We spent a relaxing time here on our way to Mount Rushmore. It was nice sitting on the patio in the evening and we had a nice breakfast before leaving the next morning. It is a large hotel but did not seem big with the several buildings.

I did quite a bit of research to find a nice hotel in the Black Hills for our family vacation. That being said I had some expectations because the ratings were good. The K Bar S exceeded my expectations and I was really pleased. The hotel setting is beautiful as it is away from the busy and touristy town of Keystone. We received such a warm welcome at the front desk. The rooms had every amenity I could ask for, they were comfortable and clean. Additionally we had a balcony that was actually worth sitting on. The balcony furniture had cushions, it looked out over Mount Rushmore and the scenic grounds of this hotel. I saw that there was a bonfire with several people gathered around it in the evening, I thought it looked was really nice even though we were too tired to go down to it. We had a continental breakfast it was delicious not the usual dry lumps of scrambled eggs. We would definitely stay here again I recommend it if you were looking for a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills.

The lodge itself is gorgeous. Our room had a balcony that had a profile view of George Washington but it was far enough away that my wife had to point out where I should be looking. There was a wedding on site while we were there which kind of put a damper on our relaxing evening on site (we were told by a bridesmaid that the fire pit we were enjoying was reserved for the wedding—it wasn’t!). Staff had to tell the bridesmaid that the fire pit was for ALL guests. Thanks to the staff for that. Eating a nice meal anywhere near Keystone was difficult. Lots of burger and pizza places but the few “nice” restaurants in the area had a 40 + minute wait! No thanks! I’m guessing the wedding shut down any chance of eating at our lodge. Staff was great, lodge is beautiful…just don’t go when there’s a wedding on site!!

Beautiful view of Mount Rushmore from our room’s porch! We especially enjoyed using our binoculars to see details of the faces. The hotel staff was welcoming and friendly. They suggested places to eat in town and were happy to answer questions. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. My son loved the hot tub. The hot breakfast was a big hit with all the kids and rated “best hotel breakfast” on our whole 12 day trip.

Beautiful setting and very nice accommodations. Perfect place to stay, close to downtown Keystone but far enough away from the busy area for peace and quiet. Breakfast was good with outside seating on the deck.
