Royal... Where should I begin..check in: after driving around for 10 minutes inside this facility attempting to find the check in area, It was brought to my attention the lack of attention or maybe TLC of lawn careless & low maintenance. Ouch! What an eye sore, for a second I thought I was in the wrong place or an abandoned resort. Fast forward and for upcoming guests, the check in is the last building, once inside there’s a small office to your left, I guess the trick is even if you do not see any staff just go inside and sit down until someone eventually comes to complete the process. After this annoying event, and they check us in we had to wait an hour, which it converted to two hours after 4:00pm. Restaurant: (the only one), while waiting for our room. We ate at this place..waitress advise us that restaurant closes today at 5:00pm. My response was- and reopens later for late dinner... no it does not. No other bar, no snack bar, no restaurant. Nada! Interesting BS! Anyways, thank goodness to google there’s a lot of small delicious restaurants outside the resort, which we end up going for dinner and did a quick stop for water, etc. because this place-does not have room service (obviously restaurant is close) and we also had breakfast outside the hotel the next morning, because it was 9:45am and I assumed the restaurant was close for the day. And did I mentioned the food was awful! So, two very important things: get water, medication or any essentials because this resort does not have a small shop and/or restaurant (which is usually close). Room: Finally! We got our room, this is where my weighted three rated stars are from. The room and view is nice. The room is spacious, clean and private. The view of the ocean (not beach) was spectacular. Did I mentioned this resort does not have a beach (which I knew)- there’s an area but be mindful there’s 2k set of stairs, coming back up was the hard part. Room: the person who took us to the room, I believe he was maybe a maintenance staff, anyways gave us the key and brought our luggage’s inside and left. Yeap, no tour of the room, just figured out all the amenities on your own, which were not rocket science however the room glass door seemed to never close appropriately. We just prayed at night, no one will come and mug us- guess it worked. Security: there’s a security guard at the front gate. But to tell you the truth I felt safer outside the gate that inside this resort. Driving at night going back to the check in area or rooms or anything, it made me realize or maybe appreciate rather see the careless ugly scenery of grass, plants and trees. No lights, my house had more solar or spot lights- this place had non. No security within the hotel, no hotel staff- I don’t know maybe we were the only guests. No idea, it was just a creepy, awful feeling- just wishing daylight and the ugly scenery come back to light. Overall, it’s definitely not Royal. It really hurts me writing this review. I was born and race in Puerto Rico and always look forward trying or staying in new places, every time I visit. Puerto Rico has amazing places. This place In fact was amazing, despite the ugly abandoned scenery, poor customer and/or hospitality. Unfortunately, I would not recommend it to no one, it’s actually embarrassing. It does not cost a fortune to fix or change the negative aspects that I mentioned. To top it all off, you want to charge over 400.00 a night or more. No way! Definitely not worth, definitely not Royal! Unless your expectations are usually around 1-2 star motels.

My fiancé and I had heard many great things about Royal Isabela and decided to go for the weekend with another couple. Although the premises met expectations, the service did not. When you pay 5-star rates, you expect everything to be in tip top shape. As much as I wanted to enjoy the experience, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone considering the subpar service. Disappointments from the trip, to name a few: 1) When my fiancé went to check in, there was no one else waiting. They asked him to sit down and basically forgot about him for 20 minutes. 2) We ordered wine to our room that we have had before. We called room service and told them that it had a funky taste asking if we can get a new one. The person on the phone tried to convince us that that we don’t know what we are talking about. In a luxury resort, I have never had the experience where someone tells us that we are wrong about our tastes. 3) We ordered breakfast one morning. BIG MISTAKE. They completely forgot part of our order and when we called back the restaurant to tell them, they told us that they would get the rest of it right away. They never showed up. Considering the hotel’s potential with its beautiful location, I highly suggest that Royal Isabela better train its personnel. It’s is truly a shame that they could not get it together.

My boyfriend and I spent our 3 year anniversary here over memorial weekend. We are PR residents and this was perfect escape with the lockdown. We had Casita #20 which had a lovely board walk leading to the edge of the cliff. The ocean was visible. and the crashing waves audible. The entire Casita and yard is private, so you & your honey could do as you please with no worries of peering eyes. The interior of the Casita is lovely with a tuscan vibe. There is a plunge pool that you can walk directly into the bathroom shower (or out to).. The shower has 2 showers heads. and a rainfall shower. head as well. Double sinks, a spacious tub to soak in as well. The water pressure is low, but this is mentioned in the hotel book as a method to. conserve water. As there restaurant was closed, room service from the. restaurants. kitchen was still available. I broke my diet. completely!! The food is absolutely delicious!! Everything is farm to table, and if they do not have in their garden , they. source from local. The eggwhite omelette and pancakes are BOMB! Highly recommend the Churrasco Steak,. its enough for two. Also, if you do want to bring your own food, there is a fridge in the casita as well, along with a wet bar. The sides however, are very small.. might need 2 orders for one person. If you are into golf, there is a golf course on property. Its quite beautiful. Only down fall is my sweetie had selected the romance package when he booked online and for some reason the hotel was unable to see the selected package (or possibly it did not select?) however, I won't dock a point for this.. just be sure that if you book online and have these types of special request packages to double confirm with the hotel ahead of time. Please be mindful that the beach (meaning waters) are quite dangerous in this area. The waves are big and very strong - you will. get knocked down and. pulled out quick. Do not recommend trying to swim these waters. However, the beach is still beautiful. and pleasant to sit on and soak up the sun or go for a morning walk. We were not able to experience massage and other types of packages due to COVID restrictions..( will update this part another time when we come back) The staff was all very pleasant. We will be booking to stay here quite frequently for small weekend getaways from Dorado.

I want to give them the benefit of the doubt being that we are in stressful corona virus times. There is one restaurant and only room service available. We didn’t mind the wait time. However, on MULTIPLE occasions the restaurant staff spoke back to us when we asked for simple stuff like a set of wine recommendations or what food was on the menu because we did not have menus in the room. Instead of being helpful they said in verbatim: “it is way too tedious for us to tell you what egg dishes we have for breakfast” Um..Im paying $400 a night. I understand if the restaurant is busy but don’t tell me you just dont feel like helping out your guest for a few seconds because its too “tedious” to give a few suggestions. Instead we had to wait an hour for them to text us menus and another hour for the food and wine. This happened several times. Horrible service for a supposed 5 star resort. The views are nice and amenities are cool but the service needs to improve big time.

Even in the middle of the global CV19 crisis, our stay was absolutely amazing! The property looks incredible, everything has been beautifully maintained, and the staff were simply wonderful with us. The rooms were perfect for the current realities of CV19 restrictions, each room has its own large deck, is totally private, has its own private pool, and the room service and food was fantastic. Exceeded our expectations on every level, and gave us the chance to have a wonderful anniversary trip at a time when we thought that would be impossible. Thank you Royal Isabela for a wonderful stay, a great memory, and we will see you again soon!
