We stayed 1 night and we were terrified from the dirt the spin nest, stingy cover, old moquette, old forniture. Everything was neglect. Try to stay in the hotel nearby. The only nice thing was the view from the terrace and the nice walkpath around

This hotel has just missed the opportunity to be a fantastic place where to be . The structure is really old and worn out , rooms are not that clean , especially blankets on beds. For the rest the place is just gorgeous despite the poor hotel facilities.

Staff were pretty good. The room we stayed in was very small (known as a standard room). Not overly clean i.e. the bedspread needed a clean. More public areas were OK e.g. the bar and dinning area. Food was basic but not too bad. Lots of kids running around the corridor at 11.00 pm - should take steps to stop... More

From the moment i placed my booking, i have experienced great service. Firstly, i created a group booking, but the other families in the group slowly dropped out. At no point was the Skotel upset or difficult to deal with, in fact they were VERY accommodating and helpful. Once we arrived, we were treated brilliantly. Special mention goes out to... More

The staff, facilities, and attention to detail were amazing. The barman Nadesh makes EXCELLENT drinks. Ask for an absenth with apple cider. Very skilled. The views were amazing. We booked a Chalet, very warm. Has cooking equipment (stive but no oven) - purchase your groceries for your stay before you get to Whakapapa. It will save you a small fortune... More

We checked in as a family and were allowed an early check in, unfortunately that is where the good news ended. After discovering dirty and stained linen on our beds, my wife decided to have a shower. 2 minutes into my wife's shower on the first night the water runs cold. When we asked/complained about it the the front desk,... More

We had one night at the Skotel resort on the edge of Whakapapa. The people there were friendly, and the meal we had was excellent. They cater well for children who even have their own buffet. The room was really warm - ONE thing worth mentioning though is the walls are very thin and you can hear what is going... More

We stayed two nights and did the alpine crossing in between in the winter. Our room was very comfortable for two people and quite warm. The bathrooms were clean and spacious. The hot tub was a nice touch; just make sure to reserve your time. Wifi costs extra $5/day.

We booked a self contained cabin for our family so we could go to cook our own meals. The cabin was simple but clean and was serviced each day. It was a bit cold at night with only 3 wall heaters - electric blankets would have helped. We enjoyed a drink at the bar after day out sightseeing.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Skotel was established in the early 60s by a group of keen skiers who wanted the convenience of accommodation close to the ski-fields but more comfort than the ski lodges of that time. In 1986 it underwent a major expansion with the addition of restaurant, bar and other facilities. The old part of the building became the backpacker’s wing. Skotel has maintained its friendly informal atmosphere but now provides Qualmark three star accommodation and the exciting cuisine experiences of our new dinner menu. ... more   less
