We have been robbed at this facility. Our lock has been forced and during the night intruders invaded our appartment and robbes us from precious jewellery and a large sum of money. Or little girl was sleeping with us in the bedroom while the burglars were there. We have locked our appartment with both locks. Security camera did not work, emergency numbers werent picked up. Castellare di Tonda claim they are not liable. Even though they have said to me that there are a lot of burglaries at their facility. The do not do anything about it. I would strongly advise not to go here. Keep your family and posessions safe!
Castellare di Tondo consists of a number of farmhouses converted into apartments in the Tuscan countryside near Montaione. We stayed in an apartment Superior, which had a bedroom, bathroom and living room with kitchenette. It was perfect for the two of us. Outside was a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside, terrace with table and chairs, garden and a swimming pool which would have been shared with the other residents, but as it was end of season after the first night we were the only ones at that location. There was plenty of onsite parking. Be warned that this is a remote location and the farmhouses are spread out and a long way from the main reception and restaurant area, so a car is a must! There is a spa also and a horse riding centre, but we didn't use these. To be honest if a resort has a spa I think they should at least let residents who are staying there use it for free at least once, and we were enjoying the sunshine, the pool and touring around. The centre also had a mini-supermarket with very basic supplies, open a few hours a day, and a cafe/bar. We visited Pisa, Lucca, Florence and some of the smaller towns and had a great time, but you could just as easily relax at the pool and house if you preferred. We had the best of both worlds - about an hour's drive from cities such as Pisa, Sienna and Florence, but a lovely quiet countryside cottage to relax in. We had a B&B package, the breakfast was at the main restaurant and was a substantial buffet. We also ate dinner at the restaurant a few times (it's best to book in advance) and found the menu to be excellent and good value. There was a 3 course buffet on our first evening which was superb, but mostly it was a la carte. The desserts were amazing ranging from tiramisu to profiteroles to chocolate cheesecake! As a bonus, as vegetarians there was plenty of choice for us on the menu. The reception staff were very helpful. The centre still grows olives and grapes and produces its own wine, which was delicious. So that's the upside - so the downside is this: the TV had no satellite channels, so Italian only. The WiFi was predictably poor (at all the houses, as we heard other guests complaining at reception) and I was unable to get mobile signal. However I guess this could be viewed as a plus and you can relax without the distractions of modern life! Also the mosquitos were vicious - we both got bitten and invested in a mossie repellent device. Still ended up looking like I had chicken pox! Improvements they could make: a starter pack at the house would have been nice, there was only a bottle of water in the fridge. We didn't want to cook a full meal (although there was an oven and dishes etc), but we did have drinks and snacks, so some washing up liquid and a sponge and a couple of dishwasher tablets would have been useful along with some tea and coffee for new arrivals. We booked a package through Travel Republic, We may have booked flights and the accommodation cheaper separately, but we went for the convenience and it was all very painless booking that way.…
Stayed a week in May. Riding and horses are so amazing as are the food, wine and hospitality. Loved riding through the vineyards and olive groves - thanks to Franco, Marco and Samantha for making it such an amazing experience. Pool great, lovely spa man who gives a great massage and all the staff. Only thing marring our visit were two noisy weddings - horse riders who need rest to stay safe in the saddle do not mix with parties that go on until the small hours. Suggest staying away from the main complex and hiring a car but that does add to the cost and is a bit inconvenient.
Just spent a week a here, having never been to the area previously. I bet you are wondering about my heading? well you want to visit a restaurant in the area and you are told it is 3 miles away. And it is as the crow flies. However with all the twists and turns it turns out to be 8 miles away. But don't let that put you off. This place is great. The views spectacular. The accommodation is fine everything you need if you want to spend an evening in (but why would you) I have never sen so many vines the landscape is full. The location of the resort is a tad out of the way but not so far that you cannot do what you need. There are some excellent restaurants nearby and Pisa and Florence are only a 40 minute drive. We met the Italian New Yorker who runs the place. He was so very helpful and accommodating. Considering we went just out of season we had a really good time. In season there is a bar, a place to eat, sports and a pool. Well worth a visit…
Nice spacious rustic accommodation. We were half board but if you needed to self cater all facilities were there. Spectacular scenery and lovely and quiet. Gentle walks took us to several different view points looking at mountains and vineyards. We went horse riding every day and had a great time with the guides taking good care of us. Lovely horses, not just boring plods. Excellent foods, whether buffet or menu and the house wine was a lovely 10 year old from their own vineyard. Coffee and limencello topped the meal off nicely. All the staff were lovely and friendly. Make sure to have a drink from Andreas bar, you can also buy or your essentials there. We made use of the Spa one afternoon, by pre-booking it is clearly never allowed to become crowded. We had a very relaxing afternoon watching the birds of prey from the hot tub. Brilliant location for visiting other towns and cities in the region.…
