We have now stayed at the Wailea Beach Villas twice. We travel as 2 couples and it is just easier to stay in a 2 master bedroom place so we have shared living area and a good kitchen. This place just works so well for us as the beds are very comfortable, having a well equipped kitchen is so helpful, the proximity to the shops, the nice grocery store and the beach is really an amazing combination. Thank you to the staff that made our stay so relaxing and stress free.
We stayed in a top-floor corner villa for nine nights in September. We visit Wailea every year but this was our first stay at the Wailea Beach Villas. The unit was beautifully appointed, with a well-stocked kitchen with of appliances, cookware and tabletop wares. The ground are beautiful, with two nice pools and beach access that has umbrellas and chairs for its guests. The gym is small but decent. There is direct access to the shopping center that has good restaurants, groceries, boutiques, and ice cream :). The three rooms each had en suite baths and the shared living room and lanai made for good family time between activities. Our unit also had a grand piano and a telescope, which we used to look at Venus and the moon. I would stay here again.
Our rooms were just OK. We had a penthouse garden view and asked if we could upgrade to an ocean view figuring less than 50% occupancy rate at the Villas. Unfortunately they couldn't accommodate us. We saw earlier reviews pre-covid where they were very accommodating to upgrades. Beds were hard and pillows were too puffy. Penthouse name is very misleading as we were at ground level and thought we would have a much higher floor. Front desk person checking us in and during our stay was not very personable. Often on the phone so we had to wait. Overall we expected more for the money we paid. We heard other hotels in the area were drastically reducing their rates by as much as 80% but we were locked in at the rate we paid earlier in the year. This did not sit well with us knowing that. The hotel should have made adjustments to reflect the current state of tourism to the island.…
Our first stay at WBV and likely not our last-this stay over all other stays in Maui (previously) now has us "spoiled". No lugging chairs and umbrellas to the beach-WBV has great staff that gets you set up-special thanks to Aaron, Jon and Tiana who always took care of us on beach days. Great adult pool where again the same group makes sure you have iced water, towels, and even SPF. Grounds are beautiful. Easy communication with front desk via text if that's your thing (its ours). Access to shopping and restaurants was an easy walk, so park the car and just start enjoying this beautiful property :-)
Let me start by saying that we like to stay at high end hotels. Yet over the past 2 years we have grown to love the space and amenities of house and condo rentals. The unit we rented here was in the "Penthouse" which is the taller building near the reception area. We rented through a third party realtor and everything with that company went smoothly. Our unit was beautiful, newly renovated, and exactly as described. There is a kids pool near the taller building and the adult pool was on the beach path. The walk to the beach was a little hot, but manageable for people our age. Mgmt said there was a golf cart that can pick you up and take you to the lower pool/beach. We never looked into this. Our kids are older teenagers. The family pool was occupied by little kids playing marco polo. The adult pool said 18 and older. The crowd at this pool was older and quiet. We didn't want to break the rules so we didn't really get to use the pools....but that was ok. We were there for the beach. Just a note...the adult pool is where all the crowds gathered. If you went down by 8:30am all the chairs were taken. Owners or renters camped out on these chairs for the entire day. Oddly enough, there was never a problem getting a beach chair and umbrella. I think the pool was the gathering place because people wanted to drink and I believe there is no alcohol allowed on the beach. The beach: great umbrellas, close walk from the exit of the pool. Water calm in the am. We saw lots of turtles swimming by every single day. The beach seating is close together. Food: there is no food service at the resort. You can get food from food trucks and vendors all along the beach path. Also, a shopping area with a Island Gourmet is right across from the main entrance. THE PROBLEM: We were on day 2 of our 6 night stay when our air broke. It never got fixed. First we called maintenance and they came right up and troubleshooted. They said they needed to call a repair company in the am. We said fine. That night we did not sleep much. With the windows all opened we can hear the restaurants and bars at the shopping mall across the street. When that stopped, we heard delivery trucks, cleaning, etc. Management put portable air conditioners in each of the 2 bedrooms. They kept our sleeping cool....but they were very loud. Still, it was cool. The problem....the rest of the unit got incredibly hot...even with the windows opened and ceiling fans on full speed. Every day we would come home expecting to have the air fixed, and every call to management presented a new problem. Everything that was fixed on the unit lead to another part that need replacement. After day 3, management offered us to move to a different unit. With our refrigerator filled and clothes/bags spread throughout the unit, we didn't want to spend our time packing and unpacking. We were promised at that point one more day. That day never came.... The air broke on a Monday night.....when we left Saturday afternoon it was still broken. I don't know if it was bad luck, covid delays, or lack of urgency. Management asked us what we though was fair compensation for our trouble. We calculated what we thought was fair and the owner of the unit sent us a check for this amount. Bottom line: traveling from the east coast to Maui, I would have preferred a seamless vacation to a refund. I felt bad for the condo owner. I believe that the Hyatt management company that manages the resort is the problem. With all this being said - the resort is a great alternative to the big hotels. A few years ago we stayed at the Four Seasons Maui. We never found a seat at the beach or either pool. Breakfast at the buffet was horrible with little kids running around unattended and birds landing on your plate. Kids climbed into the pool fountains. I think you will have a great vacation at the Grand Wailea Villas - as long as your interaction with management is limited.…
