We attend the GMHA horse show very close to the Inn and this is our first choice of lodgings. Rooms are clean and well maintained. We had a package shipped to the Inn for the competition and the front desk made sure it was safe and delivered it to us at dinner. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant several times for both dine in and take out. The dates of shows book out well in advance so book with confidence and enjoy a great place.

I wouldn't call this an Inn We have stayed at a number of Inns in VT and I would not put the KVI in that category. Usually there are innkeepers who greet you. We arrived on a Sunday and the place was deserted. The Tavern was not open and it was after 2 pm so the country store was closed as well. The code to the room worked but the room smelled musty. The advertising does not match the reality. We did not stay and drove 3 hrs home instead. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for something more than a bed.

We stayed two nights in one of the family suites in January, 2022. The stay was disappointing. The room was freezing, we had a space heater for added warmth, but it did not do enough to combat a very cold night, and a very drafty room. We complained the next morning and they brought us another space heater which made a difference, though it was still not the temperature inside we would have liked. Unfortunately, overnight the space heaters shorted out the electricity in one part of the room and so it was very cold again by morning. I did appreciate their responsiveness, but honestly, in Vermont, you've got to do something about the insulation to not leak that much cold air into the room. We were up their to ski so cold is part of the package... Second, and more disappointing because of the lack of response was the lack of hot water. We tried to shower our first night, and the water wouldn't get past tepid. We called them and told them about that too, and they did nothing. Overall, our room was dated, and probably hadn't been touched in 20 years (certainly not weatherized). They offer contactless check-in, but had not sent me an email by the time we arrived (and we arrived after check-in time had started). The code they gave me didn't work for the room, so I had to go back to get another one. Not a big deal, but taking all that together, it just felt like things weren't operating that well. Staff were all friendly about it, but it was reactive and band-aid responses, rather than proactive and addressing root-causes of issues. The restaurant on site makes great pizzas, and has a great beer list. I'd recommend staying somewhere else, and eating at the restaurant.

Felt the actual hotel is not consistent with what is advertised online. Overall an unpleasant stay for multiple reasons. They’ve clearly put $ into the throw pillows and our bathroom was new/updated but the nuts and bolts of this place are beyond poor. Cherry on top is the inhospitable staff.

The hotel has been renovated and looks lovely. The snow came and the room was warm and cosy. We spent time with family so we did not eat there, but we have eaten before. Our only issue was the lack of breakfast but they have an arrangement with the general store so we went there . The front desk were knowledgeable and helpful . Other places in VT suffered from the industry-wide lack of staff.

Spent two nights here. It’s beautiful from the outside and has a lovely flower garden in the front of the property. When we walked in the door though it smelled “old” and musty. I think, after having time to look around and see the rest of the property that it was the carpet on the stairs. It was stained and worn and really needs to be replaced. (Especially since this is the first thing you see when you walk in the door.) Our room left a much better impression when we walked in. It was HUGE. We could have hosted a dance there. There were a lot of windows so plenty of natural light. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was roomy with a single sink. The tub/shower was one of those one piece fiberglass things. It was fine except that it wasn’t installed properly so when you stand in it, the bottom creaks from the fiberglass being flexed from the weight. It doesn’t affect the functionality but it is loud and somewhat disconcerting. There were a couple of light bulbs out in the chandelier (yes, chandelier) and on the bathroom. I think this is unacceptable since it’s so easy to check and remedy when the room is cleaned. Cell service in the area (both Verizon and AT&T) is nonexistent but they do have acceptable WiFi. However, it’s not secured. Completely open which could pose a big security risk. Highly discouraged in this day and age. Note too that this is an inn and not a B&B so there is no breakfast served. But the South Woodstock Country Store is next door where breakfast (limited selection) is available for purchase. I’m pretty ambivalent about the whole experience. Nothing terrible or that would make me discourage someone from staying there but nothing stood out as being exceptional either.

An awful night! We went to the grocery and bought Lysol spray but it didn’t help with the overpowering odor and neither my wife nor I could sleep because of allergies induced by this musty dirty room. The arrogance of this place, charging these fees, surely aware of this musty mildew smell, and not even having a simple air purifying unit in the room? Do not be fooled by the photos of this inn’s beautiful historic exterior! Because we were in Woodstock during peak season, we could not locate another room in town—-we would have forfeited this Inn’s exorbitant fee if we could have found another place to stay. Shame on this place! We have traveled widely and occasionally have stayed places over the years that have not met our expectations, but this joint takes the prize. And there’s no one even here running the place, to our knowledge. You check yourself in. No coffee, tea. Dirty, uncomfortable, with pathogenic air quality—what more can I say?

The Inn was better than we anticipated. The room was very nice and the bed extremely comfortable. Wi-Fi was very fast. The Inn it’s a 10 minute drive to Woodstock. Restaurant walkable from your room. Breakfast at General store also walkable and very good.

Property and rooms look nice upon first impression but once inside our room(20) it went down hill fast. Opened the windows and quickly closed them because the sills and screens were full of bugs. Tried opening the window where the AC was and it was jammed shut. Luckily we had a screw driver in the car that we used to pry it open. Even with the air on the musty smell was over powering. Bed was hard and uncomfortable, lamps all on verge of falling apart and flickering, no where to store belongings in bathroom and if you needed to plug in a charger you to unplug something else. Why 2 stars, location

I've known about this inn for 15 years when I lived in the area and was excited to actually stay there. The property is drop-dead gorgeous--old buildings well maintained, and perennial gardens to envy. The town of South Woodstock is lovely. Our room was large, with an excellent bed. We were on the second floor up a very narrow stair that was hard to manage alone, let alone with luggage. there was no staff around to help. in our room two of the 5 lights were not plugged in and to do so required moving heavy furniture. there did not appear to be any of the things like ice machines or beverage machines on site. At this price point I would have expected at least a continental breakfast or at least coffee and tea, but we had to go next door to a cafe and pay $20 for breakfast. When we arrived we received in our room a note about new covid procedures and the plan to have no staff available to avoid exposures. Had I known this before I would not have booked at this hotel. What a mistake! And the window behind the bed was filthy!
