My wife and I had a spectacular experience! The house was fun, beautiful, & peaceful. The room we had was very clean! Breakfast was perfect along with the service provided! We are looking forward to coming back very soon! My only suggestion is to have a pamphlet in the rooms of the history of the manor for everyone to enjoy. The big binder on the lobby was great but I didn't have sufficient time to go through all of it.

Property's Favorite Review
This is the 2nd time we have stayed at The Inn on the Hill and we loved it!!! Such a lovely historic home built in 1906 in the Second Revival Style. Staying at the Inn on the Hill is like having a luxurious retreat. The home is kept in pristine condition and it is such a relaxing place to stay. The interiors are true to the period and very luscious. Spacious elegant guest rooms. We also love the location because it is within walking distance of downtown Salt Lake City for dining and shopping. Breakfast is included with the room and it was delicious! We got to order from a menu of quite good varied selections. The plates were adorned with fun garnishes and we enjoyed dining in the formal dining room. So fun! I forgot something but didn't realize I had left a purchase behind in our room. The Inn called me the afternoon we left and said they would ship it to me! That is going above and beyond. Great customer service! We will definitely be back! :-)

Overall and average stay. Room was OK. Not really a B&B experience as there was no host. We were notified a day before our arrival, via email, that the house has active construction and we would have to use a lot they own at a different street behind the house and walk across the lawn with our luggage. Clearly this was an ongoing project and it was not mentioned any place on their website. We arrived on a Sat. night and no work was going on --- however --- Monday morning they crews started in about 9:00 a.m. This is a great location to visit the Capitol from and an easy walk to the CBD.

We stayed in the Wasatch Mountain room which had a shared balcony. This had a great view of downtown and a table and chairs too. Excellent. Room was a good size, although several of the AC outlets didn't work. Check in wasn't the best. Not a particularly friendly greeting, quite charmless in fact. Breakfast was better with more charming staff and a decent spread. THe property originally had a big garden but it seems that half of it has been removed now with construction of garages which is a shame. Location is great with the capitol building being round the corner and downtown just down the hill.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review! We always appreciate getting honest feedback so that we can keep improving! We're sorry for the issues with the outlets in your room, due to the age of the house certain outlets need to be repaired more frequently than others. We're also sorry to hear about your check-in process! We always try our best to greet guests with a warm and inviting attitude so I'm sorry that was not your experience! We're glad you enjoyed your stay overall and we hope you'll stay with us again so we can do even better the next time! Thank you again for the kind words and the critiques! We've stayed here several times and it never disappoints! We love the quiet and seclusion but close to downtown. The grounds are serene and well kept and the breakfast is made to order. We stay in a different room each time and it is very romantic. Love this place!!

Nice quality bedding, and that is the one good aspect of the facility. During a four night stay, we were never greeted by a manager or owner. We have stayed in many lovely B&Bs and hotels in this country and abroad, so I have abundant experience for comparison…even with another 1905 house of similar architecture. Inn on the Hill is literally dark, to the point of making the stairs treacherous, and there isn’t a decent reading lamp to be found. Very oddly, there was no daily metropolitan newspaper. Likewise, no guidance for restaurants, museums, or other local attractions. The atmosphere was cold and impersonal; not a single homey touch.

Hello Joan and Tom, We are so sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us! We strive to give each of our guests a unique and comfortable experience and we are saddened to learn that our establishment was not up to your standards. We’d like to take the time to address some of your critiques and concerns. We’re sorry you weren’t made aware of who was or was not management. Unfortunately, our nametags don’t say our positions on them, and in an attempt to make the inn feel like a home rather than a business, we aren’t in the habit of telling people our positions unless asked. It was actually the Kitchen Manager who carried your luggage from your room to your car, the Assistant Manager who served you breakfast on two different days, and the Manager who recommended one of the restaurants you ended up going to for dinner. We also apologize for the lighting of the inn! We try to maintain an authentic environment, as the house was built in 1906, by avoiding using any large or fluorescent lights, but the safety of guests is our top priority. We have been working on a way to light the main staircase adequately without creating a harsh, overly modern atmosphere. Thank you for letting us know the severity of the problem and we hope to have the issue remedied soon. As for the newspapers, due to issues with the mail service, we don’t always get the most recent newspaper on time. We do put them out on a table in the lounging area when they arrive but we’re sorry if you didn’t see them or if we didn’t receive any during your stay. We also have a display case containing pamphlets for different attractions in Salt Lake City and the state in general, as well as a map of the downtown area on the check-in desk, and one of your servers, Eileen, did recommend you visit Antelope Island. Again, we’re sorry that you didn’t find the resources we have in place adequate. Lastly, we are so sorry that you found the atmosphere cold and impersonal. We want every guest to feel relaxed and at home here. Once guests are in their room we do our best to give people their privacy and we’re sorry if this made you feel neglected. When guests are out and about we always try to greet them and check in to see if there’s anything we can do for them and we’re sorry if it didn’t seem like we were available to you. The inn itself is decorated in a way that honors the period it was built and we’re sorry if the décor was uninviting or contributed to the problem. Again, we are so sorry you had a bad experience with us! We’ll take what you’ve said in this review and do our best to resolve these issues for future guests. Thank you, Inn On the Hill Team

The Inn on the Hill was just perfect for my partner and me. We stayed five nights. We were in SLC for a concert and to do some hiking. It was wonderful to come "home" at the end of the day to such a gorgeous and comfortable inn. We stayed in the carriage house because we like a bit more space. It's charming. The bed and linens are top quality. The huge tub was heaven for soaking after an active day. We were comfortable and slept well every night. The daily breakfast was always delicious! We very much appreciated little touches such as fresh cookies and unlimited bottled water. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location of the inn is ideal. We were able to walk to restaurants and the concert venue. We did rent a car because we knew we'd want to do some hiking and other sightseeing. We appreciated having convenient off-street parking. If we return to Salt Lake City, we will certainly stay here.

We chose to stay at this lovely bed and breakfast instead of a downtown hotel to avoid the parking and resort fees of city chain hotels. This place was beautiful with warm fires in the common and breakfast room. Staff is friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious. We played pool in the billiard room and enjoyed complimentary snacks and drinks. neighborhood is clean and safe and walkable to most of downtown and capital area. This was a far better choice than any downtown hotel.

It's rare that I decide to fill some of my vacation time by staying in to enjoy my hotel room but the Inn on the Hill was just so inviting that I did just that. It wasn't merely a decent place to sleep and grab breakfast on the go but rather, a highlight of my trip and somewhere I'd choose to grab breakfast as a foodie even if I wasn't staying there. The lobby is filled with Victorian charm and the hearth of multiple fireplaces. Snacks, including baked cookies, abound throughout the day, chocolates from a local vendor are resting on your bed to welcome you, and each room has its unique charm. The breakfast is a scrumptious feast with a rotating menu which cuts down on your lunch costs and is served in their idyllic dining room: juice, coffee/tea with homemade syrups, oatmeal or yogurt, fruit, breakfast meat, and an entree (I opted for their sugar-coated french toast with whipped cream cheese and various fruit toppings and was blown away by the restaurant-level quality). I stayed in Zion for three of my four nights and was taken by the mountain view, fireplace, large jetted tub, and comfy bedding. For my last night, I moved into the Kodachrome room meant for a solo travel due to its smaller size. Unlike Zion, this room let in the outside traffic noise which fortunately lessoned at night and the jets on the tub didn't seem to work so the lower rate makes sense. I probably wouldn't have been compelled to spend a lazy morning in this room as I did in Zion but, I wouldn't be opposed to booking it again if it meant getting to return to this charming inn. One thing of note is that this inn is indeed on a hill as the name suggests so if you're walking with luggage coming from a place of lower altitude as I was, prepare for some huffing and puffing. Generally speaking, the inn is walking distance from the main attractions but expect longer walk times to certain parts of the city as a few blocks in Salt Lake City can easily take twenty minutes at least to traverse. Additionally, once you get to the inn, I don't see how you avoid stairs both to the multiple entree ways but also to the rooms which are entirely on the top floor or basement level with breakfast on the main floor so accessibility may be challenging. That being said, the staff helped carry my bags up to my room (did I mention the huffing and puffing?) and was very friendly. I do agree with reviews below about this being more an inn with complimentary breakfast than a B and B and was surprised that the staff didn't have a lot of guidance on getting to ski resorts or tips for local attractions but that was the only "downside." If you find yourself in Salt Lake City, treat yourself to a night at this welcoming property.
