Recently spent 3 days at this lovely place in the Douro Valley. The owner, Christina, is charming and speaks very good English. We opted to have dinner there each night and were pleased we had done so. Excellent food and interesting company. Everyone sits round the same table and we encountered Australians, Americans, French, Israeli and other English couples during... More

We stayed here for 6 nights and had absolutely wonderful walks through vineyards and forests and down to the River. Christina, our host is an amazing gem. Her know, edge of the area, the history and her incredible walks, based on our abilities, was nothing short of amazing. We also enjoyed great weather and excellent home cooked meals.

We were a party of friends staying to spend 3 days walking. The house is beautiful, Christina and her staff are charming, it is spotlessly clean and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast is wonderful, the dinner home cooking rather than gourmet but very acceptable.

This well preserved manor house is beautiful. We stayed here in order to enjoy the Douro valley and it was perfect base to do just that. The rooms are large and comfortable. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the house and its surroundings. Cristina was so nice and helpful with anything we needed. I recommend having dinner there at... More

We enjoyed our short stay a lot. The house is lovely and the owner was very friendly. She is helping wherever she can. We spent some time next to the pool. We asked for a bottle if wine and it was served next to the pool. Wonderful! We also asked for a kind of snack, like a cheese, and we... More

The "Casa de Vilarinho" - originally, a fifteenth century manor house - preserves an unique atmosphere where landscape and architecture are tied in a quiet harmony. The house is spacious and clean-cut. The decoration and the furniture have a discreet touch of sophistication. In-wards or out-doors, we can find always a perfect place to read, to write, to rest... or... More

Beside the oldest chapel in the village, an unimposing green gate opens into a big yard and this casa, a huge manor house. The first potatoes in all of Portugal were planted on this property in the 16th century. Cristina Van Zeller owns and operates this property and makes many of the jams and cakes which are enjoyed at breakfast.... More

Stayed for 3 nights. Beautiful house with gardens. Room was spacious with very comfortable bed and plenty of pillows. Views to the north over vineyards from bedroom. Breakfast very generous, served in dining room with one huge table, so sitting with other guests. Plenty of fresh coffee and freshly squeezed juice, jams made by hostess, cheese, breads, cake. Dinner Portuguese... More

I loved this hotel. The owner, Christina, told us she set out to make it feel like a home, not a hotel, and she has succeeded completely. The old house and grounds are beautiful, and the rooms and bathrooms are lovely, and spacious. Dinner is eaten at a set time, with the other guests, with a set menu, home-style. The... More

Spent two nights here on a walking tour through the upper Douro valley. Reviews are pretty accurate. The house itself is an antique, but well modernised, beautifully furnished by someone with taste and very comfortable. I presume someone with taste is Cristina, our hostess, who is quite charming and very attentive with perfect English. She has a natural mix of... More
