This 1922 guesthouse is in the heart of Richmond's Museum and Fan Districts, the city's most vibrant and historic neighborhoods. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is directly across the street. We're three blocks from Carytown, a unique shopping district featuring eclectic shops, restaurants of every description, the historic Byrd Theatre, neighborhood pubs and live music venues. Seven minutes to downtown. Plush comfort, gourmet breakfasts and tickets to special exhibitions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
The perfect B&B to enrich a visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts across the street. Fine welcome from Melinda on check in and delicious breakfast (berries and granola, omelette) prepared by Michelle. Comfortable queen bed in John Lane Suite. Best of all, on Thursday evening I had time to enjoy the VMFA's sculpture garden, featured exhibitions (Benjamin Wigfall and Whitfield Lovell) and read on the B&B porch, then returned to the museum Friday to explore further and meet friends for lunch. I also appreciated the solo traveler discount!

I can see why this B&B has 5 star reviews! We were lucky enough to rent the carriage house and it was the perfect size and contained all the amenities necessary to sleep soundly and wake up to a cup of coffee before heading to the main house for the delicious breakfast lovingly prepared by the hostess Melinda. Located in the perfect spot in Richmond. we’re so pleased that we found this jewel and will return if we’re ever in the area again. I highly recommend this B&B

So nice to find a great Richmond home away from home for our girlfriend 2 night stay. Melinda was warm and welcoming. The library had a nice variety of books to read and the front porch was a breezy comfy place to enjoy some wine and snacks. I really loved walking to the museum of art for Wednesday night live music and eating at Amuse restaurant upstairs. And yes, I would return to this great B&B in the future. Melinda offers a great breakfast spread.

From the moment we walked in the front door we knew the weekend ahead of us was going to be the BEST! This spacious, beautiful home was the perfect place for our family weekend get away. The check in was easy with the key in a lock box on the porch. (Parking was at the back of the home and easy to find.) The living room was comfortable and cozy with a puzzle that "invited" us to finish it that evening! The dining area gave us just enough of a hint to know that our breakfast each morning would be amazing (and it was!). There was fruit on the table to snack on and water available (with ice in the room). The enchanting stairway leads to the four rooms, including two full baths and one half bath (we rented every room in the house). The excitement we all had as we were looking at each others' rooms added to the check in! Each room was very clean, inviting and comfortable. The bedroom in Judge Rhea's Suite was perfect with the windows all around! We woke up each morning to the smell of breakfast! Eggs however we wanted them, local bacon, banana pancakes, waffles. pastries and several other breakfast choices, along with a variety of teas, coffee and juices. The time our family spent together at breakfast was one of the best parts of the weekend! Melinda is an amazing host and we all enjoyed "hanging out" with her. The home is very conveniently located across from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and walking distance from many stores, restaurants and other inviting locations. We can honestly say that this was one the best place we have ever stayed and we are already recommending it to everyone who will listen! Thank you for your hospitality and for everything you did for our family while we were visting! …

Great location across from multiple museums. The weather was great and we sat on the porch and walked to nearby restaurants and shops. We were given many options for breakfast and the food was excellent. Off-street parking and a comfortable lounge area were a bonus.

What a fabulous stay! The B&B is in an incredibly optimal location - directly next to the VMFA and walking distance to Kerry street. The suite we stayed in was gorgeous and was so comfortable. The bathroom was huge and had a steam shower and clawfoot tub! While we didn't have breakfast, they have a great made-to-order menu.

I loved staying at the Museum B&B! I stayed in the carriage house. It’s an adorable room with a bathroom and cute front porch. Perfect if you’re traveling solo or with a partner. I love historic houses so the carriage house was perfect and very charming. I immediately took a bath in the clawfoot tub. The hostess was very kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place.

We enjoyed staying at the Museum Disctrict BB immensely! The carriage house and surrounding outdoor area is charming and comfortable. Breakfast and coffee service was exceptionally delicious. The main house offered several lovely seating areas to relax in as well. The proximity to VMFA made it easy to breeze in and out several times during our stay. Visting with local friends and enjoying access to seveal walkable areas of interest was a benefit. The carriage house was nicely outfitted so that two people could comfotably use it as a home base for a long weekend. I particularly enjoyed the porch. One morning two bunnies munched clover in the yard while i had my coffee. Choosing to opt into the picnic basket created a really nice memory for us.

While the location is excellent and the main house is nice. Neither the carriage house nor our experience was. While we knew the b&b host was on vacation. She stated that someone would be there to greet us. We arrived at 530 and knocked on the door. Noone answered so we called the main number. Phone was answered by someone with a somewhat annoyed voice who told us to use the lock box. Since I didn't have the lock box code, she looked it up (again someone annoyed) The key opened the main house not the carriage house. After another annoyed tone we finally got the code and entered the carriage house. Looked ok from outside, inside however was a small room with a dirty, stained carpet, paint bubbled from ceiling, and quite a few electrical outlets connected to knob and tube wiring (see photos). For you who are unfamiliar with this type of wiring, it can be dangerous, possibly present a fire hazard. Consequently we left and explained why in an email the next day. Managers reply stated we should have let her know sooner and she could have corrected the problem. Not sure how quickly she could have cleaned rug, corrected bubbled ceiling and cracked wall, and replaced wiring! Needless to say: No refund, wine and cheese, or breakfast the next morning.…

We regret that you did not have a pleasant experience, The Carriage is clean and the electrical outlets are up to code. You were informed that wine and cheese would not happen and given coupons to obtain wine from a venue just across the street, breakfast was served but you choose not to partake. Again we do regret that you felt unsafe.

This is my fifth stay in Richmond. I’ve previously stayed at the Omni, Marriott, Berkeley and the Crowne Plaza. The Museum District B&B is superior to all the others. Its in a perfect location, in a tree lined residential section of Richmond, across the street from the VMFA and 5 minutes from Cary Street. The unit was 4 rooms, bedroom with large, king size bed, large living room, small but perfect size office and a huge bathroom with a walk in shower that could easily fit two. This is the equivalent to a multi room suite at any of the hotels in Richmond. The parking was behind the house, gated and I could see my vehicle from the bedroom window. This is much better than a garage or parking on the street. Melinda, the host, was extremely helpful. She responded timely to my multiple, pre arrival queries and provided us with several excellent restaurant recommendations. There were multiple options for breakfast and the main course was made to order and excellent, as one would expect from a Johnson & Wales Alumni! When I return to Richmond this will be my #1 lodging choice. I highly recommend.…
