Very nice, large and clean units. Good sized bathroom with a bath. Close to the road that takes you to Lake Matheson and Gillespie's Beach (a must see). Close to a few good pubs and restaurants. Wifi was very weak. We got a very good price of approx $80 a night, but it was just after lockdown was lifted and I think they were encouraging people to come.
Some milk in the room would have been good.
Overall a good choice for this area.

This was a real disappointment on arrival. It certainly didn’t feel 4*. The room was very tired, there was a kitchenette with all the equipment you might need, however, had to wash the cutlery as the knives were dirty. It looked as though there had only been a light cleaning done, but the beds were comfy and the shower was good. The area felt very run down, there was very limited choice of places to eat but we had a couple of really nice meals nearby. If we hadn’t been within a couple of minutes walk for the helicopter trip we’d booked, we wouldn’t have stayed. In fairness, it didn’t help there was torrential rain at the time, which never helps. There was a minute terrace outside, but only about 10feet from the neighbouring property, whose windows looked right into our room. We did ask if there was another room available but were told no, despite the sign outside saying there were vacancies.

Nice motel at a good price , but sadly very few people around. Room was very clean and equipped for cooking . Comfortable bed and a couch. Was warm after we turned heater on and also underfloor heating in bathroom. We were glad of the electric blankets. I would definitely stay there again.

First time staying at The Westhaven Motel. We usually stay down at one of the motels on Cook Flat Road but this time chose to stay in 'town'.

Sadly not too many people around Fox Glacier township and a number of businesses have closed. Stayed 2 nights. Room was large. Self catered one night and ate out at the White Pub the next.

Did both the classic Lake Matheson walk, and the longer and steeper Lake Gault walk on seperate days (starts off the main Lake Matheson walking track).

We would stay again at The Westhaven Motel. Price had reduced than earlier advertised, was very reasonable being $100 pn

Although our room was very spacious it wasn't very clean. It had left over bacon in the microwave! And didn't look like it had been vacuumed. There were also cars parked outside our room making it difficult to access our room. For the price of $264 I expected a bit more.

The location is good and it was nice and quiet. But, you get what you pay for. The room smelt badly of bleach and the shower pressure was atrocious. Also the door to unit 6 was very hard to open and close. You'd think that they could fix this. Would not stay again.

Staff were pleasant and helpful. Room was very clean, shower was good, beds comfortable. Perhaps another choice of pillow would have been helpful. WiFi was ok. Heater worked well at night. Good recommendation from the staff to go to Lake Matheson for dinner. That was excellent. It was a bit pricey for what you got, but it was ok.

We stayed two nights here - warm, clean, comfortable beds, friendly service, toiletries included, good Wifi. There’s good parking and it’s a 2 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Would come back for sure.

We had a 2 night stay at this nice little motel. The accommodations are very clean and our king bed room was very spacious with a sitting area, kitchenette and small table that we made good use of while connected to the wireless internet. The hosts are very helpful and our rate was most competitive after having shopped around various establishments before checking in. Location is great as per all the other posts, only a 1 minute walk to the main eating and drinking venues in town. While we were there in the off season I think any noise would have to extra loud to cause any disturbance at night so one of the earlier posts was probably just unlucky. Each unit has its own hot water service and we did not have any problems with the water delivery whilst indulging in a spa bath each both evenings and showers in the morning. The hosts/managers were very helpful especially with the assistance given to my husband in his first foray into a laundry room using their much needed facilities. Whilst it is not a five star facility Westhaven is a very clean, comfortable and convenient facility that I would readily recommend amongst the limited offerings at Fox Glacier.

the room/facility were great. However, seems need to polish on the service.
There's seems no hot-water for shower after 11p. We were not informed by the time of checking-in, but the hot-water suddenly went out when showering! Tried to call the reception, but they were closed.

May I know what room would come with stovetop?
Answer from Richard N
Westport, New Zealand66 contributions46 helpful votes
As the crow flies it's probably only 20 km or so..and you can take a helicopter flight from the town up over the glaciers to view Aoraki. By road it's probably closer to 500km!! Your on the other side of the southern alps and there is no tunnel. Best is to find accommodation at Mt Cook village or Tekapo but do visit the West Coast later in your trip. Hope that helps
