We reserved a suite tent--from check-in to check-out we were impressed with the attentiveness, knowledge, and friendliness of the staff, as well as with how clean and well-appointed all of the facilities were. The view of the sunset over Mount Rushmore while making smores followed by native storytelling and a star-filled walk back to our tent was the perfect way to end the night. Our kids didn't want to leave and we definitely plan on returning!
First time at an Under Canvas and we loved it! We highly recommend and plan to utilize this company in the future when visiting additional national parks. We stayed in a Deluxe Tent for 4 nights. A great way to camp with some creature comforts, like a king sized bed, en suite bathroom, and on-site food options. A little pricey but a great way to “camp”. Our tent looked exactly like the website, comfy and welcoming. We only used the wood stove in the tent one evening and one morning, as it did not get too cold during our stay. The bed and pillows were comfy and warm. Super nice to have a toilet, sink, and shower in the tent. The water in the sink was very cold, think splashing your face in the morning with water from an icy mountain stream=) The water in the shower is heated, but I would call it lukewarm. My husband reminded me we were camping. We appreciated the option of on-site food, having a leisurely breakfast and most dinners or an evening snack at Embers. Each morning there was a special offered for breakfast, which was usually what we enjoyed. The food was fresh and always served up rather quickly. Dinners, appetizers/snacks, and drinks were a regular menu, we always found options to enjoy. The drink prices were expectedly high (wine and local beers). From some of the tables you have a view of Mount Rushmore, this was a favorite of mine to be able to look at this amazing site. Also there is a platform/gathering area which provides a view. If you have binoculars you can seen it in great detail and also enjoy the evening lighting of the mountain. S’mores are a nightly activity and a yummy ending to each evening. We did not participate in any of the on-site activities - yoga, walking tours, etc. as the timing was limited and usually only offered once during our time there. The site is beautiful and tree filled, we saw deer most mornings as we drove out for the day. The location was central to the places we visited during our trip (some required significant drives to/from - Badlands, Devil’s Tower, Spearfish Canyon - but we knew this going in and enjoyed the scenic drives; always coming and going on different routes). All of the staff were helpful, friendly, and willing to assist. Our only note for improvement would be towel change out every couple of days, mainly due to the climate, as they did not dry out even after being hung out over the course of the day. We traded ours out at the front desk and it was not an issue.…
This was a first time experience! We are not outdoorsy folks so this was a stretch and a real adventure for us! The staff was so helpful and pleasant! The tent was really nice and had everything you need. Our tent was large and the only one left when I made the reservation months ago so we shared it with our brother and sister in law and there was plenty of room. It was a very chilly night so my brother, who thankfully is very outdoorsy, got up and stoked the wood stove every two hours during the night. It really was a fun experience!
The facilities are excellent and the staff is very pleasant and accommodating. Delicious food and views of Mt Rushmore. I can’t say enough about the staff and service. The tents are clean with very comfortable beds and full bathrooms. There is even a wood burning stove that heats the tent nicely. Great experience.
I loved everything about this place from the decor to the staff. If you love nature, camping and hiking this place is perfect. There are tasty food options. Slightly pricey but free water, coffee and tea 24hrs at the main reception tent. I absolutely LOVE it here :-)
We had a great time at Under Canvas Mount Rushmore. Definitely opt for the bathroom in the tent if possible. Weather was quite chilly and it was great having our wood burning stove and hot shower. Food was great and we were impressed with how well everything was run.
This was our second Under Canvas experience, the first was in Yellowstone. We absolutely love our stays at Under Canvas. The accommodations are so clean and furnished with upscale furnishings. This trip to Mt. Rushmore, we reserved the deluxe tent that had the bathroom in the tent which is well worth it. The on premises food suites is beautifully as well as the outdoor dining area. The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well. We highly recommend the Under Canvas Mt. Rushmore location.
We weren't sure if "glamping" was for us - but once we got there, we didn't want to leave. Beautiful tents, magnificent grounds, outstanding staff. An absolutely wonderful experience all around. Will definitely visits their other sites!
We were so excited to visit and have this experience. The staff was very nice. The room was also very nice. The problem is I paid extra for a bathroom in my tent and they place me in a tent right next to the common bathrooms and the parking lot! The reservation person said you would not hear your neighbors, but we heard everything from couples being intimate to kids and people walking around. This would be worth every penny if they would cut the amounts of tents in half. Just too crowded and not worth it.
My husband and two young boys (6 & 8) enjoyed a night at the Mount Rushmore glampsite. We were upgraded upon check-in and received a tent with attached bathroom. I had originally just planned for our family to use the communal showers/bathrooms to save some money. I am SO thankful we got upgraded, as it thunderstormed all night, and wouldn't have wanted to be sprinting to the restroom during that! Will definitely pay the extra money for the attached bathroom in the future! We explored the campsite, including the disc golf course they have on site. Warning: not your typical disc golf course in the middle of a field...there were mini-hikes up the mountainside between holes and would definitely recommend wearing pants and decent shoes! Food was great for both breakfast and dinner, super friendly and accommodating staff. The only thing I wish we could have changed was the weather! I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for Under Canvas locations on our future travels. …
