...and I think that not many people want to stay in Kaitaia for longer anyway... ;-) We came here on a Friday evening without reservation and were attracted by their street sign which announced a "Special for tonight: $89". We decided to give it a try and the check-in was fast and hassle-free. It's more of a motel-style place than... More

I can agree with some of the other reviews. The staff seemed indifferent. The interior is extremely old and dated. The shower grout and curtain were covered in mold, as were other parts of the bathroom. The shower head is at a height for people only 4 ft tall or less. The hot water worked great and the pressure was... More

Booked this hotel Via the Whangarei Hub and paid for room in full. Check in was OK but no details given of facilities which were not available. Had small aperitif in the room and went to the advertised restaurant/bar to be told (after having to ask) that neither bar or restaurant were operational because receptionist was the ONLY member of... We stayed at the Northerner Hotel as you need to stay overnight in Kaitaia (or at another nearby town) if you're heading up from Auckland to do the Cape Reinga trip. The Northerner Hotel was the nicest looking hotel out of all the hotels available in Kaitaia, which isn't saying much about the town. Of course hotel websites are always... More

Have stayed here a few times over the years for business. It's going downhill every time... TLC is needed and isn't showing. This time the restaurant was closed, and when I mentioned about breakfast I was given a tray about 1/2hr later (So assumed the breakfast room was closed) but saw it was open the next morning when checking out!!... First impressions when you walk into the reception that this is not a modern hotel at all. The staff were okay friendly and okay helpful. A decent amount of parking in the hotel so finding a lot shouldn't be too big of an issue. Walking to the room, you have to use your key to open a main door before... More

We stayed one night and it was very pleasant. The room was very old, but the price was right. Was expecting to cook in room but found out that it wasn't a room to cook in and did not want to pay hotel prices for breakfast as we only are small eaters. The room was like the house I grew... More

The staff was very welcoming and helpful with providing information about local places to eat. The hotel is about 15 minutes' walk from the town center with all it's restaurants or a few minutes by car. The room was just as other's said like back in the 70's.Shower head very low and old.The TV was old fashioned like grandpa. Because... More

It is very old and smell bad when you enter the room. The bed is cold and not comfortable as the room is damp and mouldy. The staff/housekeeper was very rude to us when we asked her why they didn't make up our bed after we came back from tour around 5pm. We won't stay again! It will be the... More

This hotel was likely built in the 1970s and as such has a lost in time feel to it, but on the whole it is a very affordable hotel with a prime location for exploring the far North. The service was efficient although not overly informative. The rooms were reasonably clean with the odd stain and cobweb. This did not... More
