We stayed in room 411 which was small but nice. The front desk staff were friendly as were the bar and wait staff. John, our tour guide for the hotel was new but did a good job. Our one bad experience was the house keeping staff. They were rude, unprofessional, and seemed to think the State of Colorado (and hotel) mask requirement didn’t apply to them. We routinely encountered 4 cleaning staff during our stay (that was odd in and of itself as cleaning staff are using our of site, out of mind). Two of the female employees wore no face mask, the third wore theirs under their chin and would sometimes pull it up when someone walked by. The boy was always wearing his. The cleaning staff would often sit on the spiral stairs on the odd number wing forcing us and others to walk around them. They would also throw bags of laundry down from the 4th floor to the 2nd floor - even while a tour was being done on the second floor and the bags landing feet away from guests. Finally, we overheard cleaning staff grumbling about guests who had asked for their room to be cleaned again (apparently floor in bathroom was dirty upon arrival).

One of, if not the worst experience, I’ve ever had at a property. I understand the impact of Covid and I believe I am very reasonable. The short of it is it appears they are booking to full capacity but staffing far below the level needed to care for their guests. Dozens of calls with. I answers or call backs, restaurant online reservations system down but told us they would not take reservations by phone or in person, because they are to busy, couldn’t get bedding for our kids, even though I walked from the Aspire up to the main hotel and spoke to a lady directly. No one staffs after 6 pm at Aspire. The room looked as if it had not been cleaned. We found burned bacon in the microwave and can’t describe what was under the pullout. Air conditioning did not work and after a 5 am promise that all our concerns would be addressed we returned to the hotel at 3:30 pm to have nothing taken care of and after pushing to get engineering in ASAP to look at the unit we were told they could not fix it. We were offered another unit but they couldn’t tell us if the AC worked in it so we checked and it would also not turn on. Some of the staff were apologetic and felt bad that everything was so difficult and that they did. It have the staff to help while others, Bell specifically, was very defensive and no help. We are still waiting for the call from the hotel manager. Imagine that is not coming either...I could keep going but will simply say it’s probably best to find another place to stay until staffing and management issues have been taken care of.

This hotel has good beautiful bones. Fascinating history and spectacular views. But it falls significantly short of a 4 or 5 star rating. I know with COVID that things can be difficult, people are making more on unemployment than working in some cases so that may be some of the issues for the staff. I feel they are doing the best they can but it falls way short of acceptable. See photo of behind the bed when I went to plug my phone in. The room was dirty. Looked as if it had not been vacuumed in weeks. The phone to call house keeping didn’t work and the bathroom is close to what a hostel would look like. With exposed old phone brackets mildewed gross grout and motel 6 shower curtain. After check in I attempted to let them know at front desk and the line was out the door. So I went to dinner returned and showed picture. They were very apologetic and asked if they could send housekeeping while we were on ghost tour. Upon getting in from ghost tour it still wasn’t cleaned. By this time we had been up over 24 hours and just crashed. I did bring it to the attention of front desk before check out, again they were apologetic I feel bad for the staff not their fault. I’m not the speak to the manager demand a refund kind of person. I love old historical beautiful places. This one unique and beautiful but without the help of a Marriott or Hilton it’s not gonna make it. Save your money on the room. Visit the beautiful buildings and take the ghost tour. Maybe just maybe they can turn it around.

What a horrible experience. Poorly maintained facility, trash In the room curtains were falling down. The elevator was broken, certainly not ADA accessible. Limited dining area. Parts of the hotel is closed. It’s very clear this hotel is hanging on to “The Shining” as their hook with little capital investment. Past reviews confirm this is a dump with poor service and just plain dirty. Not worth $100 let alone $300. What a shame.

The facilities were excellent! Very nice room amenities with good air conditioner. I enjoyed the daily happy hour with complementary foods. We enjoyed it almost daily. The staff was excellent in all spaces.
