Basic rooms, very tired and run down. Menu basic if things are available. Local staff are fantastic however resort is let down by the whites managing it poorly and their hangers on of which there are a few. Common to find white staff smoking where you are trying to have a meal with no regard for others. Resort is expensive... More

Only popped into this place for a beer, only had one as it was 50% more expensive than the resort opposite. I believe it is waiting renovation but has had a bit of a facelift in the meantime. It has a good location but the beach wasn't kept very clean.

absolutely agree with micka1941; I could not believe that for A$250 per night I had one threadbare towel, stained bedsheets, dirty bath matt, stained bath wall, and so on. I had to change room because the air con was heating instead of cooling. I was told breakfast would be included then was told it was not. Yes it is by... More

There are much better places to stay in Kavieng than Malangan I was in Kavienb on business and wanted to be near the beach. No other hotel or lodge in Kavieng can match the location so if that's you then Malangan is the place you'd want to stay. Be warned however that bar it's location, Malangan is a terrible place... Got picked up at the airport and within minutes we were there. Outstanding location, views and atmosphere. Unbelievable beauty of surrounding islands. The resort offers fishing, adventures, fine dining and a well stocked bar at very reasonable prices. Hospitality was tops, service great and a most enjoyable holiday.

I was a bit disappointed in the Malagan Beach Hotel. It does have a great location right on the beach but otherwise it is rather uninteresting. No charm or character. My room was clean (I didn't experience bed bugs or mosquitos) the staff was friendly and it did feel safe, even at 4:30 in the morning when one must leave... More

When I arrived (without booking) there was no room available. Then they proposed me a room with no working aircondition at a special discounted rate an i accepted it . Finally a room with aircondition found at the normal price of 500 Kina. The torture started even before i swiched off the light when bed bugs invated my place. I... More

Obviously Malagan's didn't leave a great impression on some however it's under new management (Steve) and I've just got to set the record straight. I booked at the Kavieng Hotel based on the rating and that was a mistake. It's in town and there's no view. In contrast, Malagan's has a lot better amenities. Not only is it better priced,... More

In my opinion the Malagan is still the only place to stay in Kavieng. It has badly deteriorated over the last ten years and the new manager is doing his best to raise it to a better standard. It isn't flash but it is (reasonably) clean, the restaraunt and bar are good and the staff friendly but most importantly it... More
