We had a lovely stay at the Rainforest Retreat. You cannot beat the location, as it's off the busy main strip, but you can easily walk to restaurants and more in less than five minutes. The staff is kind and helpful and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

We were in a private cottage in the "Gecko village" zone, which is quiet and pleasant. The bathroom is very small but clean and the shower enough large to relax after hiking. The best is king sized and very very comfortable, the night was regenerating.

We were taking a RV tour, and stopped over here. Good site, which provided all types from backpacking, motel rooms, and tents also caravans and campers. Site well signed throughout, clean and excellent facilities. Communal kitchens with good equipment. Sign saying if you require dry/clean tea towels etc they can be provided. We washed up our meal dishes and I...

Rainforest Retreat is a backpacking, hostelish type of resort which is located at a beautiful location. Franz Josef is a place where any resort can flourish because the location in itself is so beautiful. The bar was filled with college students which made our dinner and drinks enjoyable at the resort.

Awesome staff. We booked a room which was a bit noisy and the staff were very helpful in shifting us to a beautiful cabin in the Geko Compound. Just idyllic, quiet, quaint and comfortable. Thank You we will be back.

This is a mix of camp ground and small houses for rent. Staying in a house, inside is similar to stay in a mobile home. As the name said it’s located in a rainforest, one can get close to nature thus it was good fit for our time to enjoy the outdoor activities in Franz Josef area.

We stayed in our camper at a powered site during our overnight stay and really enjoyed the park and facilities. Great location, walking distance to downtown, great meal at the attached restaurant and bar. Bar was hopping on a Sunday night. One of the employees, Mel, made it a point to spend some time with us and give us some...

The rooms were very dirty, there was a spider living in our window and the chair was covered in dust. The beds are not very comfy, the madras is so thin you can feel the wooden boards underneath. Also someone had been sick with red wine in the toilet during the night and the staff didn't clean until the afternoon...

Visited on my g adventures tour. Accommodation great, stayed in lodge. Lots of facilities, all clean. On site laundry busy but cheap. WiFi poor, kept dropping connection even in bar, not worth paying $4. Private Spa lovely undercover and good temperature. Bar nice, very busy with backpackers, bit pricey but some good deals.

I have stayed & worked in a few hostels as a traveler so understand the pressure & annoying parts of the job, but this one has to be by far the rudest one! From the woman with the lip piercing at the tourist desk to the girls behind the bar - RUDE & RUDE. Had eyes rolled at our group...
