Just came back from the best vacation ever
The whole experience was spectacular. If you want a place where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life, this is the place. The staff was excellent from the guy that opens the gate for you and checks your temperature and COVID status, to the people at the front desk, housekeeping and the restaurant. Everyone was always offering their best service. They even took us on a tour of the grounds. The casitas are majestic, you have your privacy and everything you need (deck with huge jacuzzi and table) but they also have a couple of lap pools if you want to go out of the casita. It has a living room with a large tv, the beds are in two step level that you can divide from the living room with huge almost wall to wall pocket doors. The bathroom is enormous! It has a large tub, his and hers shower and a rain shower in the middle. The deck is strategically built so that you get the ocean breeze- so that any time of the day you don’t feel the heat of the island and as a bonus you get to hear the sound of the ocean. At night you can turn off the lights at the deck and see the stars and maybe catch a shooting star. The food at the restaurant is delicious. Everything I ate was spectacular. They even have a farm on site so that they grow some of the products used at the restaurant. Also, they are taking very good care of disinfecting against the COVID virus. They have dispensers all around the hotel. When we got to the room it smelled that is was just cleaned. And we saw how the cleaned one of the casitas that has across ours and I was very satisfied with what we saw.

5 Love the place and La Jota Restaurant is the best. All the amenities are nice and the location is simple awesome. They have individuals rooms call “casitas” which in Spanish means “little houses” with all the privacy you need to have a romantic stay. Every “casita” has a private pool with water heater so you can spend the night in the pool having your favorite champagne. In the restaurant we were attended by a very sweet waitress called Fatima. She was the best and payed attention to every detail to make me and my wife feel very comfortable. The last night she brings a dessert with “Happy Anniversary” in letters in the plate. That was a very nice detail. The place 100% recommended. And thank you Fatima for make our stay unforgettable.

    Great Hotel and Wonderful Restaurant
The villas are very big and comfortable, layout is great and the bathroom are spacious. Shower is about 4' x 12' which is a very sizable shower with a wall shower head and a ceiling rain shower. Outside there is a Jacuzzi that fits 4-6 people and a nice breakfast area. Hotel restauran is outstanding...

Royal Isabela is breathtakingly beautiful, but my experience trying to plan a wedding there has been HORRIBLE. I filled out the online inquiry form multiple times and never got a response. I called the office and was told they were "in transition" and so I should wait a few weeks to hear from a guy named Eugenio Matas. I was given his email and he responded to me asking how many people I was expecting. He didn't answer any of my initial questions or congratulate me on my engagement. After I told him how many people we expected, he ignored my email for over a month even while I sent follow ups. He only responded after I called he front desk asking if he still worked there. Shockingly, he wanted to know if I could meet that exact same day, as if I should rearrange my entire schedule after being ignored for a month. Because I was so curious about the venue, I did. We scheduled a phone call to discuss wedding packages (I still had zero information - no brochures, menus, prices, etc.). I sent him a list of questions I had and a link to photos from a previous wedding there that I was hoping mine would mirror. I called multiple times at the scheduled time and got no answer. I left a message for him at the front desk and he never got back to me. I emailed him asking if he was having trouble reaching me and gave him my number again. Still, no response or apology. The level of unprofessionalism and unresponsiveness I have received from Eugenio is shocking for what is supposed to be a luxury resort. Please don't waste your time trying to plan an event here or working with him.

When looking for a room to stay in PR we were concerned because not everything is like the pictures but this hotel was exactly like the pictures. We checked in a little late and we weren’t sure where to go. Each guest has to buzz in at the gate and then you drive up to the main building to then check in. You have to buzz in every time you come back into the property. The manager checked us in and we signed papers and he explained where to go and how to call for room service or have someone pick us up with a golf cart to get from the parking lot or to the restaurant. He did tell us there is a beach, however, it’s 170 steps down and he didn’t recommend going swimming in the beach because of the rip tides. We then drove our car down and met an employee with a golf cart to take us to the casita. We were in casita 8. The casitas are closer than we thought to each other but we never heard anything but the coquis at night, the ocean and the thunder and lightning. The place is clean and spotless. We didn’t see or have anything like little lizards or incests in the room. The living room and bed room don’t have many lights and it is a little hard to see at night but during the day it’s very bright and we had a wonderful view. The bathroom and shower room are phenomenal. Room service came everyday. They brought fresh towels and made the bed but didn’t bring toilet paper all the time unless you didn’t have another roll in the container in the bathroom. There is a safe in a giant closet with two mirrors and lights. There are two TVs, one in the living room and one in the bed room. Everything was clean even the headboard to the bed was cleaned and most hotels miss that. The little pool was nice and warm. We tried the restaurant the first night and it took awhile for our meals to come out but the food was very delicious. We did not go to the restaurant for breakfast. We went to eat elsewhere. There were some stray cats on the property just wondering around. We hardly saw or heard anyone besides the hotel staff. We went to the beach on our 3rd day and it was not worth the hike down. The gate that leads to the stairs to the beach closes at 5pm I believe. The view was nice but again we couldn’t swim in the ocean and the way down is dangerous lots of rocks and debris. We walked to and from our room to the parking lot multiple times. It’s nice to look around and take in the sights. We did lose power maybe 2 times. Our last day checking out we woke up to no power at all. It was a good thing it was a sunny day and there were lots of windows in the room because we wouldn’t have been able to see anything. Overall very happy with the stay not much to do on the property itself definitely recommend renting a car to travel the island but it’s nice to come back to at night and during the day.

Room Tip: The beach isn’t usable and it’s a 170 step hike down. Parking is far from the casitas.

Great place and location. Very peaceful, good looking areas and cabins. Breakfast was good. Steak and fish were bland. Coffee was not good. “Lenguitas de plátano” were stale. Improve the food quality.

I really want to write a glowing review, but it just wasn't what I expected. In fairness to Royal Isabela, I may have come in thinking it was a 5-star experience, more aligned with a luxury stay elsewhere in the Caribbean. I was expecting a much more service-oriented, guest-centered visit. Instead, I often felt we were staying at a resort that was closed for the season. Before we arrived, I emailed and called multiple times to get suggestions for transportation from SJU - there was never an answer or response (we ultimately rented a car). Once we got there, the business manager (I assume) who checked us in was very brief, not at all warm or welcoming (but not rude, either) - he offered very little guidance in terms of how to navigate the grounds and no suggestions for things to do on or off the property. The casita was as it appears in the pics - it's nice and clean - although ours had mostly a view of foliage, not water, which was a bit of a bummer. The casita offers bottled water but nothing else, no mini bar with snacks, which is kind of necessary given no shops are within walking distance and you're dependent on room service or the restaurant which doesn't offer snack-y things and can take more than an hour. We tried for two days to schedule facials or massages - we were able to connect with someone at the front desk for these but each time, we were told they would check availability and call us back - but we never received calls back, not even to say there was no availability. That was a bummer. One-on-one, most of the staff was lovely, but it was inconsistent and largely transactional. We did have some sweet cats hang out with us on our patio, that was nice. All in all, I wish we had stayed elsewhere, but maybe more than that wish that Royal Isabela would try harder to leverage its hard-working staff, beautiful grounds, and surrounding community to provide a stay worth $500+/night.

The Royal Isabela is perched on a high spot that allows it some beautiful windswept views. We stayed in Casita 17 and it was very private. We didn't hear a peep from anyone except occasionally we could hear the staff golf carts going by. We used the resort's pool only once and we were the only ones there for most of our time but a dad and a younger kid came after about an hour. We hiked down to the beach every day. It's about a 1/2 mile with a lot of steps. But this is no swimming beach. Very pretty but a hot hike down and back. Our only gripe was the food. I read a lot of great reviews about the restaurant but we were not impressed. Service was super slow...excrutiatingly so. The thing is there is no where else close by to eat. The town of Isabela is nothing special. So we ate most of our meals at the hotel. It was VERY expensive. Breakfast ran us about $70 and it was nothing great, In fact, we got a fruit plate one morning and I definitely could have put together a better fruit plate with what I could buy at a local grocery store in NJ. Overall, we'd recommend the Royal Isabela for a splurge.

Positives : 1). Let’s start with our room- we had the presidential suite: number 20. It’s the largest and has a walk out balcony that ends cliff side and has lounge chairs with a view of the beach below. The walk in showers are fantastic. The oversized private hot tub is great . The grounds are nothing short of phenomenal. By far the nicest in all of Isabella. Sunsets galore and ocean views that go on for miles. 2.) This casa is very private- (and has the only real private walkout deck terrace of any room on the property). Your private grounds around suite 20 are ….Absolutely stunning— Wild birds, hermit crabs, iguanas. All Pristinely maintained and what you would expect at a golf resort. It’s like you have a slice of the rainforest in your backyard. In summary : If you want to come here stay in 20 and not interact with anyone, order room service and hang out at your 1000 sq ft suite, take dips in your private hot tub and then wash off with open doors to the nature under a rain head shower …..then this place is phenomenal. I would come again, but only under these circumstances. Let’s first note that I read all the reviews on the property before I booked here. I chalked the negative ones up to just “temperamental guests”….. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong. During our stay I tried to continue to tell myself that this is island life”, “things here are on island time” ….”they probably have a hard time with retaining of employees” (among other excuses). —— But then I came to realize, I’m still paying 1000$ usd a night to stay here plus meals…That being the case - it’s not acceptable at any level. I’m tired of making excuses for bad service in the service industry and continually lowering my expectations so as not to ever get upset. Now, we get to the issues this property has. (Individually they are small but when you encounter one after the next over a week it ends up in this big and mainly frustrating review.) Negatives: 1.) Child friendly!?!: (why ? …. this is a golf resort and has no childcare or child amenities.) What I encountered is the opposite of my expectations. parents bring their children here by the heard. We couldn’t seem to get away from crying babies at dinner every night. This isn’t acceptable when we paid over 100$-250$ for two people at each sitting to eat. Yet Management just accepts this !?!? Night 1: we had to watch a father change a dirty diaper on the golf course in front of our ocean view at dinner! Yumm! Night 2: we had to move tables to escape the same crying infant. Take your crying baby back to the room! Annoying ! Night 3: we had to ask for another table to make sure not to sit next to the same baby at diner (again crying). And yet again… the father proceeded to change the diaper again on a communal sofa right behind us at the restaurant. Situations like this are not stellar experiences while eating lobster and steaks by the ocean. I would expect this type of behavior at a Sandals Resort but not here. As far as I can tell, the management never said a word to these guests as it happened at least 4 consecutive nights of our stay. Even after asking the manager to switch tables each time. 2.) Dining: Each meal takes at least 2 hours from start to finish even if you order your entire meal the minute you sit down. Sometimes we ate snacks we had purchased from the grocery store (just because I didn’t feel like dealing with that type of extended sit down experience). Also, when you sit down you are told each night that 2-5 of the menu items are not available. That being said, the food is amazing. Each dish was expertly prepared. Some of the waitstaff was great (Jessica) but most were not. Some even had AirPods in their ear while serving us. Their pizza oven was broken for our entire stay due to a bad part. (Disappointed to say the least since as their website boasts about their amazing pizzas). Sometimes we went to the golf shop restaurant… ultimately, we were forced to order what we got the last time we came to eat at the pro shop (since none of the employees could find the menu …. Also, the servers english was so limited they couldn’t really explain what they had to serve )—-Not acceptable for paying 1000$ per night !—- 3.) Our arrival : we were told our driver would take us to our room and show us the property and explain how everything worked. —— He said nothing! And didn’t show us the property. We were left to decipher how the resort worked, if we could charge to the room, if we had to make reservations, if there was a dress code and so on…… —-just a bad start. Not acceptable for 1000$ per night! 4). Cleaning : if you call the maids, they will take all day to come. One day they came at 10 am and the next day at 2. No set schedule as to when they came. They will enter and replace towels but not clean or make the bed. Then, You will have to call at least twice more for them to actually show up and change the sheets and clean. Again, not acceptable for 1000$ per night!— I’ve had better housekeeping at a Holiday Inn. 5). Room service: The one time we ordered they brought the wrong food. - we shouldn’t even have to pay for that meal. -not acceptable for 1000$ per night— 6). Management: Basically, You will be told different things by different people. Nothing is consistent. You will be told that you can just walk everywhere on property… when in fact you can call for a driver in a golf cart. -something you have to figure out for yourself- why did you not sit down with us and go over everything? Especially since you asked if we were first time guests. 7.) Upon leaving: the manager had to ask us our casa number to check us out. (crazy since she was the same person who checked us in) -really made you feel not special. Also, she was basically just a human credit card machine reader. She didn’t ask us anything about our stay or how we liked it….She didn’t say anything about hopefully see y’all again. All she did was ring us up and take the receipt.

This resort is a slice of heaven! What a perfect get away. The casita is gorgeous, very spacious and beautifully decorated. The bathroom is also incredible, huge shower and large bathtub. You have your own plunge pool/ hot tub. And the large pool is set among palm trees with a waterfall. The restaurant is wonderful. Best pancakes ever! The drinks are great, especially Pedro’s rum punch. Staff is very friendly and accommodating! We can’t wait to come back

I'm at the Royal Isabela right now. There are many wonderful things about it, but there is one thing you need to be really careful about. I called three weeks ahead with only one request: that they place me in a quiet Casita because i am working on a book. I had read the reviews and i knew that some were a bit close to the pool, while others are far.. But when we arrived and showed us where our casita was, it was right above the pool (there was only one closer than that). Xiomara at the desk assured at check in that it wasn't really that close to the pool and would be quiet. That was a total lie. I spoke with the manager, Maria, who told me that the casitas farther away are reserved for long term guests. She swore that our casita (16) was "one of the quietest " My gut feeling is they just screwed up and randomly assigned us this one--i don't believe that all 10 of the ones further out are booked long-term) but just so you're warned, from that they're saying, if you book a vacation (we're here for 6 days), it's likely that you will be in a Casita that is close to the pool and very noisy with children screaming. I love kids and i have them, but i chose this place specifically to write. Too bad because i would come back all the time if this went true. It's a gorgeous property in so many ways.

I have stayed in Royal Isabela several times! I absolutely LOVE this place. The casitas are private and luxurious with their own hot tub. The food and cocktails are made from fresh ingredients from the local area and extremely delicious! This is my place when I want to escape from everyday life and slow things down. Can’t wait to visit again! There are no words to explain this getaway. You just need to experience it yourself!

We ate breakfast at the restaurant and at first it was quite lovely. I totally enjoy one’s feeling pride over their culinary abilities. But one should not think that their taste is fitting for all. I totally enjoyed an egg frittata type breakfast with fresh avocado on the top, when I asked for salt, I was totally ignored and snubbed. Just FYI, listen to people that you’re catering to and accepting their money.
