The hotel is poorly run despite the beautiful area and central location. I was scheduled to stay 4 days November 10-14 and selected a 1 bedroom Condo (Overlook 349) on the property. It was a $400/night suite that appeared perfect for the stay. The living room and kitchen were fine and comfortable. The bedroom would not heat higher than 65 degrees. The bathroom was heatless with a stone floor. We spoke with the front desk the next morning and were told we could move to a newer condo in the Aspire Condo which was smaller but more modern. They were busy at the time so I told them we would get the key after lunch and they appreciated that. When we returned, the story was that there weren't any availability for the next 3 nights so we could use Overlook 345 (a 2 bedroom, which we didn't need) for the next 3 days. Before we moved our belongings, we took a look at the condo and we were greeted by a large spider which made my wife uncomfortable so back to the front desk we went. We then were moved to Aspire 303 (shortened our stay for 3 days) which was better. Unfortunately, because of the high winds a recurring banging through the vent in the bathroom occurred each night and sleep deprivation was the result. I spent over $1300 for this.... I would not have stayed if I had read trip advisor more carefully before I booked.

We stayed in room 413 for 4 nights. The hotel itself is historic and lovely.. it does not have modern amenities(swimming pools etc), what it does have is an interesting history. The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable. On the first day, the resident ghost made his presence known. We also experienced the walking on the roof, and the sound of people walking in the hallway late at night when all were sleeping. For those ghosthunters, this hotel is well worth the visit. You can guarantee that you will meet someone of the residents who are no Ionger living. I give the stanley hotel 5 stars for elegance with a paranormal twist!

2 years ago my husband and I planned to go to the Stanley and stay in room 217 on Dec. 31, 2021. In January of 2021 I made reservations. I confirmed reservations for that room on October 25, then on Nov. 9, 2021(50 days before my stay) they email me to say that room is being remodeled. They have moved me to another room. Didn’t offer me free drinks, free ghost tour.., just sorry. I asked to stay in one of the other Spirited rooms— sorry they are booked but they will let me know if one opens up. I noticed the cost of the room has increased too. I just caught that so they have not responded to my email. Yes, I plan to still go because I have other things planned and paid for while I’m out there for our 30th anniversary. I visit Estes Park 1-2 times a year and always stop to see what’s happening at the Stanley. The one time I have major plans boom.

This was a perfect example of the bad reviews being the truth and not just overly-demanding guests! The Stanley is not worth the rates they charge. As mentioned in myriad other reviews, it is nothing but a cash grab from unscrupulous owners. The rooms are in terrible condition. They apparently have not been renovated in ages (even considering the limitations on updates possible within a historic building) or even properly maintained. That could almost be overlooked IF there were some elements to make up for the lack of decent maintenance, but service was so lacking it was almost painful. The only pleasant staff we encountered were a building engineer and housekeeping staff. The Stanley seems to care far less about paying guests than the throngs of tourists parading throughout not just the hotel grounds, but the hotel itself. It was so overrun with tourists for the ungodly amount of tours offered daily that it was impossible for paying guests to actually enjoy a stay. This negatively impacted everything from parking, enjoying the hotel's front porch, eating at the hotel restaurant, and even just getting some tranquility in what should be an idyllic setting. When those paying $10 to park and run rampant are treated as more valued than the guests paying over $300/night, there is a HUGE problem that needs to be addressed. I would not recommend a stay at The Stanley to an enemy, let alone anyone I actually liked.

We stayed for one night, thank God! It is so overpriced! The food was TERRIBLE! The service at the Whiskey Bar was TERRIBLE! It is beautiful there and thankfully our room had a view, but is not worth the money at all. There are plenty of other places to stay in Estes that are more worth your money!
