I stayed for a night in Alexander Lodge; the lodge is located very close to the entrance of Mt Rainier National Park. I travelled during Covid times and the check-in was without any staff at the front desk. The room keys were there at the specified location with all the instructions on how to check-in. The room was pretty clean and well maintained; they also provided breakfast in the morning (delivered to your room). All in all, a comfortable stay close to Mt Rainier.

Location to Mt. Rainier is awesome. The parlor has the smell of your great grandma's living room. Sorta musty. Our room was small just like the photos show. Even though this is an old property our room had a Google dot! and an air conditioner unit that worked. The bed was a queen and quite comfy. The property is definitely COVID safe. i never saw an employee!! I made my reservations online then received an e-mail telling me how to order my breakfast which was delivered in a basket in the morning. it was similar to other grab n go breakfast in the COVID time i have had at Marriott Springhill Suites or Towne Place suites. piece of fruit, juice, bagel and cream cheese and hard boiled egg. Another e-mail is sent with check-in instructions and where to find your key! We walked a short distance to the Wild Berry cafe for dinner. That was convenient.

The history of this place is impressive, but my cabin experience wasn't. I was in a cabin (actually an old house) because I couldn't camp in the park that night and the Inn itself was booked. The shower hadn't been cleaned (there was black hair in the shower (I'm blond) and the bathmat was wet). There was also hair in the bathroom sink. Normally, this wouldn't be such a big deal, but we are dealing with Covid and I just felt they hadn't really cleaned and sanitized properly. And for $209...Also, there was the sound of kids (?) running upstairs and the whole building shook on and off for hours. Which was weird because it looks like a one floor house. Ghosts?? Weird...The bed was so saggy, when I fell into it, I rolled into the middle and had trouble getting up. The grounds and pond are lovely, and perhaps the rooms in the Inn are better, but my experience was disappointing.

We stayed at the chalet home at Alexander's Lodge. It met our needs for our family of 5. It was very cozy and heated up nicely. I must mention that the staircase going up to high wood paneled ceilings with stained glass windows were indeed the highlight of the small home. The placing of some of the windows in the home - without curtains mind you - was a bit odd and that would be an easy fix to put up curtains so I don't know why that hasn't been done. Overall what mattered most was location, location, location with it being super close to Mt Rainier. I was unaware that the main lodge location had splendid views and such until reading other reviews here and we didn't take advantage of that. We only came to the chalet home so this review only reflects that. The home did offer a private outside deck for star gazing at night which was nice. If you have a large group or family I recommend this place. If you have children under age 5 I would recommend a baby gate for the steep staircase. I wouldn't recommend it for those used to luxury hotels where everything is flashy, new, and modern as this home happily reminded my children of "grandma's house". My children say they'd love to come back. :-)

They advertise are the only place on that side of Rainier offering breakfast during COVID-19 and this was part of the reason I booked here. In hindsight, I would have made a different choice because the breakfast was comparable to what you could get a gas station and didn’t seem justified by the price in comparable rooms(queen bed, private bathroom) at places not offering breakfast available nearby. The breakfast was a frozen breakfast burrito, a fresh apple, and a frozen danish. The positive reviews of the food prior to this pandemic were really positive which is why I had high hope for in room breakfast. The grounds are lovely and definitely a perk. The pond in the back is really scenic. There is a beautiful classic charm to the building, but don’t expect your room to have a modern look or be renovated recently. Also the guest guidebook in room hasn’t been updated since 2015 and some of it doesn’t seem relevant anymore.
