#2 of 24 hotels in St. Paul's Bay
The local traditional characteristics reflected in the design of this small, but prestigious hotel, located at the waters edge overlooking the old fishing harbour and flanked to one side by an ancient chapel, only complement this quaint and idyllic setting. Yet just a minute walk away are a number of shops, restaurants, bars and other tourist activities all along the promenade. An early riser can watch the colourful fishing boats unload their catch from the comfort of one’s room. The hotel has breathtaking views of St. Paul’s Islands where St. Paul was shipwrecked. All rooms have a bathroom en suite, balcony, air-conditioning, direct dialing facilities, satellite Television, mini bar, hair dryer and room safety deposits. The Gillieru Harbour Hotel has ample public areas to guarantee the excellent and personalized service synonymous with the Cremona family which has run it’s catering services for over four generations. Early booking is recommended.

Visited 5th to 19th September 2021. Very good clean room with view of harbour and good location generally. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good Wi-Fi connection and about 20 minute pleasant walk along promenade to main square where there a good selection of restaurants. If you like Chinese the Little Wok was excellent. My only complaint was the fridge did not keep the contents very cold although it was adequate to store my insulin in. The hotel is worthy of its 4star rating and we would return.

In our opinion The Gillieru Hotel is the best hotel on Malta. We have waited nearly two years to return to this gem of a hotel and believe us that's what it is. We have been many times and would not stay anywhere else, we have tried many others. As soon as you walk in you receive a warm welcome from the staff on reception. We have mentioned Mary Rose many times in our reviews and it was a great pleasure to see her there once again. Mary Rose and all the other lovely ladies on reception greet you with a smile and are most helpful at all times, even with the the most awkward of customers! All the staff are warm, friendly and helpful at all times. The back office girls Sanja and Joanne are brilliant and extremely helpful if you have queries regarding your bookings. The rooms are great I know some say it's a little tired but you'd be a little tired if you were as old as the Gillieru! We have seen in the last few years of our visits that the hotel is being refurbished a step at a time and to a very high standard it won't be long before they're adding another star!!!! The food is very good. The breakfast is what you would expect it to be a mixture of continental and English. The toaster is a little slow but that's the same the world over and is I know a health and safety issue so that guests are not injured. I guess we've all seen the clever diners sticking implements in to hurry the bread through if it's got stuck!!! The evening meals are anything from a la Carte to friendly pizza and pasta and will suit most pockets. The restaurant are no different to the rest of the staff, warm, friendly and very helpful. The situation of the hotel could not be better located and the views are incredible. We would definitely recommend a sea view its well worth the extra cost. Well what more can we say you to you the reader. We would say definitely take a holiday at the Gillieru. We know there are one or two poor reviews but these are far and few between. Go with an open mind and always, always treat people how you would wish to be treated. We find that it comes back to you tenfold!! We are now looking forward to a second Xmas holiday at the Gillieru and can't wait to go back.

We had a sea view room on the 4th floor the view from our balcony was stunning. The room itself was very nice and clean and tidy. The only criticism of our room was the fridge wasn’t particularly the best. It was ok for water but if you put milk in it the milk would go off within two days. Our package we purchased from our travel company was bed and breakfast which in my view was perfect because we didn’t feel tied down to the hotel for evening meals. The breakfast from the restaurant was a good selection but the cooked food needed to be hotter as buy the time you to your table to eat it the food was cold. We found it one morning that when we went for breakfast that the dining hall was full and some people had reserved several of the tables so they could sit on the waters edge for their breakfast. which at a busy time of the day I don’t think it was very fair. It should be on a first come first serve basis. A waiter did take a reservation sign off one of the tables because the guests hadn’t arrived but it soon did cause a problem when they did arrive. Other than that one problem our stay at the hotel was very relaxing and enjoyable. We went in the swimming pool a few times and it’s not a massive pool but it’s a decent size and also quiet deep. The one thing I did like about the was it’s a salt water pool so no nasty chlorine stinging your eyes. I’m looking forward to returning to Malta within the next year or so and I will be returning to the gillieru harbour hotel

The hotel itself is beautiful. The Seaview rooms fantastic. The balcony doors need updating. Reception area beautiful. Down side had to chase towels 3 times with the cleaning staff and twice they ran out of toilet roll. Neither of these things should happen in a four star hotel. The pool area fantastic views but far to much salt in the water you could not swim. A couple of days areas were cordoned off for private reservations. This can happen as the pool is ran by another company. The pool bar was not always manned therefore difficult to get a drink. The restaurant and bar. The staff the majority of times work the restaurant but forget about the customers in the bar. Majority of the time you waited 20 to 25 minutes to place a drinks order then it took another 10 to 15 minutes to get order and this was not always right. None of the restaurant/bar staff appeared to have been trained in the hospitality industry. They were to laid back and had an attitude. Breakfast was standard. Meats Cheeses fruit yogurt and then the hot food area which was never hot always cold. Many people complained but nothing was done about it On the plus side the a la cart menu fantastic

Dear Denise b , Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to take some of your precious time review your stay in our hotel. We appreciate all feedback as this helps us improve all our services. I do apologies if the pool was far too salty to swim in.. We pump fresh Sea Water directly from the sea and is circulated tghroughout to make sure the freshest of water is being used. Apart from this we do add other pool certified chemicals to make sure that the water is safe to swim in. the level of chemicals is tested daily and apart from this, a non affiliated company also test the water to make sure that it is safe to swmi in. Regarding the Restaurant and Pool Staff, we feel very sorry to hear such comments and staff training is done reguraly on a monthly basis and everyone employed is more than qualified to do their job, we have serving staff which have been working for this company for over 20 years.. Again kindly accept my sincere apologies if your stay was not to our usual standard.. I do invite you to return once again this time to experience our true Gillieru hospitality. Kindest Regards Matthew Spiteri
