I read some great reviews of California Inn before we traveled. They were all glowing reviews so when we checked in, we were not disappointed. The staff was warm and welcoming. We had two little dogs with us, and the Staff gave us a great room at the back of the hotel so we wouldn't bother anyone with occasional barking and were easily able to walk them nearby.
The room had a large patio door and parking right outside the room. There was a second door at the back of the room that led to the lobby and breakfast area.
We were immediately impressed by the immaculately clean and comfortable room. The bathroom was sparkling clean with nice amenities. There was a rubber no slip mat in the tub and another mat for the floor. We had a comfortable king bed with great pillows for a good night's sleep. The refrigerator was larger than the usual hotel fridge and had two cold bottles of water for us to enjoy. The bed faced the TV and there was a comfortable chair in the room. The tile floors were shining, and I included a photo of one of our pups so you can appreciate it. A nice hot breakfast with lots of choices is included in the room rate. The charge for our pups was minimal which was a nice change for the amounts we had to pay at other hotels. There are several places to eat within walking distance and a Dollar Tree next to the hotel in case you forgot anything.
We highly recommend the California Inn if you are planning a visit to the area. Thank you for a great night's sleep after a long day of driving.

I spent six nights of my recent USA visit in five different hotels. My room at the California Inn, Barstow cost the least while providing the best overall stay. It appears to be an old (1960s?) motel which has been revamped and redecorated yet the room was just as clean as the most costly hotel of my travels. Plus California Inn provided a wide selection of complimentary travel goodies in the room and a tasty hot buffet breakfast downstairs the next morning. I rather wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the morning sun on my balcony overlooking the pool.

It's a nice room on the first level. However, when we registered, we had to place an extra $100 deposit for "extras," which included smoking in the room. You can't get a room without this deposit. The rooms on the first level have a sliding door to the pool area. Guests on this level all have this access. This is where we witnessed others smoking cigarettes. We kept our sliding door open for air throughout our stay. We are not smokers, but when we got our bill, we were charged for "smoking in the room!" Watch out, folks, and check your statements, because this might be a scam. They had no proof whatsoever, that we smoked in the room and, again, we are NOT smokers.

Exceptionaly CLEAN our room has carpet I like rooms without carpet but these carpets are extremely clean Housekeepers are busy cleaning now they are hard at work making sure rooms are Really Clean Shampooing carpets etc... We got here early check in time is 2:00pm But they got us in asap the Professional Staff have been over and above expectation a Nice lobby With tables and chairs All the amenities. Coffee pot and coffee, mini frig, microwave, iron and board, hair dryer in the room They have pride in their Hotel You can see they really care Inside out is really well maintained Even the Ac heater filter is clean. No unpleasant smells Just Plain Clean i used t clean Cabins and i like detailed cleaning Thats what you have here The Bed and pillows are very nice and Comfortable i love the layout of room and bathroom And little private balcony makes it really nice. While sitting and reading my BIBLE i can hear The birds in the trees. very peaceful and quite even with everything (dollar tree, IHOP, and several stores) all around close by. been here for a couple hours and so far we are well pleased My husband just woke up from a Good nap oh They have plenty of Truck Parking i searched all the reviews and chose this place for the price and the reviews. We stayed here for 1 night as a sort of halfway house between destinations. The hotel is more functional than luxury, but the room was big, clean and comfortable, and it more than suited our needs. The hotel provides a buffet breakfast for guests (this was a welcome surprise to us) with a wide selection of fruit, cereals, bread, pastries, eggs, fruit – and waffles. It was actually one of the best breakfast selections of the trip, although a thoroughly 'no-frills' affair. If you need a good place to stay in the area, and one that won't break the bank, I would certainly recommend this place.

California Inn is a great choice for those traveling between CA Hwy 58 (Bakersfield) and Interstate 40 and 15 with comfortable well appointed rooms and a pool, and patio in back. Breakfast is excellent. Over the past few years, more travelers have found their way here. I like it because it is far enough from the freeway (3/4 mile?) to avoid traffic noises and vagrants, but still very convenient with several good restaurants and a Starbucks / McDonalds nearby. BUT, make sure to get very clear instructions on how to sign onto their WiFi, an issue I've had the last two stays.

The room was extremely clean, pool facing rooms offer a great view. Second floor has balconies and first floor has sliding door to sitting area. The pool area is great with nice furniture and good views. Rooms have everything you need, two sitting chairs, desk if need to work, microwave, huge mini fridge, lots of tv channels. Even had a toothbrush and toothpaste just in case. The price is unbeatable. I roadtrip on a budget so familiar with budget hotels, this far exceeds a "budget hotel"

Their pet policy is kind of vague. They allow pets but they say to check with them in advance and that there "may' be an additional fee. I did not see any pets when we were there unless you want to count the 12 or so squirrels running around. Sorry not much help, best bet is to call.
There are more places to choose from in the Barstow area.
