Detailed Reviews
Was booked for one night. But due to car issues stayed two nights.
Tammy and Cine were the best with helping book the second night.
They were sure that my wife and I were okay and if we needed anything let them know.
I really appreciated their caring and understanding. I will never forget them and what they did for us.
We stayed in room 21 that faced the road. there was very little traffic after dark and are room was very quite after dark.
Parking was right outside the lodge.
Room and lodge is rustic and clean and has a great feel. The two queen beds were comfortable and came with four pillows. I slept great both night.
The water pressure in the shower was strong and felt good after a long day.
There are plenty of seating areas outside where you can enjoy coffee, drinks, snacks etc.
They did offer a light breakfast each morning. Coffee was hot and tasted great.
The lodge is about a 5/10 walk to main street. We parked are car and walked both days.
I highly recommend the lodge not just for the room and amenities. But for the personal touch that Tammy and Cine offer.
Hope to see them again in my travels.

We stayed here on our road trip as we were moving across country and really enjoyed our stay. It became clear that we were going to arrive outside of the check-in time, so I called ahead and they made it super easy to check-in. The staff was very helpful and kind in general. We were there during some unseasonable snow and they were able to give us some insight on other places we were going on our trip.
It was clear by the little touches that this is a small business by people who really care about it. One of the things that jumped out was that they have a small bucket of rags that you can use to clean mud off your boots or other types of messes, which I thought was great! I never quite know what to do if I need to clean something up from an unexpectedly muddy excursion when I'm staying in a hotel.
Technically, they weren't able to serve breakfast in the lobby, so I wasn't expecting anything, but when we checked out the offered us a paper plate of pastries to take away, which was great. We were also a bit worried having to move across country during Covid times, but I felt completely at ease with Battle Creek's cleanliness and Covid safety measures.
I would definitely recommend this place, although having just realized they have other cabins to rent, I'd like to try one of those also!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Battle Creek Lodge during our trip to South Dakota and had a great experience. The owners were fantastic. Very friendly and informative. We met Cine on our first day and she gave us great tips on visiting Mount Rushmore and the Needles Highway.
The room was a bit dated but clean and the bed comfortable. I did wish we we had a room above the street level but the other rooms were all taken. Even though we were at street level we didn’t have any problems with noise. The shower had good pressure. Overall it was the perfect place to spend the night after a long day driving of hiking.
The lobby was closed during our visit for covid safety reasons but we were able to use the microwave when needed. Our room had a fridge. We didn’t get to use the outdoor area but they did have a fire pit and patio which seemed like a nice place to relax.
The location was great for exploring the Black Hills area (Rushmore, Needles Highway, Custer State Park). Also a drive to Rapid City was less than 30 mins away.
I’m glad we stayed at the Battle Creek Lodge and would stay here again.

Battle Creek Lodge is a “small family run” type of lodging that is just off the main thoroughfare but within short walking distance to central Keystone. Loved our stay and sitting on the many decks interacting with fellow lodge visitors after a day of doing the tourist stuff. PLUS, our hosts were terrific !

I recently enjoyed a two night stay at this wonderful small hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Both proprietors went above and beyond while helping me not only during my stay but also before my arrival due to changing trip plans. The great photo location tip for Mt Rushmore was really appreciated and very useful. This is a great little hotel with wonderful proprietors. If ever in the area again this would hands down my hotel of choice. Thanks for all the help....

My wife and I drove into town in late afternoon on Labor Day weekend! We called everywhere looking for a room and finally a friendly voice said not to worry, “ my name is Cine and I will hold a room for you!” Thus began our friendship with Cine and Tammy and a wonderful few days in the Black Hills at the Battle Creek Lodge. Clean, neat and plenty of pillows and towels to make us comfy. Lodge deco with coffee and fridge! Amazing warm pastries and fruit each morning with all the beverages. Breakfast offered the opportunity to plan our day with Cine, Tammy and Peanut. We walked to the restaurants, shopping and the 1880 train depot that Cine recommended and she even provided us with directions and recommendations for food while on the daily adventures. Our stay was PERFECT!!

Hi Stephen, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review; as you know this helps other travelers to get to know us better and decide if Battle Creek Lodge & Vacation Rentals is the best fit for them when seeking accommodation in The Black Hills and it represents a huge help to us as well, it is very appreciated. Cine and Tammy are both well known in the community of Keystone for being kind, friendly ad welcoming, you certainly came to the right place and at the right time, Labor Day Weekend had the whole town full so you were certainly lucky to find availability. We're so glad to hear your stay was remarkable and hope to have you staying with us soon at one of our Vacation Rentals or next year at the Lodge. Safe travels and many happy returns~ BCL & VR Team VaneWandu

Our stay at Battle Creek Lodge was very comfortable and allowed a great place to relax after a day of sight seeing. Cine and Tammy were incredible! Honestly, have you ever stayed somewhere that the owners come out in the evening to enjoy the fire with you and visit? They gave us wonderful ideas on where to visit and things not to miss.
The room was very clean and the bed comfortable! The only thing we would've liked to do was open the window in the room as it got very stuffy with the warm weather. We prefer the fresh air to the A/C but that was a minor thing to us!
We can't wait to have another visit and you bet that Battle Creek will be on our list!

Thank you soooo much for your review, Dear Dana. We're more than happy to read your words. Maybe next time you come you can stay at one of our vacation rentals in Hill City or Keystone. There's so much to do here, we know you will have an excellent experience every time you come to The Black Hills. Thank you for mentioning your preference for not having had the chance to open the window as you would have liked it, this is something we'll be addressing in our annual adjustments list. Nice staff! This is an older motel, but the place is clean. Parking is in front of the building in a little pull off just off the road. The room was clean. The ring toss outside room 22 was a nice touch , along with the communal fire pit area. Breakfast was cinnamon rolls, boiled eggs, hot and cold cereals and plenty of coffee. If you're looking for a pool or a lot of extras, this place is not for you. If you're looking to meet locals with helpful recommendations, this is the place! When we called to make the reservation, they were already recommending we check out the lighting event at Mount Rushmore!

My adult son and I stayed here to see the sights. Close to Mt. Rushmore, and more. The Lodge was comfortable as were the beds. 1 block off of Main Street. Breakfast was filling with a variety of choices, & we enjoyed the balcony firepit. But.....the best draw to the Lodge is Cine and Tammy! They directed us to areas for Star Gazing, and answered ALL of our questions! Would highly recommend Battle Creek!

Breakfast is served daily from 7:30-9:00 a.m. daily.
There are small refrigerators in the rooms. We do offer ice for drinks and cocktails, but we don't have ice for coolers. There is a store just down the block where you can purchase bags of ice very inexpensively.
We have an assortment of parking options for our guests. Most guests prefer to park directly in front of the lodge. This allows you to see your vehicle from the room. In addition, we do have camera's to monitor any activity in the parking area. We take a lot of pride in have very easy/accessible parking. For those of you traveling with a large vehicle or pulling a trailer, we have additional parking across the street (still within our vision) Please let us know if you have any questions.
I am so sorry I just got this post! There are some smoking area's outside of the property, but we strongly discourage smoking. The "Casinos" are in Deadwood -- about an hour from here. There is lots of video lottery and things like that -- but actual casino's are in Deadwood. There are several bars and restaurants within walking distance of the property. I hope that helps!
