Detailed Reviews
My partner told me the morning we woke up in our room that he had forgotten what it was to sleep so well in such peaceful quiet. We are late sleepers by any measure, but we were neither disturbed by neighbors nor any morning animal noises. And what animals! Really adorable goats and emus, plus a donkey that only brayed around our checkout time (11am). The doves make very sweet coos and it’s soothing to listen to them while sipping a coffee from the attached cafe. We stayed one night, but would have gladly liked to stay more.
We liked the farmhouse decor, the breakfast options (we got the breakfast sandwich and garden omelette), the exterior greenery on the rooms, and the very simple check-in process.
We would have appreciated if the bathroom amenities included some lotion or other moisturizer—the soap is the kind that makes your skin squeak for 20 minutes. Squeaky clean is still very good in these times, of course!
Also, the decorative pillows and coverlet were a little dusty and needed to be removed promptly from the bed for the sake of our allergies. That was our only gripe with our pleasant stay.
It was a romantic setting to stay near Lake Crescent, and we would recommend it gladly.

The Emerald Valley Inn is located on a gorgeous, scenic property. We stayed at campsite #5. It was a very peaceful experience. The property has bathrooms and a separate locking shower room, which we paid a few dollars to use. Everything was very clean. There is also a portable toilet close to the campsite area. Very clean as well. There was an area where we could visit some farm animals, which was very enjoyable. Our campsite included a picnic table, 2 chairs and a fire pit. The view of the mountains and trees was lovely. Very nice and helpful host. We highly recommend this spot for camping in a tent or your camper/van. We are definitely planning to go back.

An enchanting place to stay! We stayed in Room #1, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with a little kitchenette. The beds were very comfortable and each bed had its own white noise machine which was a thoughtful touch. The rooms were quiet, we hardly heard any noise from our neighbors. The farm animals are very friendly and the grounds are beautiful. Granny’s cafe is take out only, but the food is good and there are plenty of places to eat outside, and the views are outstanding! I would love to stay here again.

I really am not very picky about the places I stay, but when I walk in to that cloying deodorizing smell it always bothers me. This place also had two resident spiders who hung with me and didn’t pay any of the 175 fee for the night!
The woman who checked me in was very kind and they responded quickly to the text message about the room temperature (it was so hot and there’s no air conditioning). The small fan was not helping much so I went to get ice for a drink. I don’t think they need cooling often in this area, but heating and cooling should be an option in all hotel rooms.
That being said, the room was clean and it was quiet. At 75 dollars I wouldn’t have complained. I’m paying 119 in forks and MUCH happier now. I wish I would have just driven to forks the first night instead of stopped.

The first concern was the fact that they claimed that due to Covid, there was a personless, text message check in. We never saw anyone on the premises who was in charge. The next concern was that they had ear plugs provided - that was a first. They were needed as the person next door was a heavy snorer. The shower was quaintly 1960's but the mold in the bathroom was newer. The much touted Granny's Cafe was a disappointment as all meals were take out - so we carried our chili back to the room. I also did not appreciate when they told me there was no other dinner options other than traveling all the way back to Port Angeles. Imagine our surprise when we found that the Lake Crescent Lodge a few minutes down the road had a beautiful dining room, which we enjoyed for breakfast.

Response from John Cochran, General Manager at Emerald Valley Inn
Responded Nov 13, 2021
Hi, Nanface. Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. In the spirit of fairness, we will directly address a few of your concerns. We do apologize for the floor in the bathroom of your room. While it is perfectly clean and mold free, it has become a bit tired looking from wear and needs regrouting. We will be taking care of that next week. We do not rent moldy rooms to anyone. We live on the property and are always here and available to respond to any guest needs that arise. As you didn’t have any additional needs, it would stand to reason that you never saw anyone “in charge.” We avoid any and all unnecessary imposition on our guests unless they need something. It is indeed unusual, in our experience, that a guest would find that to be a negative. We are always available via the communication tool that you used to pre-register for your stay, and the office is open 7 AM - 9 PM where you can always speak to someone personally. The cafe is indeed take out only and will remain so the rest of the season until winter closure. It is our sincere hope that you enjoyed your chili within the warmth and comfort of your room. I don’t think we’ve ever had a complaint about the self-checkin process that we offer for the sole purpose of making it easy for our guests to immediately access their room without all of the outdated, unnecessary, and inconvenient formality of having to have someone hand you an old-fashioned hard key to open your room door. COVID or no COVID, our self-checkin process is offered specifically for the purpose of making ease of access a safe priority for our guests. It is unclear to us why this would be a negative for you. We are delighted to hear that you took the initiative to do some research to find yourself a place to eat in our area that personally suited your taste. It sounds like that initiative paid off for you and you had a great breakfast at Lake Crescent Lodge. We do agree that the food is great there, and we will add it to the Resources page on our website, which lists dining options in the area. We do thank you for staying with us, Nanface. We are sorry to hear that we weren’t your “cup of tea.” There are other lodging options in Port Angeles area and at the Lake Crescent Lodge that do offer a more “full-service” lodging experience that might better suit your taste during a future visit to the area. We do thank you for giving us a try.

My family and I really enjoyed our 1 night stay here, and wish we'd stayed more nights! We had the 2-bedroom unit which was clean and very spacious and had a spacious bathroom. Beds were very comfortable and plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. A great touch was the the USB plugs by the beside to charge all our devices!
Granny's Cafe on-site was perfect for dinner and breakfast. Honestly, it was the best food we had over our 4 days in Olympic National Park! The property has a beautiful location and it was nice to walk around enjoying the sunset over the valley. The location is also great to get to both Hurricane Hill and Lake Cresecent.
The only minor feedback I would give the owner is to have a little more shelf space in the bathroom, as well as some closet/shelf space in the bedroom (instead of the decorative cabinet).

Our stay at Emerald Valley Inn was superb. We did not spend a lot of time on the grounds themselves, but we did visit the animals, which was a cool experience. Management was extremely helpful— we requested a few more towels, and someone promptly dropped them off to our room. Bathroom was clean, beds comfy. Great proximity to Olympic park and to port Angeles. We easily zipped back and forth between the two. I only took one star off for location because the inn is adjacent to a busy road (pros and cons), so if you have your windows open (we did as no A/C), you will definitely start hearing cars early in the AM. We use a “white noise” app when we travel, and we had a 6:00am alarm, so it wasn’t a big deal for us :). Overall, would definitely return again!!

Stayed August 8-11, 2022; #2 Boulder Creek room. Pros: nicely redecorated rooms. Staff was pleasant and responsive to requests. Cons: The bed was poor and severely dipped in the middle. Thin walls, so you can hear people talking next door. No AC, so it was very hot the first night, with only a 12” fan to move air from one open window to another. Constant traffic noise from Highway 101, which has truck traffic all night long. WIFI was quite slow and only worked intermittently. Very cramped room, no counter space in bath.
Further issues - apparently, this place was an old roadside motor inn built in the 50’s, and has the limitations of an old structure with a tiny footprint for the rooms. No closet or dresser – just hooks on the wall for clothing. The old shower had poor water flow and temperature control. The toilet ran a lot (the flapper valve leaked) and the management said they would address it. They also said that condensation from the cold water in the commode tank resulted in water pooling in various places on the bathroom floor, and cheerfully supplied us with 2 -3 extra floor mats a day to sop up the water. What was a constant problem was the very foul odor in the bath. I don’t know if it was mold or a bacteria problem. Restaurant closed early when it was supposed to be open.
We paid $219 w/o tax nightly; we wouldn’t go back for 50% off. The previous four nights we stayed at the Olympic Lodge for $322 per night. There we enjoyed a room double the size with large upholstered sitting chairs, large bath with two sinks and lots of countertop space, a full closet, king size bed, dressers, gorgeous relaxing lobby with fireplace, free full hot breakfast buffet, swimming pool and hot tub, and outdoor dining, reading spots with fabulous water features next to a golf course. Our last night in the area we stayed one night in Forks at the Pacific Inn, which gave us a huge room, upholstered sitting chair, dining table, huge bath, AC, dresser, TV, king size bed for $184.

My partner, toddler son and I stayed in the guesthouse for three nights and would definitely recommend. Very spacious and everything you need (full kitchen, everything in good condition etc). Went to Costco in Seattle in our way to Bainbridge ferry and stocked up so we had everything we needed for all meals. We missed having a washer and dryer but knew not to expect it so came prepared. We also brought a pack n play for our son to sleep in. BYO charcoal for the grill.
Owners were very responsive to texts but we didn’t have any issues. Under 10 minute drive to lake crescent, 15 to Port Angeles (Safeway etc), and an hour to the top of Hurricane Ridge.
For exercise I was able to do a good hill run on a steep mountain road, turn off was 1/3 mile west of lodge on the 101. Also drove to the boat dock on the smaller Lake Sutherland a few minutes drive west before Lake Crescent and do a series of HIIT workouts with a view and cool off in the lake after. Also brought my mat and did Peloton yoga and strength classes in the charming side garden. (Preload content to avoid wifi issues).

Was surprised for my 30th birthday by my significant with a weekend stay here. The room was immaculate, sanitary, and well decorated, which is a plus. It has a modern chic charm with clean white sheets, towels, and great amenities. The outside environment was peaceful and the grounds were well kept. You're close to the road; however, once in your room the highway is drowned out by mountain peacefulness. The walls are thin and you may hear your neighbors every once in while but we lucked out and ours were very respectful of unnecessary noise. You may hear Donna the donkey bossing around the goats or emus every once in while but they are so ADORABLE! There is Granny's Cafe in the parking lot out front. We ate breakfast there each morning and the food was fantastic. If you're craving a soft serve ice cream cone I suggest you get one from there! The customer service was great and staff was communicative/kind, both from hotel staff and the cafe. We were honestly blown away by the entire experience and will definitely be returning!
