A return visit to Restaurant which is part of Hotel Castello in Castelsardo was disasterous. Feels as if place is on verge of closing and food and prises reflects this. No working tap or loo paper was a bad omen and then the absence of anything but house rose - which was like petrol - compounded matters. However the food really put the hat on it! Cozze starter produced oversized under cooked mussels and then a penne with zucchini and gamberini , while in a nice sauce with black olives - the gamberini were of poor quality and really should only b used to make a sauce and not advertised as if a feature of the dish ! Despite fab views of the mouth of the port on a sunny day at 42 euro it left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Won't b going back until new owners return this to the sort of good value stop it was in years gone by. More

The hotel could well have been rather splendid in its former years but is now in a state of terminal decline. The family who run it are pleasant folk but clearly don't see any point in investing in the business and in fact it would be a monumental task to refurbish it from its present state.
Yes, the front desk is a great opportunity for passport thieves!
Our room was clean and quite comfortable although the mattresses were cheap and cheerful should we say. We wouldn't have wanted to stay for longer than one night and didn't see any other guests so I guess they're not booked solid.
Castelsardo has an interesting old town round the castle but apart from that is a bit down at heel and I suspect that business isn't too good these days. It's rather sad.
