We stayed here for one night. We were able to leave our things in the room and do our heli hike.
Afterwards we were warmly welcomed by Raelene and her husband Collin.
We had a room with a view of the beautiful garden.
The bathroom was in the hallway opposite.
Everything was very clean and comfortable.
In the evening we had very stimulating conversations with Collin.
We would have liked to stay longer.
Highly recommended.

Beautiful location. Very private. Raelene is an exceptional host. Our room was spacious and super clean. The garden is lovely. Good restaurants close by. Lake Matheson is near and the walk is a must. We highly recommend.

We lucked out and managed to book a couple of rooms with Raelene at Reflections Lodge. A super cute homestay B&B with a beautifully manicured and tended front lawn with pond and rose/English garden backyard. The lodge is half way between the main highway and Lake Matheson.
Raelene and Colin were great hosts, giving us great tips on what to see and what to do. Rooms/beds/bathrooms were very clean, well-kept and spacious - looking out on the nice back veranda and English garden. Had the best night of sleep of our stay there! Breakfast of granola & cereals, different breads/toast and fruit salad was lovely. Kids also had fun with Beastie, the dog.
Would stay here again.

We stayed at the 'Lodge' for two days in Fox Glacier but hated every minute of our stay.
Having travelled around New Zealand for 3 weeks this was our 12th NZ B&B/Homestay and although we have had fair mix in the quality of our accomodation we were very satisfied overall. We were so disappointed by this we felt we had to give it a full review.
This cost us $210 per night with no ensuite... some 30% more than we had paid for all our other accomodation. I've paid far less for far better accomodation. I'd say 2* at best if I was to give it a star rating.
The accomodation itself is fairly small, a four bedroom, three bathroom house. One room is ensuite. There are two lounge areas in the house, one with a tv and kitchen attached. There were no locks on any doors inside and out (and the host even prided themseleves in not providing keys or locking anything even when there was no-one in). On the positive side its got a lovely view on one side.
Our room was a small room, which was off a fairly pretty garden, but the room itself was dark. There were no amenities and no television. The private bathroom that we had access to (a walk down the corridor past other guests rooms), was clean and bright but again very basic. It was fairly peaceful, except when I tried to sleep, as the walls were thin (and the hosts couldn't be bothered to shut their bedroom door) so all I could hear was their snoring, and at 7am I was woken by helicopter noises.
When we arrived we were told to make ourselves at home and use the house as our home. We were then interrogated by the hosts as to our lives, and my wife was mocked for working in a professional role. They then tried to sell their son's helicopter tours to us and another couple who were staying there - my impression of most B&Bs in NZ was that the people do it because they like people, and the money is a total bonus, whereas here I felt very much that they were moneygrabbing and we were just a nuisance to them.
Throughout our stay they had their friends visiting, and we constantly felt uncomfortable whenever we sat in the communal area as they made it clear that they were annoyed we were there. So much so, that on the second day after we had done a 5 hour glacier hike, we just wanted to sit and watch some television at around 4pm. They arrived back at 4:15pm, and the main host walked in and said "this is our room and we've got friends over, would you mind going into another room". The last time I was kicked out a room, I was in school! As our bedroom, was so basic, and we had no amenities, we had no choice but to go for a walk (after just doing a hike!). I'm still in shock that this happens 24 hours late.
The area itself is lovely and I would totally recommend a glacier walk. There are some lovely restaurants there too (Matheson's Cafe by the Lake, and Plateau), but if you can save yourselves some money and stay elsewhere.

Response from reflectionlodge, manager at Reflection Lodge
Responded Sep 7, 2009
security worries.fox glacier is a friendly safe community where there has been no need to lock doors. i can see from my feed back that some guests are not use to this freedom and need the security of the locks.guests rooms have locks, and i will make a point of reassuring guests about this in the future sons helicopter tours money grabbing. i am very sorry that these guests confused my enthusiasm for the helicopter tours.seeing the glaciers via helicopter is the ultimate experience accessing areas of the glacier with no effort, unlike strenuous walking tours which of course are less costly. my son dosen,t personally gain when the company he flys for gets another guest. most people would be excited about flying with a pilot they have met.all accommadation providers, myself included, and the information centers receive a small commission from every company that runs tours friends visiting and kicked out of the lounge. we are real people our home is open for friends and guests alike.i am sorry these guests felt so uncomfortable.the 4hr glacier walk is very challenging for some people.i have addressed the issue of the lounges with my family and asked them to be more sensitive to tired guests.either guests tired from a long day walking or tired from being at the end of a three week adventure packed nz experience.my sincerest apologies go out to you. slumped on couch.we do not play charades,we are real people and our home is open for friends and guests alike.we welcome our helicopter and glacier guide friends who come to relax in our comfortable home. this is who we are.i am sorry i didn,t interpret how these guests were feeling.if i knew of there discomfort i would have tried to make there stay more welcoming.i mistook there quietness for a need for privacy. helicopters are in our blood.my husband, son, daughter have 41 years of flying experience.it is very exciting for most guests to see the helicopter coming in ,reflected in our pond.many guests have enjoyed the inside view of three helicopter pilots and the women who looks after them

Realene is a great host!! And her husband, Colin, is a heli pilot!!! The most experienced pilot in the region~~~ We fly with Colin for a snow landing tour, and we just got on the heli in the backyard~~ really exciting!!
Great view from the living room, in a sunny day, you can see Mt.Tasman and Mt.Cook when you're having breakfast!!
Great place to stay, don't miss it if you are visiting Fox Glacier.
And, we'll be always supporting Realene's Reflection Lodge to be the No.1 in the region on tripadvisor, haha!!

It's a lovely house with a spectacular view towards the mountain range. And this view you'll enjoy during the very good cooked breakfast.
The room was spotless clean, with a very comfortable bed and a view towards the garden. The bathroom was big enough and we had decent water pressure in the shower. The heating worked well - so all you want.
The host is a very nice person and you'll be offered tea or coffee plus a cookie on arrival. She has all the tips for your stay at Fox.

Everything was great about Reflection Lodge: the location, the room, the breakfasts, whatever you care to mention. But it was the genuine warmth of Raelene, our hostess, which made our stay so memorable. It felt like home, but without any of the work! Of all the places we stayed in New Zealand during our 4 week stay, this was the one that stands out most in this respect. Thank you Raelene!

We turned up unannounced to meet friends and were made most welcome. This is a beautiful house set in a very nice location with immaculate grounds. There is a small lake out front with stunning views of the mountains. Despite our unannounced arrival we were still fitted in for a lovely home made meal. Highly recommended

Spent a night at Reflection Lodge a few weeks ago while passing through Fox Glacier with my girlfriend. Raelene the host is fantastic - laughs often and extremely kind. She shared delicious fresh mussel fritters and told us stories about her family and the town. A very kind host who cooked a tasty breakfast, and the room was very comfortable. Really enjoyed watching the Heli's take off in the morning from right next door... highly recommended place to stay.

Maybe we've just been unlucky (looking at other reviews), but a couple things were just not anywhere close to good. We booked the twin, which is not ensuite (only one room is), the pictures are better than reality. The major issue was that, beside the linen was fresh, the pillow and the duvet were not. There was this real ugly smell of "I did Not see a washing machine for ages". Especially the pillows were hard to stand even harder to sleep on. Talking smell, when we returned from dinner (recommend Lake Matheson), the hosts had there dinner too, and the smell was all over the place.
Bathroom was ok, breakfast as well. It was an early morning breakfast , as the helicopters take of early if weather permits just aroud the corner
Looking at the pictures in the website, reality is little different, I would rather call it pond, not lake, so you see reflections, but other as expected. The other pictures show things more positive than they are.
Overall: web appearance is lot better than reality, as helicopter flights are now allowed from 7am (I'm not 100%sure whether 7 or 8, better recheck), I would rather look for something else
