We have been staying at this location over the last 15 years and are always happy with the overall appearance and maintenance. Love the access to the beach and the pools. When we had a problem, it was resolved quickly.

Our stay at Makena Surf was amazing. We have stayed at this property over 10 times in the last 20 years, and will continue to return again and again. Our unit was clean, had great amenities, looked directly over the special beach that visitors to Makena Surf are so lucky to enjoy. The staff was wonderful, the grounds were impeccable and beautiful. I can't say enough about how special this property is. This beach is truly my "happy place". Can't wait until next time!

From the internet pictures this place looked perfect. However, once we checked in we started noticing the overall unkempt furniture coverings, most especially the outside furniture. We had to cover everything outside with the two meager beach towels that were left for us everytime we wanted to sit outside. There was not housekeeping service outside at all. The unit itself is lovely and the spot it is located in just a beautiful view of the ocean. The problem with this unit is the housekeeping and upkeep of the unit itself. The floors were filmy when we arrived as were the counters, the carpeting in the bedroom was spotted with dark spots, no going barefoot in here. The glasses in the cupboard were dirty which meant washing dishes before use. We asked for an extra towel for each of us and we got 2 towels and no washcloths and no extra face towels. Housekeeping broke our coffee pot and left us a note, but also left much of the glass on the floor and on the counter. No coffee was offered for replacement. For such a beautiful location, although dated units, this could have been a wonderful vacation. Too much time spent on trying to fix problems.

Outstanding place to stay, friendly staff, beautiful, quiet surroundings. Best for couples. Loved the quiet pool, walks on the semiprivate beach and sunsets from our room. Loved the local restaurants and nearness to golf.

Last year, my family and I had an amazing stay here so we thought to come back this year. Unfortunately this trip was the worst! First off, our room in E building had a lot of roaches everywhere. We found a maintenance guy and let him know but he was so rude. He didn’t even come back and assist with the issue. Also every time I would call the front desk, no one would answer the phone. Very disappointing. The worst part of this trip, my family and I found out that Nolan the manager no longer works here. The guy was so amazing, he’s the reason we came back. He made our trip memorable last year. Destination Residences Hawaii lost a special person. I’m sure I won’t be the first or last to say that. Guys like him are the reason why I would pay to come back but my family and I will not anymore! It seems like everything fell once he left.
