We stayed here for two nights and it was a very relaxing time we explored the surroundings the room was sufficient for whst we needed. Dinner was quite nice both nights and definitely filling ice cream we had for dessert was delicious and moorish. Pillows were hard as rocks but otherwise the stay was good weather was mild and only... More

The Skotel has a nice atmosphere with a lot of wood inside the rooms. The only drawback is the cracking of the wood due to temperature differences. There is a small area for making coffee or tea. The room and hallway are warm and have excellent heating. There is a shuttle service to the mountain in case you do not... More

Wonderful location - VERY outdated accommodation. Cold, wet, old, mouldy. When the clouds cleared, the views where invaluable, making up greatly for the discomfort of the cabin. Very environmentally unfriendly for an 'eco-resort'. Needs some serious attention, especially for the prices asked.

While it was nearly $10 more expensive to book in at the counter on the day than it had been online, we were thrilled to have accommodation in the village when we arrived to find the Bruce Road closed, making it impossible to get to our club lodge on Whakapapa skifield. The three-bed bunkroom was comfortable, although the box bunks... More

Perfect hotel with wonderful views, good services, warm staffs and delicious food. The location is very strategic near the whakapapa ski field, it also provides shuttles to the mountain. I stayed here for two nights. I enjoyed staying in this hotel and will recommend it to my family and friends here and in Indonesia.

This hotel/resort is a great destination. Walking distance to The Chateau. Close to the Bruce Road. Very spacious rooms, clean and well appointed, with lovely decks to take in the views. Restuarant and bar a great place to be at then end of a day. For a bunch of "Oldies" we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to friends and... More

stayed for the weekend for my snowboard trip. the carpets were stained, beddings, mold developing around the window frames. the heating barely adequate, rooms has bad sound insulation. I could hear my neighbour's conversations and if you are as as unlucky as me to have neighbours who have a badly behaved daughter and man who snores like jack hammer, means... More

We stayed 1 night and we were terrified from the dirt the spin nest, stingy cover, old moquette, old forniture. Everything was neglect. Try to stay in the hotel nearby. The only nice thing was the view from the terrace and the nice walkpath around

This hotel has just missed the opportunity to be a fantastic place where to be . The structure is really old and worn out , rooms are not that clean , especially blankets on beds. For the rest the place is just gorgeous despite the poor hotel facilities.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Skotel was established in the early 60s by a group of keen skiers who wanted the convenience of accommodation close to the ski-fields but more comfort than the ski lodges of that time. In 1986 it underwent a major expansion with the addition of restaurant, bar and other facilities. The old part of the building became the backpacker’s wing. Skotel has maintained its friendly informal atmosphere but now provides Qualmark three star accommodation and the exciting cuisine experiences of our new dinner menu. ... more   less
