We stayed here for three nights between Christmas and New Year's as a semi-staycation, as we live less than an hour's drive away. I feel that this is the best B&B we've stayed in in a very long time. We arrived a little earlier than expected but were warmly welcomed by Christopher, who was about to set out the freshly baked cookies and wine, which are set out each afternoon around 4. Our room was well-appointed, with a beautiful wooden wardrobe to hang up our clothing, two suitcase racks, a writing desk to place our laptop and trunk for setting extra bags. The room did not have a TV, but we did not miss it, as anything we needed to watch could be done online with our laptop we brought along. Everything in this house sparkled and was polished--things were so clean and dusted, not an easy feat to pull off in a house filled with antiques. I appreciated Monique's attention to detail. Like many restored homes that are over 100 years old with large windows, the room got a little chilly at night but we had a space heater and the bed had a heater, which you can set when you go to bed (I ended up having to turn it off because I got too warm with the comforter). The bed's mattress was very firm but did not make my back sore. The sink, which can be seen from the bed, had lights under the basin, giving it a soft glow and made it easy to find when you want to wash your hands at night without turning on the overhead light. Breakfast is a 3-course, homemade, gourmet meal. Guests are given the choice of having breakfast either at 8:30 or 9:30 (and can switch up the time if you wanted to). Owner/propietor Monique Pasquale welcomed us each morning at breakfast. She was very personable and was happy to talk to us about the house's history, the breakfast and about Frederick. She really seemed to enjoy having guests. She made sure to keep everyone's coffee mugs and water glasses filled and made sure we were not missing anything when each course was brought out. The breakfasts were so filling that if we did eat lunch it was later than usual. The inn was fully booked while we were there (there are 5 guest rooms), but we never saw more than a 2-3 other couples/guests at a time, so there'd be only 2 to 4 others at the breakfast table. In the past, we've always tried to stay at B&Bs that provided 2-tops or an in-room breakfast option to avoid the communal breakfast table. However, since this was a smaller property and Monique fostered such a warm and friendly atmosphere, I noticed guests were friendly with each other and would talk among themselves at breakfast. So we really enjoyed meeting others who also decided to do a local getaway. Running a B&B is a ton of work, so we appreciated Monique's hospitality and her bubbly personality. Parking was easy: there is un-metered street parking right in front of the house. We only moved our car once to do a day trip to Thurmont because downtown Frederick can be easily reached on foot; it is right up the street on Market Street. As we were driving away, we were already thinking of when we should come back to stay here again for our next local getaway. We felt spoiled This inn is truly a local gem.…
