My family loves Maui and we stay in the Wailea Area often. We stayed a week in the brand new villas. Service is very inconsistent. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in (we were also not given welcome leis that others received) and were told to check our bags while we waited for our room to be ready. My wife’s Hermès handbag was misplaced. You can imagine how anxious she felt as they scrambled to locate her handbag. We rented a cabana 3 days ($300 per day) and had to compete with regular pool users for waitress service. There was only one waitress serving half the pool area. We were only offered the “complimentary “ pool products that came with the cabana once of the 3 times we booked. By comparison, the Fairmomt Kea lani offered a personal cooler, dedicated waitress, and is consistently checking in on you with fresh fruit and warm towels with cabana service. Food service was also inconsistent. Staff was nice but we constantly had to refill our own water and wine. Not the type of service you would expect from a high end hotel. We ordered the crudités plate daily for the kids at the pool and received varying amounts each time. Again, very inconsistent. We did not feel welcomed at check in and check out. Other hotels constantly checked in to see how you stay is going. Our “dedicated VIP” Andaz team did not. On the plus side, the brand new villas are nicely built with quality finishes. We were one of the first to stay in them. The built in coffee maker didn’t work and we were never offered anything to make up for it (complimentary coffee service?) The Andaz charges and tries to give you a high end hotel experience but does not have the service to back it up. If you want to make your vacation “special” do yourself a favor and stay at the Fairmont or Four Seasons if looking in the Wailea area. The staff is very nice but fails to deliver the high end customer service you would expect at a quality resort.

2nd stay here. Booked on points 6+months ago and secured 6 days. Lucky because the rooms were selling out at premium rates - $1k+. Upgraded my room to a suite - awesome. The 2nd half, had to move to a smaller - double bed room but upgraded me to another suite the day after, without asking for it. It’s this level of service that I love about the Andaz properties. They really do take care of you. As for the property, you get what you pay for. Modern, clean, upscale and the beach is beautiful with snorkeling at its best along with myriad outdoor activities. Will be back.

The resort is right on one of the best beaches, with great on property options for restaurants and activities. The room price included breakfast buffet, with good choice of eggs and beverages. The Morimoto restaurant on property is a must try ! If you are a vegan or vegetarian, you might be a little disappointed with the limited available choices on the menu in all the restaurants on property. The hotel concierge helps you book activities such as snorkeling, whale watching, hiking etc. The meeting point for most water activities in right on the hotel beach so you dont have to worry about the commute.

Room Tip: Find rooms facing the beach and higher than 3rd floors to avoid noise from the pool or restaurants.

Underwhelming and cheap are the perfect descriptions for the Andaz. Rooms are average but extremely poorly insulated. Be ready to hear the people to either side or on top of your room. We were also awoken to an evaluation notice in the middle of the night with no further explanation from the staff. Only saving grace is their beach crew that busts their chops to make sure your seats are set up.

My daughters and I just came back from our trip to Maui, and I felt compelled to write a review of the Andaz. From the moment we arrived we were underwhelmed. To give a little background, we spent our first four days at another 5-star hotel in the same area. At the time that we made our reservations we couldn’t decide which hotel to pick, so we chose both! I know it’s not always appropriate to compare hotel properties, but when both hotels are 5-star and in the same area it’s hard not to do just that. At every location in the hotel we had to wait for staff – sometimes to even find any staff at all. When we did find staff we had to ask for everything – there was never a sense of anything being pro-active. When numerous hotels offer the same general amenities/beautiful pool areas/stunning views, there needs to be something that sets them apart to merit a 5-star rating. We did not see anything above and beyond that stood out at this property. The main issues are the hotel seems to be very short-staffed, and their staff is not pro-active at all. They are only responsive to needs, and that’s only if you can find them. I know this sounds picky, but this is a very expensive 5-star hotel and a lot should be delivered. The only reason I gave them two stars is that their grounds and pool area are beautiful and the food in their restaurants was outstanding. If you want a true, 5-star experience for the same price, I would suggest you go elsewhere.
