I initially refrained from writing this review as I try not to be reactive in the heat of the moment, especially where someone else's livelihood is concerned, and have never felt strongly enough to complain about single night accommodation before however 6 months on and this experience still leaves a sour taste in my mouth so here's hoping this review provides some sort of catharsis. Put simply this is nothing like the pictures they use to sell the place. My girlfriend and I had booked to stay here for one night in June 2019 when visiting from Scotland, We were leaving for Death Valley early the next morning so when booking this seemed like the perfect place to stop, enjoy some retro Americana and get a good nights sleep before heading out the next morning. So we pulled in and it seemed alright, the classic cars around the parking lot seemed to be being used as storage for old bedding and other such things, which retrospectively was probably the first red flag. We checked in and went to the room, we were disappointed to find an incredibly small, outdated, unclean, smelly room which seemed to be devoid of any maintenance, where broken items had just been removed and never replaced. Not only that but in place of the promised round bed was a regular old boring rectangular bed. Immediately I went back to reception and query'd the situation, The man I was speaking to was incredibly dismissive and didn't seem interested in resolving or even acknowledging this problem at all. I was informed that there was in fact only one room with a round bed, that it had been taken for the night and "you wouldn't fit on the bed anyway" (side note, I'm 6ft 2" and around 250 pounds, my girlfriend being 5ft 6" and around 110 pounds). I was genuinely taken aback at being spoken to like this and just wanted out of the exchange and indeed away from the motel. It was at this point I asked for a refund as I had no intention on staying on the property, the man I was dealing with refused stating that we had paid now and there were no refunds. We placed the key on the counter and left the motel, quickly booked a replacement and had a good nights sleep. As stated in other reviews there was no apology, no empathy or understanding of the situation. I later, after a couple of emails and a few phone calls managed to secure a refund through the third party booking site, even if I hadn't I still would rather have lost my money than spent a night here. We were not expecting the world, but we were expecting what was depicted in the pictures they use to advertise the property, a neat, clean, interesting place to stay for the night, The Route 66 Motel was none of these things and honestly, if I were you I wouldn't waste your time.…
We didn't stay in this motel but drove in the parking lot to see the decor. If you are a Route 66 fan, it's worth a drive to see the old cars and other items in their parking lot when in Barstow, California.
We were quite excited about staying at the RT66 motel with a round bed. It didn’t let us down. The room was clean, and about what you would expect retro wise. We would recommend motel to anyone driving the mother road.
This was the last night of our route 66 girls trip. The motel was very quaint and the perfect place for our last night. Our room didn't have any of the round bed, but the couple in the next room let us see theirs. Will definitely stay here again.
Great place close to everything, good staff. I would be very happy to stay here again when I do my next trip. There is a lot to see with museums and a lot of memorabilia. I enjoyed the walk around to visit every place.
