We have spent a lot of time in the Crescent City area over the years as my husband has family in the area and we visit as often as we can. We get there about once every five years these days. Usually, we stayed with family or at a beach motel. This year, with a family reunion at a campground... More

Outstanding bed and breakfast in the heart of the Redwoods. Kurt and Meg were great hosts. Helpful tips. Hearty, delicious breakfasts made with local ingredients-loved the muffins. Room was spacious, clean and we enjoyed coffee on our deck each morning with a view of the Smith River and a covered bridge. Sigh! Relaxing in the hot tub and wading in the... More

My wife & I spent a couple of wonderful nights at BnB Hiouchi this June. Beautiful home in a beautiful setting; Curt & Meg were wonderful hosts. Great food and conversation--stayed up one evening sharing wine and snacks. Really nice dog Molly. Curt is well informed about trails in the area. Heartily recommend this place! Thanks Cut & Meg, Grace... More

Ok, I'm not sure if I'm more shocked by the beauty of the location or the architecture of the house or the fact that 3 years ago a single reviewer only rated this amazing B&B 4 stars and not 5! Personally I think a great B&B needs location, facilities, and a restful spirit that only comes from owners who understand... More

A perfect place for some R&R! Curt and Meg were fantastic hosts - warm, flexible, and accommodating. The home-cooked breakfasts in the mornings were exceptional - eggs, mushrooms, juice, amazing pineapple coconut muffins, yogurt, toast. Curt was also extremely helpful in providing personalized hiking itineraries and travel advice for future adventures. The cabin itself is located right on the banks... More

On a hiking-focused road trip from Portland to San Francisco, Hiouchi seemed like an interesting stop. It turned out to be one of the most beautiful places on the whole trip. We stayed for one night, the week before Thanksgiving. Curt sent impeccable directions, we picked up a picnic for dinner and arrived around 7pm. The house has bookish 1970s... More

Curt and Meg seem to anticipate your every need. They are warm, friendly, supremely helpful, but never intrusive. Curt must have told people about the many redwood hikes a thousand times, yet he patiently showed us where the best hikes for our ability could be found and provided us with helpful maps. Curt is also a master of muffins, a... More

You have to visit B&B Hiouchi to understand how perfect it is. It is located on the banks of the Smith River and is unbelievably spacious. It is thoughtfully decorated and the hosts, Curt and Meg, are delightful and very helpful. They provided us with maps and advice to make sure we saw the best of the Redwoods. It must... More

A delightful getaway in the far northern reaches of California. Curt & Meg run probably the coolest BNB in the lower 48 (and I'm not a BNB type of guy, believe me) right on the untamed Smith River, and just minutes away from outstanding redwood forest hiking trails, or locally guided salmon/steelhead fishing when they're running. Good food (best scrambled... More
