I read about the Steep Ravine cabins about 4 years ago in the AAA Via Magazine and it was on my bucket list. We have been trying to reserve a cabin without any luck. Finally, my wife surprised me on my 47th birthday to this absolutely gorgeous place. Our family of 4 with 2 boys (14 & 8) went there... More

It is harder to get these cabins than it is to get into the hippest restaurant in SF or to get shares in the hottest IPO. But sometimes, about as often as republicans and democrats agree, you can find an open cabin and it's awesome. We aren't campers. So, I will translate the experience for others like us who don't... I was fortunate to get reservations thru Reserve America (Mount Tamalpais state park) as these cabins get reserved within minutes of opening reservation window. These cabins are very rustic, with wood stove, picnic table, wood platforms for beds, counter top for cooking/food prep. You need to bring same things you would for tent camping minus the tent. I stayed in... More

Hello just did first stay at Steep Ravine, it was glorious, as others have posted. Here are my observations as we go again tomorrow. Stayed at cabin 7, closest to the beach, great unobstructed views but it is farther from the parking lot which means more steps to the shared restroom and more energy used to bring your stuff to... We stayed for 2 nights, and had an absolute blast. The views are fantastic, and each cabin gets a view since they are stacked in rows on a slope. The inside is clean but extremely basic (think of it as camping, but without needing a tent). You go here for the views and the solitude, not for fancy amenities. If... More

The cabins have been on my list of "must do" for years. They sell out within hours of the reservation window. We managed to book one in December after someone else canceled a night in Cabin 5. The cabins are rustic, but are very clean and a comfortable step up from camping. There is no electricity. Water and shared flush... More

It doesn't get any better than this. Rustic cabins, sounds of crashing waves, natural beauty, quaint setting, Steep Ravine just up the road, great company and wine. Really is one of those things I adore about CA.

This was a bucket list item for me, as I had heard tale of these cabins...one of the reviews almost scared me out of going!!! We were in cabin 2 and my biggest fear were mice as one review stated. We heard nothing and saw no signs of mice. We did however leave our door open as we were eating... More

The cabins are what may be called a "bach" (bachelor) in New Zealand many years ago. No electricity, no running water. There are windows, some of which can be opened and a wood burning stove. Critters (mice and maybe rats) will enter the cabin during the night. We had good cell service with AT&T (no service at some places in... More

Stayed in Campsite 5 for two nights during August meteor shower with my two teens. Great fun hiking about and playing on the private beach. Foggy, windy, and a bit chilly here unfortunately, but the day we left looked glorious. Nice sunsets despite fog. Very quiet and secluded camp sites. Must carry gear in wheel barrels a five min walk... More
