Our family. recently stayed in rooms 101, 102, and 103 for a wedding weekend. Rooms 101 and 102 seemed to have suffered recent water damage - the rooms were literally wet and musty, the furniture was damp. There was a vomit stain on the side of one of the beds. Carpet is dirty, lamps are broken. The outdoor decking is worn. This entire place looks like it needs to be closed down and refurbished. I know the pandemic has been challenging, but it was shocking to pay as much as we did for what amounted to three very mediocre worn motel rooms. The trip advisor total ranking when you search this place is quite misleading - read through the reviews - wish we’d looked more closely. We chose it because it was one of the places with a wedding room block for the event that we were attending, but we would NEVER go back. The people working at the front desk were very friendly and polite, to be fair, but at the end of the day the physical plant of this place is just beyond tired.

I had booked a room and unexpectedly became sick the night before I was to stay at the Shire. I was only able to get to a person at the reservation desk after many attempts. When I told them I was sick and was unable to come I was told that I would be charged for the room which was over $260. I was also told that there is a 72 hour cancellation policy. This was the first I had heard of this. I asked to speak to the manager and was told that they were not sure when she would be in. I left a vim for the manager Barbara but was never called back. After many attempts I finally reached her. I asked for a credit towards a future booking and was denied. Beware of this if you plan to book a room here.

Hi Lizsuz, We do have a 72-hour cancellation policy, which is listed on our website, all third-party websites, Google, all confirmation emails, and is also verbally relayed to guests during the booking process. The typical policy is actually 14 days, however, we have reduced this due to COVID. When guests cancel this close to their arrival date we are often unable to resell the room, therefore losing revenue. I suggest purchasing trip insurance, which is relatively inexpensive, and will protect against cancellations.

This hotel is very deceptive. It looks like an upscale place, but it is NOT. Carpets are dirty, it offers almost no amenities, and is in definite needs of updating. My room had one lamp for the entire room. When I checked in at 5:30 pm there was a vacuum in the hallway and it is still there at 9:30 pm. Outdoor area is not as it is shown. It is a terrible value for the money and definitely would not recommend it. Stay somewhere else

This is a motel. The room was clean but the furnishings are either very dated ( chairs ) or new but cheap. I understand Woodstock is expensive and it is peak season. But I was disappointed with the property. Beware rooms 117 to 120 require you to navigate around the back and down out door steps that are tricky. Room 120 was odd. There is a support column in the room and from the door you step down to the room and the up 2 steps to the bath. I have mobility issues due to a serious illness and typically avoid stairs. I would not have booked this room had I known. I would not want to navigate those stairs with a rickety handrail with a child or I. Rain or snow. There were some frightening dogs that were on the property. The dog lunged at me growling through the rail while being walked by a young woman. One of the staff came by and assured me they were fine and she seemed to know the dogs. I love dogs but found this unnerving. The back porch walking to the room is filthy and needs swept. The bathroom fixtures are dated and while functional are just tired. The room was large, the carpet was new and we found the bed comfortable and the room quiet. The room was newly painted. I found the room to be very clean. I have no problem staying in a mid to low range motel, but thought it very overpriced. On the other hand it was full. I won’t be repeating my stay. I’ll spend for an outstanding stay or less for just a basic bed.

Needs maintenance. Understand the impact of covid on hotel business but as of September 2021 most in this area are very busy. This property needs maintenance. For example mattresses are old and room feels tired in need of paint and maintenance.
