Our sixth stay here, either en route to Algarve or back to Santander ferry. Arriving mid afternoon we always manage to get a car parking space in underground garage. Getting in and out in car lift is challenging but perfectly OK with parking sensors on car. The rooms are great with good bathrooms and plenty of European plug sockets. We take a travel kettle plus teas and mugs with us, because we need a cup when we wake up! We have eaten in restaurant and in the town, but prefer eating in. Luckily we ate in because there was heavy rain in the evening. The restaurant menu is fine and the monks refectory is fantastic. Portion sizes are good but not big. Excellent wine list. Service is prompt and reasonably friendly. Breakfast self serve options are fine. Ordering eggs can take time and the table coffee is poor. However there is a good coffee machine. Altogether reasonable value for money and the building and location are a big plus

The property is a wonderful old property with lots of character, vast public areas and outside areas to wander around in. The bedroom, with separate sitting area, was very comfortable, but the en-suite was in need of refurbishment. The water pressure in the shower was barely adequate. Food was disappointing. The property was very busy and the 2 excellent staff serving at breakfast were unable to keep up with resetting tables and restocking the buffet table. Coffee is undrinkable. The presentation of the meals in the bar in the evening was dreadful. The quality was passable. We only ate there on our first night ('once bitten twice shy' as the saying goes)

Like many other Paradores, this has been carved out of a former convent dating back centuries. The Reception desk organises guided visits of the main parts of the Parador, including areas such as the Library and the former chapel which are used for events and celebrations and therefore not normally open to hotel guests. We were told that no two rooms are the same shape or configuration. Ours was an ordinary, not superior room, but had floor to ceiling windows on one wall (unfortunately looking straight out at, or straight in from, a garden path!) and two tiny windows on another. I should imagine that the rooms without the large window will gain in privacy but be rather dark and gloomy. The bedroom furnishing was excellent, and the shower-room wonderful. It had a double walk-in shower . . . Everywhere was clean. There were some gardens and a pool. I don't know whether to call it a swimming pool or a paddling pool, as its deepest point was only waist deep. :-) Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The one thing that let the side down was the restaurant food and service. Not good at all . . .

The Parador group are renowned for taking buildings of historic importance and converting them into luxury hotels while retaining the history and architecture as far as is practical. The Parador in Plasencia is a converted walled monastery in the center of Plasencia, a small town at the foot of the Jerte valley. To keep the integrity many of the rooms don’t have an external wall, just a shuttered rebate to make it appear there is a window. The rooms are typically suites, bedroom, small sitting area and bathroom. The hotel has a small pool and outside eating area, as well as bar and restaurant. The staff were helpful and welcoming. Parking is at a premium in the town, the hotel does offer underground parking accessed from a lower street and via a car lift. Its charged per night. Eating at the Parador is an expensive affair and breakfast is well over priced for what you get though the restaurant itself is quite interesting. I would recommend staying here, but choosing to eat outside where restaurants are close and plentiful.

This hotel prices itself into a category which it clearly does not belong to. This is evident in the pool and the food. The pool is tiny with few umbrellas and not enough sitting space. The food is of supermarket quality. Stay away. This is by far the biggest mistake of our summer trip - expensive and disappointing.
