If you want to feel safe and have a high quality room, bed and breakfast in downtown Historic Petersburg; Ragland Mansion with Ernest as your host and breakfast cook is a great option at a reasonable value. This B&B was recommended to us by a relative and long-time resident of Petersburg. If you are visiting historic sites in Petersburg, stay... More

our host was friendly, knowledgeable and added much to our visit. The house is old but very clean and well-furnished. Breakfast was hot and delicious. The owner was very accessible and took the time to visit with everyone. We plan a return visit next year.

We stayed at the mansion and what a wonderful experience it was. Many original details of the mansion still exist. The crown moldings, Italian marble fireplaces, spiral staircase three floors wow!!!! The vestibule and mosaic tiles so beautiful. Loved the gardens and the great value of the room for the price. Highly recommended will be back.

The only part of the stay that was worth the nightly rate was visiting with Ernest. The mansion needs an incredible amount of work: the parking was inadequate, the rooms look shabby, the whole house looks "drained". Ernest, however, provided simulating conversation and a wonderful breakfast. This old mansion could be so much better. It is truly a shame. Also... More

My husband and I were in Petersburg visiting some historic battlefields, five forks battlefield and Pamplin Historical Park. The innkeeper, Ernest, was very nice and attentive. The home is very old and I am sure in it glory days was a beautiful home. Petersburg had little to offer but the battlefields, a lot of the businesses in town were closed... More

My wife and I spent two nights here and were very please with all aspect of our stay. Our room was on the first floor and was roomy and well equipped. We were also allowed to tour the whole home and were able to use the sitting rooms and parlors as we desired. Coffee and tea were always available, though... More

My husband and I wanted to visit some of the history of Petersburg and stayed at the Ragland Mansion just on an impromptu weekend. We were greeted by a friendly face, Ernest who spent some time talking with us about our plans and provided us with a printout for a Civil War demonstration and provided several great suggestions for places... The mansion is beautiful and the accommodations were excellent. The house itself could use some tender loving care but, when one considers the cost of maintaining a home of that size and age, the simple fact that it is being preserved is exciting. Ernest made the stay wonderful, he went out of his way to help in anyway he could.... More

We were uncertain when we arrived, but the caretaker did in fact take care of us. Probably your best shot in Petersburg for overnight accommodation. And hey, Joseph Cotton lived here.

We stopped over for the night and stayed over mid week. The mansion was spacious with beautiful furniture. The caretaker was nice and friendly. Our room had everything you needed and compared to other B&B's that we stayed in, it was more then enough space. The price was right and we had a nice stay. We did notice in a... More
