Beautiful location in the toscana hills. We appreciated the concept of having a swimming pool for each house and thereby avoiding the pool being too crowded. We also had a positive experience with the hotel restaurant, due to the staff being open and sympathetic. However, the receptionnists were rather cold and our arrival was rather disappointing, having to pay 30€ to get our already cleaned appartement early. The appartement itself had an appropriate size, but seemed outlived and presented problems with the air conditionning and the water outflow. In addition, the isolation was very poor and it was impossible not to hear the neighbours.

Lets start with the positives... The setting is beautiful, Tuscany at its best. Marvellous views, natural settings and rustic countryside. However, the apartment we were in was very old, hardly clean and badly decorated. From the scratches on the kitchen furniture to the old mattresses, the whole place needed a refurbishment. Non-existent wi-fi but we didn't care too much as we were on holiday. The sofa bed were my daughters slept was VERY uncomfortable. The restaurant was very slow, clearly overwhelmed, during both meals we had (one of which was a fixed menu Easter lunch). Lastly, they tried to charge us twice for a SPA service claiming to my husband that I didn't pay a manicure - which I did (can you just check the receipt you just printed before trying to charge us again)? Overall, I felt the place was a missed opportunity for a lovely stay which ended up being a bit ruined by a very old apartment, a badly organised restaurant and mediocre customer service.

We have been robbed at this facility. Our lock has been forced and during the night intruders invaded our appartment and robbes us from precious jewellery and a large sum of money. Or little girl was sleeping with us in the bedroom while the burglars were there. We have locked our appartment with both locks. Security camera did not work, emergency numbers werent picked up. Castellare di Tonda claim they are not liable. Even though they have said to me that there are a lot of burglaries at their facility. The do not do anything about it. I would strongly advise not to go here. Keep your family and posessions safe!

Castellare di Tondo consists of a number of farmhouses converted into apartments in the Tuscan countryside near Montaione. We stayed in an apartment Superior, which had a bedroom, bathroom and living room with kitchenette. It was perfect for the two of us. Outside was a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside, terrace with table and chairs, garden and a swimming pool which would have been shared with the other residents, but as it was end of season after the first night we were the only ones at that location. There was plenty of onsite parking. Be warned that this is a remote location and the farmhouses are spread out and a long way from the main reception and restaurant area, so a car is a must! There is a spa also and a horse riding centre, but we didn't use these. To be honest if a resort has a spa I think they should at least let residents who are staying there use it for free at least once, and we were enjoying the sunshine, the pool and touring around. The centre also had a mini-supermarket with very basic supplies, open a few hours a day, and a cafe/bar. We visited Pisa, Lucca, Florence and some of the smaller towns and had a great time, but you could just as easily relax at the pool and house if you preferred. We had the best of both worlds - about an hour's drive from cities such as Pisa, Sienna and Florence, but a lovely quiet countryside cottage to relax in. We had a B&B package, the breakfast was at the main restaurant and was a substantial buffet. We also ate dinner at the restaurant a few times (it's best to book in advance) and found the menu to be excellent and good value. There was a 3 course buffet on our first evening which was superb, but mostly it was a la carte. The desserts were amazing ranging from tiramisu to profiteroles to chocolate cheesecake! As a bonus, as vegetarians there was plenty of choice for us on the menu. The reception staff were very helpful. The centre still grows olives and grapes and produces its own wine, which was delicious. So that's the upside - so the downside is this: the TV had no satellite channels, so Italian only. The WiFi was predictably poor (at all the houses, as we heard other guests complaining at reception) and I was unable to get mobile signal. However I guess this could be viewed as a plus and you can relax without the distractions of modern life! Also the mosquitos were vicious - we both got bitten and invested in a mossie repellent device. Still ended up looking like I had chicken pox! Improvements they could make: a starter pack at the house would have been nice, there was only a bottle of water in the fridge. We didn't want to cook a full meal (although there was an oven and dishes etc), but we did have drinks and snacks, so some washing up liquid and a sponge and a couple of dishwasher tablets would have been useful along with some tea and coffee for new arrivals. We booked a package through Travel Republic, We may have booked flights and the accommodation cheaper separately, but we went for the convenience and it was all very painless booking that way.

Stayed a week in May. Riding and horses are so amazing as are the food, wine and hospitality. Loved riding through the vineyards and olive groves - thanks to Franco, Marco and Samantha for making it such an amazing experience. Pool great, lovely spa man who gives a great massage and all the staff. Only thing marring our visit were two noisy weddings - horse riders who need rest to stay safe in the saddle do not mix with parties that go on until the small hours. Suggest staying away from the main complex and hiring a car but that does add to the cost and is a bit inconvenient.

Just spent a week a here, having never been to the area previously. I bet you are wondering about my heading? well you want to visit a restaurant in the area and you are told it is 3 miles away. And it is as the crow flies. However with all the twists and turns it turns out to be 8 miles away. But don't let that put you off. This place is great. The views spectacular. The accommodation is fine everything you need if you want to spend an evening in (but why would you) I have never sen so many vines the landscape is full. The location of the resort is a tad out of the way but not so far that you cannot do what you need. There are some excellent restaurants nearby and Pisa and Florence are only a 40 minute drive. We met the Italian New Yorker who runs the place. He was so very helpful and accommodating. Considering we went just out of season we had a really good time. In season there is a bar, a place to eat, sports and a pool. Well worth a visit

Nice spacious rustic accommodation. We were half board but if you needed to self cater all facilities were there. Spectacular scenery and lovely and quiet. Gentle walks took us to several different view points looking at mountains and vineyards. We went horse riding every day and had a great time with the guides taking good care of us. Lovely horses, not just boring plods. Excellent foods, whether buffet or menu and the house wine was a lovely 10 year old from their own vineyard. Coffee and limencello topped the meal off nicely. All the staff were lovely and friendly. Make sure to have a drink from Andreas bar, you can also buy or your essentials there. We made use of the Spa one afternoon, by pre-booking it is clearly never allowed to become crowded. We had a very relaxing afternoon watching the birds of prey from the hot tub. Brilliant location for visiting other towns and cities in the region.

Peaceful Haven in wine yards of Tuscany. The resort is spread over acres or miles of scenic beauty with magnificent views. Just an hour journey from Pisa. Were there to attend a wedding and the hotel staff were at their best with hospitality. Would like to go again and explore more !!

We spent seven nights in Castellare di Tonda. The first thing that is difficult to appreciate is the vastness of the site. Our apartment was located in the Pietrafitta complex, which was about 1.5 km from the reception area and restaurant. Originally we had intended having breakfast each morning in the restaurant but because of the distance (as well as the cost (15 Euro per adult)) and the timing (breakfast finishes at 10 am), we found it more relaxing to begin the day in our apartment. We really enjoyed Pietrafitta - effectively a collection of old farm buildings, which had been converted into six apartments. It had a good-sized pool that was rarely busy and spectacular views over the lake and Tuscan hills. There was a real feeling of tranquility and escape from it all. The apartment had two bedrooms (one large with its own bathroom), a balcony, and a well-equipped kitchen. It was very clean, perfectly maintained, and furnished in an attractive rustic style. The air-conditioning worked a treat. The entrance to the apartment was very private (unseen by any of our neighbours) and there was an area in front where it was possible to sit out or dine. While the resort is located in centre of Tuscany, and an excellent point from which to explore the region, we found it so unwinding to spend as much time as possible in our apartment that we only ventured to nearby towns like Montaione (excellent PAM supermarket and some restaurants), San Vivaldo (strongly recommend the San Vivaldo Trattoria for sunday lunch or weekday dinner), San Miniato and San Gimignano (disappointing because of the tourist numbers). Castellare di Tonda is an excellent, safe place for children. Our nine-year-old daughter enjoyed the mini-club despite the fact that she was the only English speaker. But above all else, she adored the stables. She had five one-hour riding lessons with the wonderful Kerstin and this was the highlight of her trip. Beautiful horses and great equestrian facilities. Our only regret is that we did not spend longer and are already making plans for next year. This is a very well run establishment with courteous staff. Prior to our holiday we had a lot of communication with Jess, which was very helpful.

My husband and I rented a car and drove a beautiful journey from Florence for an hour to reach Castellare di Tonda. We were shocked at the beauty of this place, and we were greeted with smiles and a warm friendly welcome and shown to our room which overlooked the stunning Tuscan countryside. We could see the most amazing sunsets from our balcony, they were just perfect! This is honestly the best place to come and de-stress. There are so many activities available, we tried horseback riding and it was such an enjoyable experience! We will definitely return, and would love to try the spa next time which had amazing views! Thanks for everything to all the staff at Castellare di Tonda!!
