Location first class with superb views, cleanliness good apart from what appeared to be a mouldy shower and a loose toilet seat. The list of facilities on booking.com indicated that there was an additional toilet in the apartment but it turned out that was not the case; there is only one, which for 2 couples was not what we thought we had booked.
Main criticism was the booking process. When booking I was looking for a 2 bedroom apartment as my wife and I were travelling with another couple. At the time of booking I inadvertently did not realise that there was an additional payment required for 2 extra adults and I freely admit that was a mistake made by me. They required an additional $38 per head. We ended up paying $391 for a one night stay! There were 2 good sized beds in the apartment and, after enquiring with the manager, it was indicated that if there had been only 2 of us we would be entitled to have used both beds. In other words we were charged $76 for 2 additional guests to sleep in a bed plus the costs of additional laundry and a small amount of electricity. I have to admit that appears somewhat excessive.
We spoke to the manager prior to our departure and she adopted a somewhat blasé attitude to our questions. It appeared that she was endeavouring to lay the blame at the feet of booking.com but surely the motel must be responsible for providing the correct information to them in the first place.
Quite sincerely, in the light of our comments, we do not consider that we received particularly good value for our money, despite our overall rating as 4 star.

My wife and I have stayed here many times but not for a number of years. We had the same unit as our last visit as we remembered the spectacular views of the snow capped mountains that we had from the floor to ceiling windows and doors at the rear of our unit number 3. The unit was very clean, neat and tidy with a comfortable bed and very quiet throughout the entire stay, very likely helped by the almost empty occupation of the entire place while we were there, The kitchen was comprehensive with a good size bathroom and the free wifi coverage was very good. The only slight problem for us was that there was no Sky TV which we have got very accustomed to watching at most accommodation whilst travelling over the years. As we are dog lovers we enjoyed the occasional company of two very friendly dogs who made separate social visits to our unit during our stay

Wonderful friendly host. Warm and cosy units with everything thing you need. Comfy bed. Great kitchen facilities, was able to cook a roast dinner on a cool wet evening. Not too far from the Village. Will stay again.

We got there tired after a 7.5 hr drive, looking forward to checking in to our nice large villa which we had booked months in advance for our honeymoon. We were told they had overbooked the room and that they had no room for us since we were the last to arrive (at 6pm). We were offered a refund of some sort, however our attempts to contact them have been met with no response. So i would say if you want to book here, have a backup plan in case they decide to give away your room, too.

Glenferns is about 4km outside Franz Josef so you need a car. I had a car port out side which meant that you could load/unload in the dry. Cars may be a little wider than when the car port was designed for so it was a tight squeeze to park my SUV.
The unit was large and roomy. I stayed in summer but it was cold though I could have put the radiator on.
Kitchen ok but there is a notice that if you cooked fish or curry then you could incur a cleaning fee if there was a lingering smell.
The reason for the 4 rather than 5 was the quality of the breakfast. It has to be pre-ordered by 6pm the night before and it was only cereal and bread. There are some really nice Cafe options in Franz Josef. The supermarket is tiny.

We were part of a group booking, and each of us treated as individuals/couples in our own right, welcomed and shown to our rooms.
Beautiful rooms, very clean, spacious and comfortable. Milk in the fridge.
No lights outside to interrupt a spectacular view of the stars.
Thank you, Kia ora!

We stayed here for two nights on our way to Wanaka. Very friendly gentleman checked us in. Rooms were well appointed but we found it difficult to cool down the room as the a/c wasn’t putting out much air and the windows had no screens so keeping the windows open brought in bugs (in the evening). We needed the Wi-Fi in the evening to do work but it was often not working or it worked very sporadically. So beware if you need to get work done! I would have been a more comfortable stay if the temperature was adjustable and if Wi-Fi worked consistently. Villas are located in a quiet area just outside of Franz Josef.

Second staying here and again did not disappoint. Lovely feel to the villas and surroundings. It’s a little out of town around 2-3km so if you wanting to be closer to town this might not be suitable for you. But the short drive is a breeze and so beautiful anyway. Last time they had some alpacas there ( mum always laughs as I fed them and one sneezed or coughed on me). They did however have their three sheep and some friendly chooks in the enclosed area. There was a letter for us on reception door and our key in the villa, we didn’t actually get to see or speak to anyone which was not a problem as I knew there would be no issues. Our villa was also the same one we stayed at in a previous visit in 2015. Large, stunning and excellent facilities. Everything you need is In the villa as self catering but you can opt for breakfasts t9 be delivered the night prior of you wish. Thanks for a lovely stay again.

Clean and practical and well located for visiting the Franz Josef glacier.

Rooms are basic but have everything you need for a 1/2 night stay. Staff were really friendly and very helpful with information about the area.

A couple of miles outside the centre of town so you’ll need a car. Recommend a visit to Snakebite for lunch/drinks and splash out on a helihike over a scenic flight, one of the best experiences we’ve had!

We stayed here for one night as a mid-way point during a longer drive. We happened to get one of the units on the road, so there was a fair amount of noise. The units themselves were simple, but clean. The staff was really friendly and genuinely nice. The DVD selection is a nice retro offering, especially considering the wifi was not working well at the time. You could walk to town, but it would be a fairly long walk, down the main highway, so plan to drive into town to get something to eat.

I'd imagine they'd have it on site, but I would plan on bringing some just in case. It also depends on what time you arrive as there may not be a lot of availability or shops open to find detergent if you needed it. Sorry not more specific but we did not do our laundry while we were on property.
