many negatives to mention here but suffice to say we spoke with other guests who shared my feelings to the exact level! Staff was pretty much non accommodating and just not friendly overall. There were a few that were putting the effort in but it shows just how poorly this place is managed by the overall attitudes of the staff. We were really looking forward to our stay here but just a huge disappointment. Room was dirty the lobby needed dusting, the carpet looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks. Literally there were small items of “stuff” on the staircase and in the halls. One of the guests told me he found moldy cheese in the drawer of the dresser. He also said his hot tub was filled with dirty water upon arrival. I just don’t understand how this place can look the way it does (beautiful) charge premium pricing and yet it feels like a cheap motel. I would steer clear of this place until things turn around, if they ever do?
