If you like big hotel experiences then it isn't for you but it provides a very peaceful, comfortable location to visit Boston and especially the Harvard area. Our family of 4 had one of the family rooms and felt very comfortable. Yes the bunks aren't huge but for an average size person are very comfortable. The place is spotless and... More

This place was expensive and very low service. Room was on the fourth floor and long and skinny...we felt like we had been shoved in an attic closet. Bathrooms no better than a gas station... Actually worse because they were so tiny. Breakfast was dull: rubber eggs and a few muffins. And we had to request a plate. Front desk... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I understand our guest house is not for everyone. We try to accurately describe our accommodations to all, so no one will be disappointed, but we do not always succeed. We hope you otherwise enjoyed your time in Cambridge. More

A sympathetic place, clean, calm, relaxed. We had ordered a room for 3 adults. The room we got was small with a queen size and a bulk bed for two (one above the other). The queen was fine, the bunk however to narrow and there was not really enough head clearance for adults. Fortunately my daughters are slim an short...... More

Irving House feels more like an old home than a B&B. Even if it does have an old hotel hallways and 44 rooms, it doesn´t quite seem that way. I was visiting Harvard with my daughter and Irving House was very comfortable and convenient for that. It DOES have the same 2 problems that most B&B`s have 1) there´s an... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us! I hear your concerns and on #1, we have taken steps to remedy the noise transmission from the door by providing 'snakes' to put along the bottom of the door. This blocks light as well, which some guests have appreciated. These 'snakes' are hanging on the doors, or... More

Lodgings in Cambridge are always ridiculously expensive, and Irving House is no exception. However, I do think that you get a little more for your money than at the local competition. The location is excellent, just a few blocks away from Harvard Yard in a residential neighborhood. Our room (#107) was comfortable, spacious, and had a newly renovated bathroom. Breakfast... More

Thank you for your kind and specific review! You are right, those limitations on our accommodations do pose problems for some guests, and they are so far not fixable. We are always looking into ways to improve our breakfast, and will see how we can add to our hot items array, which has been growing in response to guests' requests.... More

If you are looking for a convenient bed and a breakfast in the Cambridge area this is the place to try. I wish I had discovered it a year ago. I visit my daughter in Cambridge and have payed the high price at the local major chain hotels. There is no fuss to this place, but quaint atmosphere, snacks available... More

The Irving House is set up similar to a hostel. The room I selected did not have a private bathroom; but there were 2 shared bathrooms on each floor - 1 full bathroom with bathtub and shower and 1 with sink and toilet. Not too bad as whenever I wanted to use the bathroom it was usually available. My single... More

Thank you for your thorough and thoughtful review of your stay with us! I think you have provided a very accurate picture of our guesthouse. After reading several scathing reviews on Irving House at Harvard, I was beginning to feel buyer's remorse..I booked a one night stay prior to a week-long trip to Provincetown as a stopover after flying in from the West Coast. I thought to myself, "Well, it's only for one night..." However, I can now say I am confident that Irving House... More

Thank you for staying with us in spite of hearing the voices of unhappy travelers! We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay. There are times when the room you occupied does have a rate of under $150. We always aim to have our rates be among the very lowest in the Harvard Square area, and include important amenities that... The breakfast was excellent with lots of fresh options to choose from. We traveled with grandma and rented a room with a double bed and a "bunk bed". We got a third floor room. There is no elevator. The stairs are of course as old as the house so it was quite a workout for grandma to make it to... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am very sorry you did not find all to your liking. As the title all says, this place is the worst place I have stayed so far. The price per night was 280 dollars which is not that bad in Cambridge and Boston area. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am very sorry to see how you feel about it. Yes, many of our rooms are small, built that way in the 1920s for Harvard students. While we have done significant renovations and eliminated some of them (to create more private baths), about half of the rooms in the... More
