We stopped here for one night only on the way to the death valley. Linda, was very friendly and hospitable. Linda then recommend a great local place for breakfast the following day. The room was spacious, clean and had all the required amenities. Great Pitstop ahead of full day through the death Valley. Independence was a great choice place with some history attached to it. I would stop again.
Ray’s Den is hands down the best independent motel on 395 between Lone Pine and Tahoe. We’ve been all over 395, and have yet to find a place as perfect (and there are some good ones). Pride of ownership is obvious at every turn. The rooms are spotless, and I’m not being hyperbolic - they are spotless. Mattresses are great. Towels are pure white and fluffy, and I love the common sense hamper under the sink for dirty towels. Linda (the owner) is great and works her tail off to meet her own exacting standards. We love this place and will return again and again.
We have stayed here several times throughout the years. While it is small and probably easier to manage, the owner personally takes care of the rooms so each one is immaculate and you won't find a drop of dirt or dust anyplace. Linda, the owner is a former park ranger who wanted to be closer to her hometown and has certainly made a good impression with the locals. Not many places to eat, but grab a sandwich from the new Port of Subs and bring it back to eat on the chairs outside your room overlooking Linda's flower pot garden.
We stopped after a day of sightseeing in Owens Valley as we traveled from Sacramento to Las Vegas. The room was very clean and beds comfortable. Linda (the owner) is very pleasant and friendly. It is a modest hotel, but then again I am not paying for a swimming pool or workout room that I am not using. Would definitely stay there again if in the area.
I went to Independence to spend several days photographing the area. A friend recommended this motel and I was not disappointed. It is a small quiet location with a very comfortable bed. The room was exceptionally clean and the wifi worked great. I was in room #1 near the office. The owner Linda is very friendly and helpful and even invited me to join others for dinner at a local church that was celebrating 140 years of operation. All and all this was just what I needed. Nothing fancy just a very nice clean place to spend several days exploring the area.
