We stayed with Anton and Mary for three nights from 26-28 May. Their home is located on Paku Hill, an extinct volcano in Tairua, and has panoramic views of the Pinacles, Tairua, Pauanui and Slipper, Shoe, Mayor and Aldermen Islands. What wonderful hosts! They are thoughtful, kind and considerate. The bedroom is large and the bathroom spacious. Provision of amenities is generous and there are thoughtful touches such as home-cooked biscuits. Choices for breakfast are also generous and several cooked and continental options are available. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend this B&B wholeheartedly. Thank you Anton and Mary for your hospitality!

We stayed at Anton & Mary's B&B in Tairua on the Coromondel Peninsula for 2-nights in late-Apr (NZ$210/night). Located three-quarters of the way up a volcanic cone, it had views of both the harbour and onto the bay. It was nicely located for touring around the peninsula – we visited Coromandel Town, hot water beach & Cathedral Cove. Located in a 2-story house on a steep lot, the B&B had 2 rooms on the lower floor that shared a bathroom; because we had reserved an ensuite room, there was a sliding door that closed off our suite from the other room. Located off a small patio beside the car park, our bedroom was spacious & bright, with light coming in through the french doors and the high windows (~1.5 m) along 3 of the walls. It was furnished with a queen bed & side tables, a long counter with cabinets & drawers (for cutlery, cups, & the kettle plus space for clothes), a mini-fridge, a large closet for hanging clothes, a rattan chair & a small table with a couple of chairs. Through the patio door were a couple of chairs with peek-a-boo views on the bay. There was a tiny TV (close enough to the bed that its size did not matter) with a DVD player & a small selection of DVD's. No AC (a stand-up fan was available for hot days) but, thankfully, an electric heater. The bathroom, through a door leading into the interior of the house, had a sink/vanity with plenty of storage space and a nice shower. For views, we had to go upstairs (we had access to the living room, kitchen & deck) and they were spectacular. The wrap-around deck had a number of seating areas, and breakfast on the deck was quite special. And the breakfast – superb – Mary provided us with a choice among 3 types of gourmet hot breakfasts as well as the regular continental extras. Excellent. When I review an accommodation, it generally takes something special to warrant 5-stars - 19th century ambiance, an incredible view, spectacular luxury. Anton & Mary's didn't really have any of these things (except that view form upstairs!). What it did have was Anton & Mary themselves. They demonstrated a sincere desire to do everything possible to make our stay comfortable & memorable, from helping to plan our day to cooking those incredible breakfasts. They clearly enjoyed meeting us and helping us have an enjoyable visit to the area. Highly recommended.

We toured New Zealand in Feb 2019, driving more than 3000 miles and stopping at 15 different places, so are well placed to compare accommodation. All were pre-booked which with hindsight was wise as a lot of places had the No Vacancy sign up. We stayed here for a relaxing three nights towards the end of our month’s holiday. It was a good base for exploring the beautiful Coromandel Peninsular. When we arrived I did wonder where on earth we were going, but it turns out their B&B is halfway up an old volcano, Mount Paku (which you can walk to the top of). There are a few restaurants to choose from in the centre of Tairua and at the nearby marina. The B&B has two guest rooms so guests are limited to four people, plus maybe a child. Our accommodation was self-contained within the house. Our room was the Queen Room which was a good size with a separate bathroom and its own private entrance. There was also a door separating our rooms from the rest of the house thus offering privacy. Their lounge was available to use and had a 180 degree beautiful view over the bay. Positives: Our hosts Anton and Mary were a lovely couple offering a warm and friendly welcome. They made us feel right at home and as the other guests had cancelled at the last minute it just felt like we were stopping with friends. Wonderful breakfasts were served inside or out depending on your preference and the weather. Negatives: As the B&B is located on a hillside there’s quite a steep entrance to negotiate and park, but we soon got the hang of it! Probably not suitable for people with mobility issues as breakfast is served upstairs.

Anton and Mary were very welcoming hosts. Drinks and home made cake were offered as soon as we arrived and recommendations given for local trips and restaurants. Our room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was lovely, with a choice of cooked dishes, along with cereal, yoghurt and fresh fruit. This was all served on the terrace which had stunning views.
