Travelers' Choice
Finca Gran Cerros is a traditional old finca, or farmhouse, nestling in the Andalusian hills just a few minutes' drive from Alora and within 40 minutes of Malaga airport. Sitting on a mountainside overlooking a tranquil secluded valley, mainly laid to olive groves, prepare to fall in love with the breathtaking views from Finca Gran Cerros with the Sierra de las Nieves (Mountains of the Snow) as the distant backdrop. Finca Gran Cerros offers just three, lovingly restored, self-contained suites; a large, airy loft-style two bedroom apartment suite and two traditional one bed 'casitas'. Each of these is a relaxing home-from-home that comes with its own private outdoor space, shower room and kitchen. Newly renovated and refurbished, our accommodation combines traditional features with modern comforts, including wifi, air conditioning, ‘rainforest’ showers, bluetooth speakers, Netflix TVs and Nespresso machines. Our stylish, bright, fresh interiors are designed with exacting attention to detail, taking subtle influences from Andalusia’s rich history and the intricate geometry of Moorish design. Here, you can relax and enjoy the views from the lush terraced garden with its large swimming pool, separate jacuzzi and numerous seating and lounging spaces.

Having delayed our original trip to Spain in 2020, when I was re-planning it I was able to get a three night booking at the Finca which I was really chuffed about having followed Shaun and Michael's story on New Life in the Sun. We had Casita El Torcal which is a one bedroom apartment set furthest from the main house with a big terrace overlooking the stunning mountain views and the pools down below. El Torcal is beautifully decorated in a modern and contemporary style in neutral shades with some lovely design touches especially in the bathroom that had a rain head shower plus normal shower head. There is a full kitchen to use too (not that we did!). The apartment had air conditioning too and a floor fan. The toiletries were the scented ones made at the Finca so it was nice to try those. Outside is a large terrace with a rattan corner suite and table under a sail shade where breakfast was served, a second small bistro table and chairs as well as two sun loungers for our own use with a beach towel on. There was a starter welcome pack of orange juice, milk, cold water, tea, coffee pods for the machine and two beers which was a nice touch. We also had two home made cookies left with our welcome note and a folder full of useful local information. The pool area is beautifully kept with those amazing views and three different shaded areas to cater for the three units available at the Finca. The tropical plants and trees are so pretty. Prior to our arrival the communication from Shaun and Michael was superb. I was always responded to very quickly plus a full email a week before we were due to stay with all the info we needed for our journey there and arrival. Shaun and Michael are the perfect hosts with a very warm welcome. We knew they were around if we needed them but were not intrusive. Breakfast is included and is different each day. Two of the three days we had it served at our outside table but on a rare rainy morning we had ours in the outside kitchen which also has stunning views. It has an honesty bar in too. On the Sunday evening we took advantage of the meat and cheese platter which was very filling and tasty. Locally we were pleased to be able to walk the Caminto del Ray river gorge which luckily I had looked at about two weeks before as it is best if you book in online before you come as otherwise we would have missed out on. It takes about three hours and is mostly flat. There is a bit of a bouncy bridge at the end!! We also went to Casa Nelly, a restaurant in Alora recommended on their website. The service was so friendly and the mainly barbecued meats so tasty and succulent we actually went twice! The outside terrace overlooks two of the town's churches which are lit at night. We recommend the huge Pork Sword. On our spare day we chose to go to Antequera and wished we had gone to Ronda instead (a longer drive). We had our worst meal of the ten day trip in the market square in Antequera (Meson Casa Carlos where clearly none of the staff like the english tourists!!) To sum up.....a beautiful setting with stunning views, modern and contemporary accommodation with every little extra thought about and wonderful hosts providing superb customer service. One of the best places we have stayed in (and we have been lucky to have travelled a lot! Wishing you both continued success for your business, Judith and Mark

Hi Judith, and Mark! Thank you so much for such a kind, helpful and comprehensive review. We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay here with us as much as we enjoyed meeting you both and having you here. It was such a pleasure, despite seeming to fly by so quickly! We hope you enjoyed the rest of your Andalusian adventure and it goes without saying that we'd love to welcome you back again sometime. Thank you again. Best wishes, Michael & Shaun x

What can I say? Everything about this place is perfection. Shaun and Michael are fabulous hosts who do everything they can to make your stay the wonderful experience it is. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment which is beautiful and has everything you could possible need and more. The breakfasts are different every day and the dinners are delicious, both served on your own private terrace which has spectacular views across the tranquil countryside. If you can tear yourselves away from this paradise there are some lovely places to visit in the vicinity but it's tempting to just stay, relax, unwind and enjoy the pool and the peace. Thankyou Shaun and Michael. We will be back. Best Wishes Bob and Sue xx

We have recently returned from a 9 night holiday at Finca Gran Cerros and really cannot recommend it enough. From the wonderful apartment (we stayed in El Torcal) where everything had been so carefully thought out and had everything and more that we could possibly wish for and need during our stay, to the absolutely glorious views and countryside, the tranquility, beautiful gardens and pool, we felt like we were in paradise! Shaun and Michael are fabulous hosts. We received such a warm welcome from them and throughout our stay, they were always so kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The best food we had during our holiday was that which Michael had cooked for us. We ate in the outdoor kitchen with fabulous views, soft music playing, candles. Wonderful! Loved it. There were lots of lovely places to visit but we were always so happy to come back to Finca Gran Cerros at the end of the day and sit on our very spacious terrace with a glass and watch the sunset. So a very big thank you to you both for making our holiday so special. We will definitely return. Love from Jan and Keith xx

I don't often write reviews but felt this place truly deserved a special mention. This really was 3rd time lucky having had to cancel twice due to Covid-19 & it was so worth the wait. Everything from the warm welcome, stylish apartment, food, views & tranquil surroundings was just fabulous. Shaun & Michael are the perfect hosts & gave us a really warm welcome before showing us round the Finca's facilities & finally to our gorgeous apartment. We stayed in the one-bedroom casita which was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated & smelled divine due to the home-made fragrances dotted about which are available to buy both at the Finca & online. The casita had absolutely everything & I mean everything you could need including the aforementioned homemade toiletries for you to use during your stay. Outside the views are stunning & go on for miles. It really was like being in your own private oasis. Breakfast was different every day & always delicious. The evening meals were gorgeous & beautifully presented & it was such a treat to be served on your own private terrace or in the outdoor kitchen which is also extremely stylish. We would highly recommend eating there. There is also an honesty bar with ice-creams, soft drinks, wine, crisps etc. which was perfect if you didn't fancy a trip into Alora for a bottle of wine with your dinner! As I said previously Shaun & Michael were the perfect hosts. Always on hand to answer questions & offer advice but were also very discreet & professional. I also have to mention Bert the cat! What a character! We loved him & his sassy attitude! And I can't go without mentioning Rocky the dog who we tried so hard to make friends with. Another week & a few more packets of ham & I think we'd have cracked it! Hopefully he won't be so nervous on our next visit. This really is a truly special place & we will certainly be going back. Best wishes Janine & John xx

Janine and John, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely and comprehensive review! It was wonderful to meet you both and we thoroughly enjoyed having you to stay. We're delighted that you enjoyed your time there. Rocky would definitely have been won over with a little more time and more treats! He's still a very nervous little pup!! He says thanks for his bottle though ;-) Thanks again for choosing to come and for sticking with us through all the Covid turmoil. We're so pleased that it was worth the wait and very much hope to see you again in 2024. Very best wishes, Shaun, Michael and the small zoo!

Four of us - 2 couples - stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment at Finca Gran Cerros for a week in August and absolutely regretted not booking 2 weeks. This is a truly special place to unwind and relax. The rooms are gorgeous and well kitted out with everything you need; anything extra we needed Michael & Shaun were always willing to help. We had planned to spend our days travelling around the region using the Finca as a base. But it turned out we found our apartment, and indeed the pool, too hard to leave! The views from our patio were breathtaking and changed constantly depending on the time of day or night. A favourite time of day for us was early morning, laying on the day bed with a coffee watching the sunrise over the mountains and gradually stretch across the valley. Mesmerizing! Breakfast was delicious - different every day. We ate at the Finca for a couple of evenings and would recommend it. Delicious homemade food - beautifully presented. Michael and Shaun were the perfect hosts, always willing to spend time answering our many many questions - both in person and on text. Before I go I have to mention Bert the cat - he visited us daily and I fell in love with his personality We cannot wait to return!

By now if you have searched through the previous reviews of this peaceful retreat, you will have noticed there is a consistent pattern of 5 star reviews! This is exactly what it is. Michael and Shaun are friendly, professional hosts who have mastered the art of discretion, whilst being there when you need them. The accommodation has everything you need, with many additional little touches that you wouldn't expect, like the ice creams in the honesty bar to the cool bag in the kitchen if you want to venture out with a picnic. There are many places to visit in the area, including the spectacular Caminio Del Ray, which needs to be booked well in advance, otherwise you will miss out, like we did! Many thanks guys for creating this wonderful place for us to enjoy! Best wishes Bev & Steve x

Recently returned from a weeks stay here at Finca Gran Cerros where we stayed in the stunning and well appointed two bedroom apartment. Friends we travelled with occupied the other two apartments at this location and we must admit we would have been happy staying in any of them. The included breakfasts , different each day, were all delicious and we availed ourselves of the optional evening meals which were freshly prepared, well presented and, as with breakfast, delicious. This is somewhere to stay if you are looking to get away for a quiet relaxing holiday re-charging your batteries. The grounds of the finca provide several seating areas along with a pool and a small hot tub. The hosts, Shaun and Michael are very friendly and professional making sure that you have everything you require for an enjoyable stay, nothing is to much trouble for them. This is definitely somewhere we will be looking at re-visiting when we can.

My wife, who was celebrating her 60th Birthday and I, along with two other couples, have just had a lovely week at the Finka. Not only the day of her Birthday but every other day we were there, we were looked after by excellent hosts. Shaun and Michael’s pleasant demeanour, attention to detail and professional standards just made everything work! We had food everyday (complimentary breakfast and paid evening meal), every meal was imaginative, flavoursome and of a high standard, the evening meal was very economical and beats anything locally! The pool was perfect and somewhere to cool down during the hot days, that we were fortunate to have. The honesty bar was a great addition and was well stocked. A great plus was the various complimentary creams, shampoo, body wash, pillow spray and room sprays that are made on the premises and laid throughout your room. What a unique and surprising addition, which capped off a perfect stay. All of us would have no hesitation in stay at the Finka again in the future, that is if you are lucky enough to get a booking! Book early, you will love it! We used Allincarhire from Malaga airport, very good service. The drive from the airport is just less than an hour.

We’ve just returned from a one week break staying at Finca Gran Cerros. If you enjoy peace & quiet, stunning views and delicious cuisine, this may be what you are looking for. For any budding star gazers, this location is a must! We stayed in the one bed Casita and were not disappointed. The accommodation is immaculate. It met all our needs and smelt tranquil as Michael & Shaun use all their own brand fragrances which you can also purchase. We were lucky as our friends stayed in the other suites so we had the place exclusive. We can’t thank the guys enough for their hospitality and celebrating two birthdays was a big ask but nothing was too much trouble for Michael & Shaun. We enjoyed watching them with their fur family, two dogs & several cats but if that’s not for you they respect that also. There’s plenty to see & do in the surrounding areas but a hire vehicle is essential. We’d love to return one day as we definitely felt restful on our return and would love to see how their new expanding business develops.
