Beyond in need of repair. not worth the money. Had a king room with a view. Everything was old. Shower never got hot. Set up in room was awkward. The lamps next to the bed were old and didn't adequately work. The only positive was the mattress and bedding were new. But overall Just a really bad experience.

As a resident of CO since 1972, I've visited The Stanley and have stayed previously. So my wife and I were pretty excited when we chose to make this the final night of our first trip since the March 2020 lockdown. Perhaps we'd have been happier if our expectations were lower. We found our room dingy, and the lack of cleanliness stood out markedly from other hotels we stayed at on this trip. The valve in the shower was installed upside down, so the water got cooler as the knob was turned farther on. I settled for a lukewarm shower, as turning the knob to full hot meant turning it almost off, and there wasn't enough water pressure to flow from the diverter valve to the shower head at that setting. Ours must have been a smoking room at one time; the embedded stale smoke smell put us off. (The only solution is replacing all the textiles...not likely affordable for The Stanley these days.) We were looking forward to a cocktail at The Whiskey Bar and dismayed when the host told us it would be impossible to serve us because the point of sale system had crashed. I pointed out that with pen and paper, I could calculate the full cost of drinks, including tax, as I did attend elementary school (plus have a calculator app on my phone). The manager intervened, and we were allowed to pay cash! Dinner at The Cascades was disappointing. My Old Fashioned was more simple syrup than bourbon, but they did charge $20 for it. My wife's prosecco was flat, and the meatloaf she ordered would have been fine with 75% less salt. The coffee was room temperature, and the "bananas foster" was artificially flavored banana custard with pecans on top. Friends, I understand how hard it is to be in the hospitality business these days. It's not just finding staff; it's also finding leadership that motivates people to care about the guest experience. At these rates, The Stanley could do a lot better. I hope they do, but sadly, I won't ever visit again to find out.

Our wedding was one month out as of last weekend, and they called to basically cancel. They said they had to go down to 40 people or cancel us due to Larimer County Covid restrictions. We called and spoke to Larimer County Health Dept. ourselves and have verbal AND written confirmation that The Stanley Hotel is not restricted by the county. They also told our coordinator that they will be cancelling weddings thru the end of July. We had to fight like hell to get our refund back. The lack of communication at this place is atrocious. They will hold your money, and then not answer calls or emails. My fiance had to drive up there and sit in the lobby for four hours until they finally got us our money back. And not only are they lying about their reasoning for cancelling, they said that they had us down for a total of 50 guests originally, when we actually had 85 guests... and they had our wrong date at one point too. We also have gone through about 4 different coordinators while there because of their issues with staffing. From talking with other places in town as well as the county, we have heard over and over that The Stanley has been having issues for years, that they can't keep staff on because it is so poorly run. The people there just do not care. We were nothing but polite the whole time we have had our wedding scheduled here, and still get awful customer service from the staff and treated like you are a burden. The staff are all unhappy, unhelpful, rude and could not care less about ruining people's big day and leaving them and their guests scrambling. I could go on and on about how awful they are but these reviews are going to speak for themselves. It's upsetting because this venue has so many special meanings to us and our family. The Stanley may try to make you sign a release as well when giving back your money because they know they are in hot water with people and don't want to get sued. Don't sign it is the advice we got from a lawyer ;)

Sad to see the majestic Stanley so poorly managed, this was a different hotel all together than I visited 10 years ago. The beautiful lawn out front had been replaced by a sort of garden maze with shoddy landscaping and half dead bushes. The plants used were the wrong type. Hotel dirty and poorly staffed although I hope the decline was only due to covid 19. I won't be back.

My wife and I travel quite a bit and this was our third time in Estes Park so we decided to stay at the Stanley. I have no complaints on the service except you would think a 300 dollar per night hotel would have a bellman to assist with luggage? We stayed on the second floor and there were constant tours from 10 am until 5 pm right outside our door. We asked to be moved to another room and they were going to do that but assured us the tours need at 5 which they did. This was extremely annoying however. The door to the bathroom looked like termites had eaten through it and it was just really old. I understand the need to maintain history, but routine maintenance was very lacking.
