This is the 2nd time we have stayed at The Inn on the Hill and we loved it!!! Such a lovely historic home built in 1906 in the Second Revival Style. Staying at the Inn on the Hill is like having a luxurious retreat. The home is kept in pristine condition and it is such a relaxing place to stay. The interiors are true to the period and very luscious. Spacious elegant guest rooms. We also love the location because it is within walking distance of downtown Salt Lake City for dining and shopping.
Breakfast is included with the room and it was delicious! We got to order from a menu of quite good varied selections. The plates were adorned with fun garnishes and we enjoyed dining in the formal dining room. So fun!
I forgot something but didn't realize I had left a purchase behind in our room. The Inn called me the afternoon we left and said they would ship it to me! That is going above and beyond. Great customer service!
We will definitely be back! :-)

It's rare that I decide to fill some of my vacation time by staying in to enjoy my hotel room but the Inn on the Hill was just so inviting that I did just that. It wasn't merely a decent place to sleep and grab breakfast on the go but rather, a highlight of my trip and somewhere I'd choose to grab breakfast as a foodie even if I wasn't staying there. The lobby is filled with Victorian charm and the hearth of multiple fireplaces. Snacks, including baked cookies, abound throughout the day, chocolates from a local vendor are resting on your bed to welcome you, and each room has its unique charm. The breakfast is a scrumptious feast with a rotating menu which cuts down on your lunch costs and is served in their idyllic dining room: juice, coffee/tea with homemade syrups, oatmeal or yogurt, fruit, breakfast meat, and an entree (I opted for their sugar-coated french toast with whipped cream cheese and various fruit toppings and was blown away by the restaurant-level quality).
I stayed in Zion for three of my four nights and was taken by the mountain view, fireplace, large jetted tub, and comfy bedding. For my last night, I moved into the Kodachrome room meant for a solo travel due to its smaller size. Unlike Zion, this room let in the outside traffic noise which fortunately lessoned at night and the jets on the tub didn't seem to work so the lower rate makes sense. I probably wouldn't have been compelled to spend a lazy morning in this room as I did in Zion but, I wouldn't be opposed to booking it again if it meant getting to return to this charming inn.
One thing of note is that this inn is indeed on a hill as the name suggests so if you're walking with luggage coming from a place of lower altitude as I was, prepare for some huffing and puffing. Generally speaking, the inn is walking distance from the main attractions but expect longer walk times to certain parts of the city as a few blocks in Salt Lake City can easily take twenty minutes at least to traverse. Additionally, once you get to the inn, I don't see how you avoid stairs both to the multiple entree ways but also to the rooms which are entirely on the top floor or basement level with breakfast on the main floor so accessibility may be challenging. That being said, the staff helped carry my bags up to my room (did I mention the huffing and puffing?) and was very friendly. I do agree with reviews below about this being more an inn with complimentary breakfast than a B and B and was surprised that the staff didn't have a lot of guidance on getting to ski resorts or tips for local attractions but that was the only "downside."
If you find yourself in Salt Lake City, treat yourself to a night at this welcoming property.

This is an excellent choice for a stay in Salt Lake City. There are so many chain hotels with little rectangular boxes to wake up in, or you could stay in this beatifully restored home, with beautiful rooms , and a personalised welcome. It is excellently sited for a tourist, 10 minutes walk up the hill to the fantastic Utah State Capitol building and 10 minutes down the hill to Temple and Downtown. Everything about our stay here was terrific and truly memorable. I'll just mention that aircon was fine, wifi worked, bed was comfortable, and complimentary coffee always available. Free parking. Terrific. Do stay.

I spent three nights at the Inn with my travelling companion before we drove North to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. I cannot say enough about what a wonderful experience it was. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The Mansion itself is well-kept and obviously well-loved. The breakfast selection was varied and the quality of the food was excellent. There were fridges with bottles of water and soft drinks as well as snack baskets on each floor of the Mansion. We felt completely at home. The location is convenient to downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods offer good dining selections. (We really enjoyed the Arlo Restaurant.) We stayed in Topaz Mountain, which is on the third floor. It is a great room for two women travelling together as there is a separate space with a daybed in it. As the room is on the top floor, it is under the eaves of the roof and the ceiling above the king bed is slanted. I am 5'7" inches tall and found that I had to be careful to stoop a bit when walking near the sides of the bed. Also, bear in mind that there is no elevator. There are two parking areas, the lower one and an upper one. The upper one is on the street behind the Inn, and is the one we used as it brings you in to the main floor and eliminates one flight of stairs. As it was, we did have to carry our bags up two flights to get to our room. (The young woman who checked us in did help us.) I would absolutely recommend this Inn!

To celebrate a special birthday, we stayed in the Saltair room. With the 4-poster bed, fireplace, gorgeous jetted tub, and paying a little extra for the romance package (candles everywhere), we had an unforgettable stay at Inn on the Hill. The inn is in a great location near the capitol building and within easy access to gorgeous restaurants in downtown Salt Lake City. Being served breakfast in bed was such a special treat. I highly recommend a stay in this lovely place.

A historic building - a little dark inside, but very authentic and beautifully decorated. The choice at breakfast was very large - the presentation of the food was very nice. The house is in an ideal location on an elevated spot - central but still quiet. The view of the city is very beautiful.

We loved our stay at Inn on the Hill. The jetted tub was amazing, the host was so kind and made us feel comfortable the second we walked in the door, the breakfast was delicious, and they had complimentary snacks and drinks all over the mansion. They had a good movie selection, as well as a pool room that is open to use. We just loved the style and the decorating, it all felt very authentic and just charming! We will be coming back to try the other rooms for sure.

We chose to stay at this lovely bed and breakfast instead of a downtown hotel to avoid the parking and resort fees of city chain hotels. This place was beautiful with warm fires in the common and breakfast room. Staff is friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious. We played pool in the billiard room and enjoyed complimentary snacks and drinks. neighborhood is clean and safe and walkable to most of downtown and capital area. This was a far better choice than any downtown hotel.

Inn on The Hill provides a true Bed and Breakfast experience. The location near the State Capital and the Avenues is perfect with easy access to downtown and some beautiful walks in historic districts. The breakfast was incredible with many choices and wonderful flavors. We stayed in the Carriage House and enjoyed the space and the outdoor seating by the fountain.

We stayed one night to finish out our vacation and choose this Inn due to the proximity to the airport (15-20 minutes). It is a beautiful property, well maintained and clean. The common areas are welcoming and the owners have managed to keep the the period of the home intact from the architectural finishes to the decorations and furniture.
Our room included a balcony which overlooked the city and it was well worth it. They provided outside seating. The room itself was terrific. Bathroom was large with a soaking tub/shower. You want for nothing.
It was a little difficult to find the driveway to parking on the property and the Inn does send directions a few days before on how to locate it, so make sure you look for those directions.
The breakfast was delicious and more then enough to begin our day of traveling.
Enjoy your stay at the Inn on the Hill.

It's very easy to walk from the Inn on the Hill to downtown and the capitol. In fact, that's how we did the majority of our sight-seeing. There are some hills, but nothing too strenuous. Enjoy!

I assume you're talking about a domestic flight - I should think you could make it. You can also ask for an earlier meal - don't remember whether they could pack something for you, but you might ask. We used a regular cab without any problems.
They do offer a military discount if this applies to any of your party. I believe it's 10%. Except for the solo room, room rates are considered double occupancy.

I don't know how the cost compares to other 5 star hotels in SLC - but you will be assured a very nice stay here. It is well-located, includes breakfast. jacuzzi tubs in each room and the most wonderful staff.
