My husband and I really like nice hotels and don’t mind paying, but I didn’t really want to pay $5-600/night for a generic, high traffic hotel in Boston for our weekend trip with the kids. We decided to give the Kendall Hotel a try based on the great reviews, and it definitely delivered. We did have one snafu which I will mention first. The bad: When we checked in at 11 pm, the hotel didn’t have the double queen room that we had booked directly with them over the phone. It was a little frustrating while they figured out what to do, so if I made another reservation here, I would call the day before and just double check. They put us in a king suite with a king bed and pullout sofa for our kids for the first night, but we didn’t want our kids (10 and 16) to have to share a pullout for the whole weekend, so the hotel made sure to move our stuff to a double queen the next day. So overall, it was a little bit of a frustrating way to start off our trip, but they really went above and beyond in making it right for us. The good: 1. This is a lovely hotel that I think looks nicer in person than in photos. The hotel itself doesn’t have any amenities, but we didn’t come to Boston for a pool or spa. The decor is so much nicer than a bland mid priced chain hotel. It feels more like you’re staying in someone’s guest room rather than a hotel. We loved that the rooms have ceiling fans! The beds and pillows are super comfortable, and everything just feels fresh and clean - not worn out. It’s a little odd that you hardly ever see any staff around - no one is ever at the desk, but everything seems to run smoothly. There isn’t a full staff of people visible if you like that sort of thing. No concierge or bellhops or any of that. You’re on your own, but that was fine by us. 2. The housekeepers do such a wonderful job - this is the first time I’ve stayed in a hotel since before Covid where my room has been cleaned every day without asking for that. Excellent work by these housekeepers. 3. The breakfast was excellent. It was such a time and money saved not to have to get breakfast out every morning. And the quality of the breakfast was good. My kids said, “this is the best hotel breakfast we’ve had.” They served hard boiled and scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles, breads, assorted pastries/muffins, muesli, and fresh fruit. 4. The location. Sure, it’s not in the middle of all of the downtown Boston activities, but it couldn’t have been easier to get on the T and go wherever we needed to go. It was super quiet and safe, and we didn’t mind being a little away from the action. Just walk outside the hotel and hop on the red line, and you can be anywhere in a few minutes. We are pretty high maintenance about our hotels (as far as cleanliness, comfort, and overall feel), and we would happily stay here again.…
Hotel was nicely decorated. Staff was helpful and welcoming. Free snacks and water bottles were provided in our room, which was very comfortable. Good selection of breakfast items in the morning. Plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as walking distance to Harvard, MIT, and the Science Center.
My husband, two kids and I stayed two nights at the Kendall hotel. We had a great experience and will absolutely stay again next time we visit the area. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome by the friendly staff and the creatively designed atmosphere. The lobby has a home-like feel with comfortable couches and chairs thoughtfully placed for comfort and socializing. The entire hotel from the lobby to the dining area, rooms and even the elevator were very clean. We had a suite which was perfect for a family. The full kitchen allowed us to store our drinks and leftovers in the fridge, a stovetop for cooking if you choose and even a dishwasher! I was truly impressed with this convenience. The large bathroom featured a jacuzzi tub and huge shower stall. I can't emphasize enough the comfort of the king size bed! The mattress and pillows were high quality, super soft and the beautiful bedding pulled the whole experience together. My children slept on the pullout couch that turned into a bed and said that was very comfortable as well. The breakfast was delicious! Tons of choices that pleased the pickiest eaters in our family. Lastly, the subway is right outside their door. This allowed us to easily travel to all our destinations, including Fenway Park and the seaport. Our entire family highly recommends the Kendall Hotel.…
Loved this hotel. What a gem in Boston! Parking was convenient with easy in and out access. It’s right by the T as well if you’d like to skip driving. Breakfast was delish! The room was so cute with comfy robes and the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on in a hotel since I can’t remember when. I love the adorable decor and well furnished room. Did I mention they have Dison hairdryers with a diffuser? Who does that? They even provided snack and water. Such a nice surprise. I can’t say enough about our stay!
We greatly enjoyed our stay! The staff was very nice and accommodating. The room was great-very clean with a comfortable bed. And the breakfast was fantastic! My mother in law actually switched her hotel to stay at the Kendall Hotel because we liked it so much. We would definitely come here again.
I made a reservation via Expedia exactly four months prior at the Kendall for four nights. Immediately after my reservation is confirmed (signified by the email saying "your reservation is confirmed" in the subject line) I receive another email from the Kendall regarding their COVID policies. Perfect. They know I'm coming. Today I receive a notice that my credit card is charged for the full amount of my stay by the Kendall. Two hours after that notice I receive a message from the Kendall via Expedia that there was a "disconnect" between their systems and Expedia and that my reservation was never confirmed, and there were (of course) no rooms left. There was no mention of a refund. Of course I call them immediately. No answer, but the automated message tells me to send a text. So I send a text. No reply for almost an hour, so I call back and finally get someone who says that yes...my reservation is cancelled and it's Expedia's fault. I call Expedia, and after they contact the Kendall, they get the Kendall to admit that they had dropped the ball and had them initiate a refund (which I still haven't seen). I call the Kendall back and nobody there can tell me what is going on. I could never get a straight answer. Of course, that leaves me with 36 hours to find a hotel room for 4 nights in Boston in June. Good luck with that without taking out a second mortgage. I ended up spending three hours finding another hotel room for almost double the price of what the Kendall advertised originally. So the bottom line here is Kendall is either engaged in bait-and-switch tactics, where they find that they can charge more for some rooms and cancel existing reservations to cash in, or they're negligent, or their staff is so poorly trained that your vacation can be vaporized in a blink of an eye with no explanation. There is no great answer here. Either way, it's no way to run a business. Do YOU want to risk vacation time with your family to these people? Don't do what I did. Book somewhere else, save yourself the aggravation.…
As soon as you enter that main entrance door from the Main Street in the middle of Cambridge, you will feel at home. The Main Lobby with inviting atmosphere, perfectly chosen and placed furniture will give you that sense. More over the staff are very friendly and offering for help with high quality level of service. The room is also good size and is cleaned. Comfortable and at home feeling Furnitures chosen that welcomes you to relax.
We stayed here for my husband to run in the marathon. Great friendly hotel. Really close to the red line station. Lovely comfortable clean rooms. Great facilities in the room including coffee machine, microwave and fridge and supplies were topped up daily. They even had a dyson hairdryer in the bathroom !. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of it. They even provided early breakfast for the marathon runners who needed to leave the hotel very early which was really appreciated. Pity the restaurant was still closed after covid restrictions but hopefully this will be open next year as we will definitely be returning here for our next trip. Hotel was uniquely decorated with great little touches everywhere.
Staying here was a great time. We were very close to mit and the train station where we were able to go to many places. The service was perfect and the breakfast was great. The room was big and comfy. Everyone working here was kind and very helpful. Especially, I want to give 5 stars to manager, Brenda. She was awesome! I would recommend and I will be coming back next time I visit Boston.
The Kendall is a truly gracious place, right out of time. Customer service reigns and when you step inside, you can actually feel the pace slowing ever so slightly. Every one of their staff, including the housekeeping and restaurant, all strive to identify and aim to meet your needs. That more human pace allows for fireside chats, brunch with family and friends, and drink conversation with guests: there’s a certainty you’ll make new pick-up friends. Topics include music, the arts, fly fishing, family, travel, MIT innovations, international affairs, the weather, local happenings, politics, tech news and space flight. It’s both friendly and stimulating, and there’s something for everyone - such a comfort to those of us who travel alone. The lobby is gorgeous with high ceilings, stuffed chairs, and firehouse memorabilia - a testament to the building’s original purpose and popular vibe. The rooms have beds and bedding in which to melt after a long day of sights sounds and savors. The cleanliness is deliberate and pristine. The breakfast buffet is available every day from 7-10, which includes the best bacon on the planet, muesli, fruit, Belgian waffles and egg&cheese tortillas. The coffee bar includes everything you want for a tailored cuppa Joe: premium roast, real half&half, sweetening options, and a wide variety of teas. I hesitate to write this, because I want to always find a room available! But the Kendall Hotel deserves every word I’ve written. Maybe I’ll see you there?!…
