I do not care what others may have written about the Econo Lodge Downtown SLC, but I've just recently stayed there for 8 days for a convention and here are the most recent facts about this so-called accommodation. Cons: #1 – When you check-in at the main desk, even if you have booked a reservation online at that location, they will put a safety deposit on your credit card, just in case you would intentionally leave the room in a worst than when you first walked in. #2 – Those magnetic cards kept getting demagnetized even after a day or two. I total, we went back to the main lobby 9 times in 8 days to get them reactivated. What a pain and a waste of OUR time. IMPORTANT: Every time that we had to go to the main desk to get the cards reactivated, not a single time did they ask us for any ID card. Which means, THEY DO NOT CARE WHO COMES IN WITH ANY OF THEIR MOTEL CARD. THEY WILL RE-ACTIVE THEM WITHOUT CHALLENGING THE PERSON FOR IDENTITY. So, anyone who finds a motel card in the parking lot or who has previously stayed at the motel, or grabs one from the drop-in window box in the main entrance, can get access to any room of his choice, by going to the front desk an saying: Any “customer”: “Excuse-me, my card doesn’t work!” Any clerk: “Which room is it?” Any “customer”: “Room #205” Machine: Slick! Any clerk: “There you go!” And you’re all set to access room 205 or any room anyone would ask for. No ID check what so ever !! #3 – All ice machines on location were out of order without any backup service. #4 – The shower head is barely at 5 ft high. Which means, you must bend down to wash your hair every time. #5 - Some room numbers are missing on the doors. #6 – Towels and shower mats ARE NOT always cleaned even if they changed yours. Check for long hair (belonging to somebody else) or suspicious things on your linen and shower mat. #7 – Paint could use some TLC. Greasy stains, hair, and/or else is visible on the walls and ceiling. #8 – The chrome of the taps never gets cleaned. God know what got splashed on there. #9 – We had to lift the bathroom door in order to be able to close it properly. #10 – The bathroom ceiling fan and the heater didn’t work. #11 – They use old spiral fluo-compact light bulbs throughout the room. The ones that are fire starter prone. Not recommended by any fire department inspector in Canada that’s for sure. #12 – Don’t even think about squeezing, ever so lightly, their cheap plastic disposable glasses because you WILL make a mess. They crack way too easily. #13 – We had a broken drawer handle that ahs never been fixed. #14 – The carpet has never been vacuum cleaned during our 7 nights. #15 – The TV works by appointment only. You get so fed up trying to make it to work that you find something else to do instead. Ooh and they still use analog signal, no HD there. LOL #16 – The WIFI works erratically. Good luck trying to get a good signal. Any charger/ power supply to charge a cell phone kept falling off the wall outlets by the nightstands. #17- Would recommend venturing in the neighborhood at night by yourself. #18 – The motel shuttle runs whenever they feel like it and certainly not at the wee hours when you need to catch a flight in early morning! #19 – The temperature of the pool water is way to warm. It feels like a hot tub with no bubble. One needs to dive in and to get out of the pool to cool themselves off. Way to warm. #20 – And suspicious activities could be seen from an end room, with a massage table set in plain sight, 2 guys watching and waiting and cars coming and going at any time of night. Pros: - Very well lit outside (LED light bulbs) - The motel is 10 min walk from the Vivint arena. - Rancho Market (Latino grocery store) 6 min away from the motel.

We made reservation through Booking.com. We stayed one night in September, 2019. The room is filthy , smells so bad, urine mixed with smoke , and mold. The carpet was very dirty, the only chair in the room is dirty beyond believing. I never stay in such a bad hotel before. And it costed $79.00 plus $100 deposit, which may be refundable. Don't be deceived by the photos, it's nothing near the actual condition. The only reason I reserved this hotel is its location. It nears downtown.

· Very run down, carpet was worn out, bedding had several cigarette burn marks on it, tv was old with lines across screen, tv remote had no back cover so batteries kept popping out only after I had to get new ones since at first it didn’t work at all, couldn’t call front desk because phone had no button on it they had all been pulled out had to walk to front desk and request new one, ac unit was super load, no elevators to get to second floor rooms, fridge didn’t work. Didn’t feel safe going outside especially at night, there were homeless people everywhere many of which were very much on drugs (I was told that they have a huge heroine problem in this area). The advertise premium WiFi, in 4 days we were never able to get logged into it. Day 2 room key quit working.

This place is horrible. I’m not sure what we were thinking making a reservation there. It’s filthy. Cigarette butts all over the place, 1 towel for 2 people, stained sheets, dried, wadded piece of tissue stuck over peep hole on door, toilet wouldn’t flush, lampshades were torn, and just dirty. I’d give it negative stars if I could. We didn’t even unpack.
