The University Guest House & Conference Center is frequently lauded for its immaculate cleanliness, with guests often highlighting the spotless rooms and facilities. The hotel's spacious rooms, complete with kitchen amenities, ensure a comfortable stay, and its location is particularly convenient for those visiting the U of U hospital or utilizing nearby public transport.
While the hotel's service receives accolades for the staff's helpfulness and professionalism, the absence of an on-site restaurant is noted by some as a minor inconvenience. Despite this, the value-added perks such as discounts for certain guests and the quiet, professional atmosphere make it a popular choice among travelers.

We stayed here because the hotel is a 2-minute drive to the U of Utah hospitals. Pretty setting, spacious room, free parking, superb free breakfast, helpful staff. In room frig and microwave, plus a small selection of food items available for a simple dinner.
Couldn't ask for anything better.

This was my third visit to Salt Lake City in the past two years and second visit staying at the University Guest House. All three times were business trips with two of them working with the University's College of Nursing. The convenience of the Guest House being just a short walk up to the college was a main reason with no need for additional transportation.
The lobby was under construction, but aside from a little noise the new main entrance will be a terrific improvement for guest traffic coming in an out of the lobby. The lobby is open and comfortable with a large area of the breakfast, but also serves as comfortable seating in the evenings. There is also a smaller area with couches and arm chairs for visiting, reading or playing games. Yes, lots of board games to choose from!
Breakfast: I travel a lot and the only national chain that can compare with an included full breakfast spread is Holiday Inn Express. And they can't even come close to the University Guest House's gorgeous view of the Oquirrh Mountain Range!
In the evenings, warm cookies for guests coupled a hot cup of tea while watching the sunsets setting behind Oquirrh Mountains is breathtaking.
If you're visiting or doing work near the University, the only other offering nearby is the Marriott. For the price and convenience, there's no comparison at $152/night (as of this review), and you can't walk to campus from the Marriott.
As a business traveler, I need a good desk, chair, and multiple power connections. The Guest House met my expectations with dual outlets at each desk lamp, plus a combo outlet USB hub on the desk. And the desk chair was a true ergonomic adjustable chair.
Couple things preventing this review to be a 5 out of 5 is simply due to this location being an older hotel. There were some areas where caulking was splitting away in the bathroom. The heater/air unit is loud so every time it kicked on the TV, volume had to be turned up, and when the unit kicked off, the TV was too loud. The satellite service for TV channels was very grainy on some channels (mostly local channels) which was probably due to the snow on the dish while I was there.
As a business traveler, there was no safe in the rooms. I travel with a lot of technical gear and I don't need all my gear every day. Having to pack it all up and carry it each day was a bit of an inconvenience.
Overall, I'll choose the Guest House as my first choice on my next trip. Even if my business is not with the University, the TRAX is short walk and you can to just about get anywhere in the city.

This is our 2nd stay with the University Guest House. Most recently, we stayed there while visiting our son in college. This hotel is top notch! The staff is always very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are very clean and updated, and the location on campus is great! The room rates are very reasonable, and there are several choices for room configurations. Both times that we have stayed have been during the pandemic. Not once did I feel unsafe in this hotel. The rooms are clearly well-sanitized, and everyone wears masks while walking around. They are still doing a free breakfast, but they have you fill out a form with your choices, and they gather the items for you and give and bag of items for your entire group.
I feel that the location is great as well. It's very close to downtown Salt Lake, and near the beautiful mountains which provide a great backdrop to the University of Utah. There is honestly no reason why I would consider staying anywhere else!

The location can't be beat with little difficulty travelling to hospital even during rush hours. The staff was friendly and helpful, Rooms were clean and up to date with comfortable beds. The parking area was secure and off the street with good unloading area for guests with disabilities. The included breakfast had a good selection with a nice dining area and ample hours of operation. As another guest mentioned, ask for a room in a building separate from the student housing. If you have idle time there is a museum close by and other places of interest to visit. It is also close to many places to eat if you choose to travel around the area.

I recently stayed at the University Guest House for its rates and access to the hospital and was pleased with my stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was a nice size (2 queen beds plus a small sleeper sofa and desk) with magnificent views. The area outside of the hotel is noisy with street traffic, a noisy light rail line, and helicopters flying in and out of the hospital, but the noise quieted at night, and I slept well. (Front desk also has ear plugs available for those sensitive to noise.) The university shuttle system runs right by the hotel, and the hotel also has it's own mini-van shuttle that will take you anywhere on campus and a small radius outside of campus (no airport shuttle, though). It's a pleasant, short walk to the light rail line to go into SLC if needed, too. Breakfast was a normal selection of the types of hot and cold foods one usually finds at a free hotel breakfast.
All in all, the location can't be beat if making a hospital or university visit, and the hotel is a nice one.

Stayed at the Guesthouse for 3 night and was very happy with our accommodation. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds in a quiet setting. There was a coffee maker, microwave and fridge also. The free buffet breakfast was excellent and you could get coffee or tea all day from the dining room. There was a guest laundry which was clean, easy to use and very reasonably priced. The Guest is only a short walk to the tram stop so no need to have a car or use taxis which was a big bonus. The only down side was that there as no dinner options on site but it is only a quick trip into the numerous restaurant areas.
If in Salt Lake City again I would definitely stay at the Guesthouse every time.

The location of the Guest House is close to Kahlert Village, a quick 5-8 minute walk.
The breakfast was OK but they are doing the best they can bc of Covid.
The rooms are quiet and clean.
Staff is friendly and cooperative.
I have nothing bad to say about this hotel.
Would definitely stay there again.

I cannot speak highly enough about the service and hospitality of the University Guest House. The bed is very comfortable and the rooms are spacious. They offer free breakfast, and the rates are VERY reasonable. The staff is awesome and super helpful. For those skiing, the location is perfect as it's a short drive to the canyons - and you can easily get downtown to explore the City.

The University Guest Inn was the perfect place to stay while my husband was at the University Hospital for two weeks. It is located at Fort Douglas only a 1/4 mile from the hospital. I was able to walk to and from the hospital (well lit at night) faster than driving (due to construction at the hospital).
They provide a breakfast in the morning with many various options. Also, there was a kiosk with various items including microwavable food available for purchase from the hotel. There is a laundry room available and a wonderful workout room.
The people working at the front desk were always extremely helpful and courteous.
The only complaint I would have was they clean your room once a week but this was due to covid and if you contacted the front desk they brought you towels and fresh linens.
This Inn was great for my needs of visiting my husband in the hospital.

The Guest House is a convenient venue if you have business on the University of Utah campus. The rooms are simple, a bit dated, and dark if you happen to have a room without a view. The front desk staff is naturally college students, though the students working during my stay had a surprising lack of knowledge about the campus (e.g., didn't know where major buildings were on campus). The breakfast was simple and acceptable. Free newspapers a bonus. The shuttle service is first-come, first serve so not 100% reliable, but a great amenity nonetheless. Free parking very helpful. Overall, the feeling was more than of a Holiday Inn Express than a nice hotel, which was surprising given the rates. But, overall, it was a good experience.

Yes. We offer a hospital rate which is discount from our standard rate. A reservation staff member can help you out.
The Huntsman Center is about a 10 minute walk from the Guest House.
We have a 12:00 p.m. check out.
Emily,
We do not have an airport shuttle. There are many options, some listed by others. Please call us directly or email info@guesthouse.utah.edu. We would be happy to answer any other questions and provide the most accurate information. Thank you for your interest in the Guest House.

We are just under 5 miles from the arena. Trax, our light rail system, is just a short walk from the hotel and takes you, one transfer, right to the arena.
"The accommodations are fine--motel-like. Words of warning: the light rail is loud, and the hotel is near the medical center. Bring earplugs."Read full review
